“Do you think it’s weird to be at someone else’s wedding on our anniversary?”

Ryan is in the middle of pulling off what he thinks is an A+ running man when Sara asks that question, and he keeps it going as he considers his answers. Does he think it’s weird that they’re celebrating someone else’s love story when they should celebrate their own? Eh, maybe. But he’s choosing to think at it another way.

“You could think of it that way.” He nods as he moves to shuffle closer to her. “Or you could think of it as giving us an excuse to celebrate?”

Sara raises an eyebrow but lets him take her hand, pulling her into a spin as they hang out on the dance floor. It’s her niece’s wedding, and Ryan knows they aren’t overly close, but it’s still nice to get out and celebrate. Besides, Ryan loves weddings. Free booze, free food, an excuse to dress up and dance—what more could you want?

“How do you mean?” she finally asks.

He grins. “Well. We are out with other adults. The children are with a babysitter overnight. We have passable food, better booze, and an excuse to shake our groove things as much as we may want. And no one in this room will judge us.”

Sara pauses and gives him a look.

“Okay, your mother will probably judge us. But we’re accustomed to her judgement, so it doesn’t matter.”

She laughs, and he can already feel some of the tension loosening in her shoulders. “You have a point there.”

He grins as he spins her away from him. “We don’t have to make this about ourselves to make it about ourselves. I’m just happy to be out here dancing with my hot wife.”

“Okay, okay,” she sighs as she drapes her arms around his neck. “I will stop thinking and try to have some fun.”

“Good girl.” He glances to the side, before tipping his head towards one of the back corners of the venue. “Want to go put on those party hats and take photo booth pictures?”

“Oooh, yes. We need to have blackmail material to show the children later.”

He grins. “I love you. Let’s do it.” He turns around, placing her hands on his shoulders as they cha-cha their way over to the back booth.

The wedding eventually winds down, and they make their way out into the lobby. Sara’s eyes roam up to the ceiling as they pass through, and eventually she pauses. “This is a really nice hotel.”

Ryan raises an eyebrow at her curiously as they come to a stop. “Yes, it is. And you’re noticing this because…?”

“Well, you said it yourself. We have a babysitter for the night.”

“Yes, we do.”

“And now that the wedding is over, we could now decide to celebrate our anniversary without guilt.”

Ryan’s eyes narrow some more than he turns to face her fully. “Sara Fuller. Are you suggesting that we splurge and treat ourselves by seeing if there’s a free hotel room in this very fancy hotel?”

“Do you think it’s too much?”

“As in money or as in suiting the occasion?”

“More the money,” she admits. “I think that our deep abiding love is worth a little extravagance.”

“A good point. If we do, it’ll probably sting a little, but I don’t think we’ll regret it.”

Her smile brightens as she turns to head towards the front desk. “So you’re in?”

“Oh, I am absolutely in.” He turns to follow her as he reaches for his wallet. “Let’s get this party started.”
