Author's Note: REALLY REALLY AU. This is, after all, a crossover with a sci-fi/fantasy series. If you are curious and want to know more about Everworld, there are links to the reference posts in the disclaimer. Also, this is follows my fic, Another World. You don't have to read it in order to get this, but it might be easier if you do.
Disclaimer: If they're the characters of CSI:NY or listed here, I don't own it, and they belong to CBS or K. A. Applegate. However, if it's listed here, it is mine, so please don't use it without my permission.

“So let me make sure I’ve got this,” Eric said. They were sitting outside on the porch of the beach house, and he had spent the last few hours listening to her explain how everything had worked. He still wasn’t sure he really believed it, but he wanted to make sure he got the whole picture. “First, we’re in an alternate dimension. Where all the pagan gods from the early years went when people first abandoned them for Christianity.”

“Right,” she nodded, “They wanted to go somewhere where they could always have absolute power.”

“OK,” he nodded, “And you can turn yourself invisible and read people’s minds.”

“I can’t read people’s minds,” she corrected gently, “I can only speak to them through their minds. I can’t tell you want you’re thinking or anything like that.”

“Oh,” he said, “And those pirates—”

“Are basically this world’s version of a sex trader,” she sighed, “They kidnap people and sell them for sex acts. There’s a land version of them that grabs people for more hard labor kinds of things, but—that usually turns into sex being covered as well—you see where I’m going with this?”

“That this world—dimension—whatever it is—isn’t exactly a nice place?”

“Pretty much,” she grinned.

“Well, I can see why you left,” he said, and she shook her head. “But can I ask how?”

“There was this war,” she replied, “Between the goddess Eris, Greek goddess of Chaos, and Camulos, the Celtic god of war decided that they were going to piss each other off and started a massive war. Camulos requested the help of the tribes of people he had control over, ten of them, and they banded together to form an army. In return for fighting together and helping him win, the leaders would be sent to the Old World and live normal lives.”

“And you were the leader for your group?” he asked.

“Kind of,” Rachel said, “My brother was the leader. I was his second in command. He—he died.”

“I’m sorry,” Eric frowned.

“It’s OK,” she nodded, “It was a long time ago. Anyway, I got the fringe benefits and took his place in the deal.”
“So I take it the gods that live here, aren’t just your classic Greek gods that we’re used to?” he said, and she shook her head, before looking away from him out to the beach.

“Nope,” she nodded, “Definitely not.”

He frowned slightly before putting her hand on her knee, “Hey, you alright?”

She took a deep breath before glancing back into the house, and then responding so only he could hear. I have a bad feeling about this. She knew he couldn’t respond to her directly, but if she was choosing to communicate like this, then she wanted him to be discreet about it.

“Why?”

I don’t trust them. Something doesn’t feel right.

“Well, what do you want to do? Leave?”

She tapped herself on the nose with a smile, before turning and seeing Gregorum standing behind them.

“Can I help you?” she asked.

If you’re so much about respect, why don’t you communicate how we were intended to?

“I will communicate with you however I chose to,” she replied giving him a small smile, “That’s one of the beautiful things about having free will.”

Gregorum swallowed before speaking, “Bartleby is stepping out for a moment. He wanted me to ask if you wanted anything.”

“No, I’m fine,” she replied, before turning back to Eric, “Do you?”

“I’m fine,” he agreed, and she turned back to Gregorum with a nod.

“We don’t need anything, no.”

“Very well,” he nodded before walking back in the door.

We need to get out of here as soon as possible.

“Where?” he asked, and she shrugged before responding.

Avalon.

He frowned, and she took a deep breath before explaining, I have friends there. Very old friends. They’ll help us.

“Will they?” he asked.

Yes. We just have to get out of here.

“When?”

Tonight. I’ll wake you up.

“I hope you know what you’re doing.”

“So do I,” she whispered.

***

The voice was low and gravely in her ear, and even though she had been mostly asleep when she heard it, the combination of the foul breath against her ear, the scratch of the beard stubble, and the voice was enough to wake her up instantly.

“Hello, Little Fish.”

She bolted upright instantly, and backed as far away from the voice as she could but when her back hit the wall, she knew she had nowhere else to go. The man wrapped a grimy hand around her ankle before yanking her forward so that she was lying on her back on the bed. She started to kick and fight as best she could, but it was no use, he was holding onto her to tightly.

His black beady eyes blinked back at her, before he lifted her into the air and held her upside down in front of him.

“Now, now, Fishy,” he sighed, “Let’s not be mean to old Uncle Norbert. We wouldn’t want him to treat your pretty friend over there too badly now would we.”

Rachel’s head whipped around to see where they had Eric tied up and restrained. She could see that he was trying to struggle, but there really wasn’t anything he could do. She stopped fighting so much, and felt him release her ankle. Her body plummeted to the ground, and then she felt more hands on her, dragging her up again, and pulling her out the door of the place.

“You have to move quickly,” a voice came from somewhere in the room, and Rachel recognized it immediately, “Bartleby will be back soon, and he can’t see you leaving.” She looked up and spotted Gregorum.

Traitor, she hissed to him, I’ll see you hang for this.

Oh, no, you won’t, Princess, he countered back with a smirk, You won’t be seeing anything at all.

She and Eric were both led out of the house and towards a cart that was sitting at the side of the road. She glanced around, trying to find some way out, some way to escape, when she made contact with a pair of golden eyes sitting on the side of the road. She saw the eyes start to move closer, and from the shadows came a wolf, tense and ready to pounce. She knew exactly who it was.

No, she ordered, Not now. Get help first.

The wolf gave a slight nod, before watching as Eric and Rachel were loaded onto the cart, and carried away by the pirates. Once they were out of view, he headed back to the road higher up on the hill, slowly changing back into his normal self so that by the time he got back to Calleigh and the stranger who was helping them, a Sir Callum, he was himself again.

“What happened?” Calleigh asked.

“The pirates have Rachel and Eric,” he nodded, “She told me to get help. We need to get to Avalon—now.”

“I couldn’t agree with you more, my friend,” Callum replied, motioning for them to get back on the cart, “I couldn’t agree with you more.”
