“This is a bad idea,” Rowan muttered as he sat next to Caroline on the plane from Miami to New York, giving her a look, “This is a very bad idea.”
“What is?” she asked, turning and giving him a look, “Going back home, or not telling Ryan that we’re doing it?”
“Both?” he offered.
“Look, first of all, Ryan is the one being an idiot and not making himself available to tell him by not going to sleep,” she pointed out, “Second of all—it’s not like he’s our father.”
“He’s busy, so what?” Rowan frowned, “We could have at least told the half of him that’s over here, so that he gets it when he finally does go to sleep.”
“We’d probably run into him before hand so it doesn’t really matter,” Caroline rolled her eyes, “As for going home—what’s wrong with going home?”
Rowan gave her a look, “You really think that you’re loyal followers are going to be thrilled with the fact that you’ve suddenly risen from the ashes and are back to whip them into submission again?”
“Oh, I know they’re not,” she smirked, shifting in the airline seat slightly, “But I’ll whip their asses back into shape, and that’ll be that.”
“I think I just remembered why I didn’t like you when we were back home,” Rowan shook his head, “Tyrant bitch.”
“Damn straight,” Caroline smirked, “But you’ve got to admit, I’ve softened a bit since I’ve been here.”
“I admit nothing,” Rowan replied, “Because you did still threaten to beat the shit out of me if I didn’t come with you.”
“Minor detail,” she laughed. Rowan just shook his head and watched her as she settled back into the airline seat, closing her eyes. “Now would you just relax and enjoy the flight, please?”
Rowan shook his head, before leaning back his chair himself, and focusing on the in-flight movie. He had a feeling it was going to be a long, long flight.

Danny opened the cabinet in the room of the tower that used to be his for what was probably the fiftieth time since he had arrived. He ran his fingers over the leather casings of the swords and couldn’t help but smile. True, there had been many things he hadn’t missed about Everworld, but his swords—that was something he had. Call him old-fashioned, but he had missed the feeling of the hilt of a sword in his hand. Guns were effective, true, but they lacked the grace and precision of a blade. Guns were too messy, too impersonal. A sword? A sword fight told a story. There was a relationship there. Someone took the time to fight you with a sword, they wanted to prove a point.
“Missed them, did you?” a voice came from the door, and he turned to see Jarius leaning in the doorway, watching him.
“You have no idea,” Danny shook his head, pulling one of the swords out of the chest with one hand, and then taking hold of the hilt with the other.
“Better be careful with that,” Jarius teased, “You wouldn’t want to hurt yourself.”
Danny gave the other man a look, “I’ve forgotten some things Jarius, but there’s quite a few I haven’t forgotten.” He drew the sword, and rotated it in his fingers for a moment, studying it slightly. His fingers were a bit rusty with the blade, but he could feel it coming back to him, the motions becoming more fluid. He rotated his wrist, swinging the blade through the air, and then giving his friend a grin, “Not bad, eh?”
“Well—at least you didn’t cut your ear off,” the other smirked. Danny gave him a look.
“You want me to hurt you, don’t you?”
“How’s that?” Jarius asked, finally moving from the doorway and in to the room.
“You want me to have to kick your ass and remind you why I was in charge.”
Jarius raised an eyebrow, “If I remember correctly, Daniel—my record was better than yours.”
“See, that’s not what I remember,” Danny shook his head with a grin, “I remember forcing your hand on a regular basis.”
“I smell a challenge there?” Jarius said, his smirk widening into a grin.
“Possibly. Do you accept?”
“I do, and I’ll even give you the upper hand.” Jarius walked over to the cabinet and picked up one of the swords, “I won’t use two.”
Danny glanced at him for a minute, and then his face split into a grin, “I hope you’re ready for this.”
“Daniel, Daniel, Daniel,” he sighed, shaking his head as he clapped his friend on the shoulder, “I’m not the one who’s been out of practice for the past fifteen years—it is you who I hope is ready.”

“Can I get you guys anything else?” Melinda asked as she bustled around her kitchen.
“Melinda, would you stop and sit for a minute?” Rowan replied, “I think we need to talk a bit first.”
“Yeah—like who’s the guy?” Caroline replied with a smirk.
Melinda let the plate in her hand clatter down on the counter, and Caroline could have sworn she picked up the touch of a blush on her friends cheeks. “What guy?”
“Oh, don’t give me that,” Caroline said, as Melinda came back over to her and placed a plate of food in front of her, “I can practically smell him on you.” The blush on her friend’s cheek intensified, and Caroline’s smile only widened. Rowan shot her a look.
“Be nice,” he said, “You’re not back in tyrant mode yet.”
“I’m just curious,” Caroline replied, “It’s not that often that I can say stuff like that to her. There’s never a guy. Ever.”
“And there still isn’t,” Melinda said, “He just—he kind of got caught in the crossfire when it came to Danny, and I’ve been trying to help him—get a handle on things.”
“In exchange for what?” Caroline asked.
“In exchange for nothing,” Melinda replied, giving her friend a look as she moved back in the kitchen again, “In exchange for keeping him alive while he’s over there.”
“You really have no sense of opportunity, do you?” Caroline shook her head before sampling whatever was in front of her.
“OK, can we stop talking about me, and start talking about the matter at hand?” Melinda sighed, sitting down at the table and giving them both a look.
Caroline rolled her eyes, and crossed her arms in front of her chest, “If you insist—but that’s not nearly as interesting.”
“I’m sure,” Melinda sighed, “But here’s what we need to do—”

Danny laughed slightly as he wiped the sweat from his face, collapsing down into the seat in the Great Hall. “I won.”
“You didn’t win,” Jarius replied.
“He won, Jarius,” Christian said with a smirk, settling himself down in front of the fire to play with the flames. He was still a bit rusty with his magic, but he was getting better with it.
“He cheated was what he did,” Jarius replied.
“I cheated?” Danny said, giving his friend a look, “How in the hell did I do that?”
“I’m not sure yet,” Jarius said with a smirk, and Danny laughed before leaning back into the chair and closing his eyes.
“Jarius, if the world wasn’t coming to an end, I’d say I was happy to be back,” he murmured.
“I think I’d have to agree with that,” Jarius sighed pensively. He turned his attention towards the fire, watching as Christian periodically made the flames grow and shrink, until suddenly the flames went out entirely.
“What’d you do that for?” Danny frowned and the room slipped into semi-darkness.
“I didn’t,” Christian replied, climbing up and starting to back away from the fireplace, “Something else did.”
Suddenly, a bright light and the fireplace split like a crack down the middle. Two figures were suddenly throttled through the doorway, one Christian manage to catch, the other landing flat on his face on the floor. Once they were both there, the crack sealed itself quickly, and the fire resumed in the hearth. Christian looked down at the person he had caught, and then immediately dropped her.
“Ow,” Caroline whined, shooting him a look, “Nice to see you too, Christian.”
“What the hell are you doing here?” he asked.
“We’re here to help,” she replied, “Apparently the world’s coming to an end.”
“We?” he frowned before turning to see Rowan lying on his back behind him, getting ready to have Danny pull him to his feet. “Well—I’m happy to see him at least.”
Caroline’s eyes flared slightly as extended a hand to Jarius and he helped her to her feet. She turned to him and gave him a quick smile, “It’s nice to see chivalry isn’t entirely dead.”
“We don’t need your help,” Christian replied, still glaring at her, and Caroline crossed her arms across her chest.
“We aren’t going to start this up again, are we?” she sighed, “Can’t we call a truce of some kind, and settle our differences like rational people?”
“You are anything but rational,” Christian replied, walking away from her towards the mantle.
“She is right though,” Danny interjected, “We do need all the help we can get.”
Caroline shot him a look that said ‘I told you so’ before walking over and perching on the armrest of Jarius’s chair, crossing her legs. “Thank you, Danny.”
“Don’t thank me yet,” Danny sighed, “How did you find out about what was going on anyway? Mel call you?”
“Not Mel,” Rowan shook his head, “Ryan. Both he and Rachel are here, and while Ryan’s half here and half there, Rachel’s completely gone and we have no idea where she may be.”
“Well, this is just beautiful,” Danny shook his head, “Wherever he is, we have to find her.”
“I think Ryan’s on his way here,” Caroline replied, “If we wait it out till he gets here, he might have a better idea.”
Danny nodded, before running a hand over his eyes, “That sounds like a plan to me.”
“So I guess we wait then?” Christian frowned.
“Guess we do,” Rowan nodded.

Besides, Ryan/Caroline fights are so much hotter. Him and Rachel don't really fight. She just annoys him.
