A wave of energy washes over the Waverider, and for a moment, things are how they should be.

But only for a moment.

Immediately after it passes, Zari screams. It’s loud and shrill and cuts through whatever confusion the rest of them are feeling to turn and look at her with annoyance instead.

“Would you calm down?” Sara sighs. “It’s not that big a deal.”

“Someone has clearly kidnapped us,” Zari points out, gesturing to the Waverider around them. “Does none of this give kidnapped vibes to the rest of you?”

“No, it’s just the Waverider,” Sara replies. “Rip may con you into coming on board, but it’s still your choice.” Then there’s a pause as she looks over the rest of the group. “Though I don’t recognize any of you. Mick? Ray?”

Neither man comes when she calls, and she frowns. “Oh. That’s not good.”

Behrad moves to stand next to his sister and drapes a protective arm over her shoulder. “Cool as this all may be—what exactly is the Waverider?”

“The Waverider is a Class-A time ship, currently assigned to the Legends to maintain the timeline.”

“Time ship?” Zari repeats and Behrad grins.

“Cool.”

“So where is this Rip guy, then?” Zari demands. “Because I did not consent to being on this time ship and I have a Cat Chat show to get to.”

Astra also raises her hand from the corner, clearly confused. “I also would like to know who this Rip is because I’m almost one hundred percent sure I’m not supposed to be here.”

“Does this involve aliens?” Spooner asks. “Because this feels like an aliens problem.”

“Gideon, what the hell is going on? Where is Rip?”

“I can’t say for sure, Ms. Lance, but I believe we might have hit some kind of time bubble that might have removed some of your memories, including my own.”

“This is just ridiculous,” Ava says as strides into the room. She holds up a hand as though she’s about to make a grand pronouncement when she notices the wedding and engagement ring on her finger. “…Okay, there are a few gaps in my knowledge.”

Sara frowns as she glances over at her own hand and sees a matching ring. “Apparently a few in mine, too.”

Nate holds up his hands, almost as though to calm down the group. “Okay, there’s likely a solution here somewhere. Gideon, you said that there might be a time bubble involved. Do you know how long these usually last?”

“Until we reach the end of the bubble, but they can vary in size. Could be anything from a few hours to a few days.”

“Great.” Nate waves a hand. “So why don’t we kick back, relax, and just ride things out until it blows over?”

“And what if it never blows over and we’re just stuck here on this ‘time ship’ forever?” Zari points out with hefty air quotes.

“Then we time travel. I’ve always wanted to time travel.” Nate grins and Zari shakes her head.

“I’m stuck with people with no survival instincts. But fine. You all wait it out. Behrad and I are going to go try to find a way out of here.”

Behrad looks like he’s about to protest his inclusion in this conversation, but before he can, Zari pulls him away. The rest of the group watches them go, and once they’re gone, Nate looks back at the rest of the room.

“Anyone here play poker?”

Almost all the hands go up. Not a bad way to spend the time.

A few hours later, when the second half of the time bubble washes over them and everything returns to normal, they get all their memories back. The room takes on a more familiar tone, and Behrad and Zari come to rejoin them. In the end, it’s like nothing ever changed, but there’s nothing wrong with making new friends, even if they were already your friend.
