Clark sits at his desk, typing away on his latest story when Lois nudges him to the side and reaches for his keyboard. Were he not used to it, he might have had some choice words about how this is his computer and Lois has one of her own right over there, but Clark knows better than to be confrontational with Lois and instead just looks confused.

“Hi?”

“You have to see this.”

She finishes typing, and he’s looking at a YouTube video. Apparently, a plane landed in the water just outside National City, which is news on its own, but he knows Lois. He knows there’s a difference between her sniffing out a story and something that has her this concerned. So he leans forward, taking a better look at the screen and that’s when he sees it.

Even with his Kryptionian vision it’s difficult to see—the video, unfortunately, isn’t high quality, and when you squint at a digital screen too long with supervision, eventually it all turns into pixels. But beneath the plane, doing her best to slow its descent, is a slim, blond girl that closely resembles his cousin Kara.

A small smile crosses his face, and he raises one hand to cover it, doing his best to school his reaction for anyone not Lois who may be watching. She still seems concerned.

“Is that who I think it is?”

Clark glances at her, then nods. “Yeah, I think so.” He then smiles as he goes to click the tab closed. “Good for her.”

Lois relaxes when she sees Clark isn’t panicking and moves to lean against the edge of his desk. “Think she might grant me an exclusive?”

He laughs. “You’ll have to beat Cat to the punch.”

Lois’ face sours. “Fine. I guess she can have her own Kryptonian.” Her head then tips to the side. “You seem proud of her. For picking up the family business.”

“I always knew she had it in her.”

“You should go see her.”

Clark blinks, confused. “She’s in National City.”

Lois leans in, dropping her voice. “And you can fly. I think you can make it with no one realizing it.”

“Fair point.” He glances over his shoulder for any sign of their editor and pushes up to his feet. “Cover for me with Perry?”

“Always,” Lois smiles before giving him a quick kiss. “Tell Kara I said hi.”

* * * * *

Not long after leaving the Daily Planet, Clark lands gently on the balcony of Kara’s apartment. He’s sure that her superhero coming out party has gotten a mix of reactions from the Danvers clan, and that seems to hold true when he sees her sitting on the couch, a torn expression on her face. Gently, he raps his knuckles against the pane of glass, and as she turns to see him, her face lights up.

She’s always so happy to see him. He should visit her more often.

“Clark, what are you doing here?” she grins as she opens the door, throwing her arms around his shoulders. “I didn’t know you were coming.”

He returns the hug tightly, keeping her close. “I saw you on the news. Thought you might need someone in the club to talk to.” The “club” being the superpowers club, specifically.

She pulls back and gives him a grateful look before gesturing for him to take a seat on the couch. “I know I shouldn’t have, but…Alex was on that plane. I couldn’t just let her or all of those people die when I could do something about it.”

Clark holds up his hands. “I am not one to cast judgment, given what I do every day. And personally, I think you did the right thing. You saved the lives of hundreds of people.”

Kara nods, before moving to sit on the coffee table. “Yeah, except now I’m on the DEO’s radar and I have to do the whole dual identity thing. I don’t even know if I want to be a superhero.”

Clark watches her, letting his gaze linger on her for a moment as she says that. He doesn’t have to read her mind to hear the lie, and he watches as her shoulders slump and the resolve comes out of that statement.

“Oh, who am I kidding? Of course, I want to be a superhero. All I’ve ever wanted to do is help people.” She buries her face in her hands. “I just hate that things are this complicated.”

“I know. I know.” Clark reaches forward, his hands finding her elbows. “Living the life we lead is not the easiest. But…based on what I saw in that video? I think you’re more than ready to take this on.”

“You think so?”

“I do.”

Kara smiles, before moving to sit next to him on the couch. Tucking into him as he wraps an arm around her shoulders, she looks up at him. “Do…you think it would be okay if I used our family crest, like you do?”

Clark’s eyes widen, surprised that she’s even asking the question. “Of course you can. It’s your family too, Kara. You probably have more of a right to it than I do.”

“Nonsense. You’re doing exactly what they would want you to do with it. Making the House of El a sign of hope and peace for the world.”

“Then why shouldn’t you use it? Since that’s what you’d be doing, too.”

Kara shrugs with a bit of a smirk. “I wasn’t sure if you’d want some rookie superhero running around and saying ‘I’m with him.’”

He laughs before pulling her closer. “I think for you, I can make an exception.”

She smiles. “Good.” Something loosens in her shoulders and she relaxes against him, some more excitement bubbling through her. “Good. Guess it’s my turn to go out and save the world.”

Clark can’t help but feel like the world is going to be in excellent hands.
