prompts { 2021 } alphabetasoup
I have an itch and don't want to just write flash fiction. IDK if I'm going to use this prompt table for all the same people, but I'm going to start with some Teen Wolf and Leverage because that's where my brain is I lied, this is turning into a Teen Wolf/TVDverse Soulmate AU collection, I'm just indulging my bliss here.

The Abattoir is empty when Klaus finally begins dismantling the wall, brick by brick. By the time he’s able to remove Aurora from her prison, the first light is around the corner. Gently, he carries her to a room spelled by Vincent for this purpose and debates how to proceed. The easiest thing would be to slip simply into her mind while she’s still dessicated, demand the information he wishes to know and not risk turning her into a threat that he knows she will become. Or, he could give her blood to show that he’s negotiating for the information he needs in good faith.
He's not sure there’s any good faith left to give between him and Aurora anymore, not with how complicated their history may be. But now that he can, in some ways, admit the role he played in who Aurora became, they can start in a better place. He gives her just enough blood to wake her and settles into the chair across from her with a book. He’s about halfway through when she finally rises, glancing across from him with an eyebrow raised.
“Well. If this isn’t the last thing I expected.” She brushes some of the brick dust off her arms. “To what do I owe the pleasure? Come to tell me you recognize your mistakes?”
“Something like that. We need to talk, Aurora.”
“About us?”
“About Malivore.”
“Malivore.” Her eyes widen. “Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in centuries. What’s that old mud pit up to now?”
“Terrorizing my daughter and looking to possess another small child, apparently.”
Aurora blinks, confused. “I’m sorry, darling. I think I’m going to need you to start from the beginning.”
So Klaus does, recounting everything that they’ve discovered. The attack on the Abattoir, being taken by Triad, the people they’ve lost and regained, and the threats to his daughter. The more he explains, the more concerned Aurora’s face appears.
“So what does this have to do with Hope?”
“Hope is the loophole. Her tribrid blood could end this creature, but in order to do that, she would have to become a vampire. She’s seven, Aurora. And these men working for your monster will not stop until we have neutralized her somehow.”
“And what does that have to do with me? It’s not as though I can command it to stop.”
“Your blood created it, Aurora. According to the witches we have working on it, your blood could help destroy it.”
“Ah. I see.” Aurora leans back against the back of her chair. “So this is a negotiation. In exchange for my blood, you will give me what? My freedom?” She raises an eyebrow before shaking her head. “No. You’re not getting off that easy.”
“Do you think releasing you out into the world is easy for me? Not knowing where you are, where you might come from next?”
Aurora’s eyes blaze as she enjoys that admission from him. “While your paranoia is a gift, it’s not new. Besides, you hadn’t thought of me for centuries before we met again—I do not intend to go away so easily this time.”
“Aurora—”
“I know that there is no bringing Tristan back. Elijah died and so did he. But still I am not free. I’ve had a long time to think, sealed in that wall, and I’ve decided. I want to be free, Niklaus. Free of you.”
“I am not trying to keep you.”
“But that doesn’t mean I can escape my mind. You are always there and so long as I remember, I will never be free.”
As realization sinks in, he leans back in his seat, considering the ramifications. “It’s not a simple thing, Aurora. To just erase myself from your memory when—”
“You’ve controlled so much of my thoughts for the past thousand years? No, I agree. It would need to be delicately done. But that is my price for my blood.”
“You will give your blood before I do this. And … I can’t promise it will be exactly what you want.”
“Then what can you promise me?”
“I …” He pauses, trying to put it into words. “I will need some time.”
“Fine. I assume I’m spelled into this room?”
“You are.” Klaus rises to his feet. “There’s blood in the small fridge. I will return when I have my answer.” He leaves before she can counter him, walking out of not just the room, but the Abattoir as well, heading into the city streets.
“Just give her what she wants, Klaus.”
Normally, Hayley going against him is a sign that he should change his course. But this time, he can’t be sure. Sitting in a bar with his phone to his ear, he leans away from his whiskey and tries to articulate his feelings that she would understand.
“Compulsion isn’t foolproof, Hayley. You know that as well as anyone.”
“Maybe not, but it should at least last long enough for Hope to have a life and come into power on her own. It will give her time to build a life that’s her own and allow her to see the difference. Maybe it’s worth trying.”
“No.”
“Klaus—”
“She doesn’t get to forget the things she’s done to us. She doesn’t get to forget what I meant to her.”
“Or what she meant to you?”
He presses his lips together, allowing the silence to drift between them. Almost as though she can sense his discomfort, she follows up with:
“When your soulmate’s a thousand years old, you expect him having some exes. It doesn’t bother me.”
“That’s not it.”
“Can you explain it to me, then? With your words? Because while I can feel your feelings sometimes, I can’t read your mind.”
“I wasn’t the only person Aurora hurt.”
There’s a period of silence and Klaus can feel the wheels turning as she connects the pieces. “You don’t want her to forget how she hurt Cami.”
“No. Cami doesn’t deserve that, and Aurora certainly doesn’t.”
“Then what would you suggest? Because Aurora will not help you unless you’re prepared to come in with a counteroffer that really scratches that itch for her.”
“I know.” Klaus reaches for the glass in front of him. “How’s Hope doing?”
“She’s making friends. She’s thick as thieves with Landon and Rafael already.”
“Good. You’re right. She needs good friends.” Klaus finishes his glass before getting to his feet. “I love you both. Tell her I said hello.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to talk to her?”
“No. Not until I have an answer that is going to protect her.”
He hangs up not long after, before leaving cash for his drink and heading to the door.
He returns to the room, settling back into his seat across from her, and he can sense Aurora sizing him up, trying to see how much slack he’s going to give her. “So?” she asks, head tilted curiously. “Do we have a deal?”
“No,” Klaus replies. “We do not.” He watches as her face fall and he holds up his hands. “If I were the only one you had harmed, Aurora, this would be a different conversation. But there were innocent people you hurt, and I can’t let you simply forget that and walk away.”
Aurora huffs, before dropping into the chair across from him. “Then what would you suggest?”
“You’ll give me your blood and I will let you go. And I will wish you all the best in your future endeavors, but never darken your doorstep again.”
“So that’s all? I walk away and you give me nothing.”
“I don’t think we owe each other anything else. And if we keep making this a game of tipping scales, we’ll never be even.”
Her jaw tenses as she considers, before nodding. “Fine. I’ll give you the blood, and I walk away.” There’s a pause as her shoulders slump. “I just … I don’t know how to let go, Klaus.”
“Find a way. I can’t give that to you.” Giving it to her doesn’t make it real. It’s something she has to find in herself. “I really wish you the best for your life, Aurora. Whatever form that may take.” Just have it be far away from him.
She nods, before swiping the tears away from one eye and nodding. “So. Where’s this vial you need me to fill?”
Klaus pulls it out of his pocket, and he hopes that this is a step in the right direction, rather than two steps back.
