set 2 | to say i love you right out loud ~ new york wolves ~ 600
Nadia sees Leah in the mirror, and she shakes her head with a wide smile. “Not at all.”
“Liar.”
Leah walks closer as she turns the bride to be to face her. Leah isn’t wrong to call her out on it. No bride is completely solid on their wedding day. There’s always the tiny flutter of anxious anticipation, fretting about making sure that everything is perfect. But Nadia has been through this enough professionally. It isn’t much different when it’s her party to plan.
All she needs is for Peter to be at the other end of that aisle. Everything will be fine.
Nadia shrugs before turning to face her sister-in-law. “Were you nervous with Victor?”
“No.” Leah shakes her head. “But he sure was.”
Nadia laughs. “Probably because he knew that he was the one marrying up.”
“Well, I am quite the catch,” Leah grins before placing a hand on Nadia’s shoulder to pull her in for a warm hug. Nadia returns it in kind before pulling back to look at her friend with a smile. “You know, I have to admit. I highly doubted we would have this moment.”
“You mean where I’m the one in the wedding dress?”
“That one exactly,” Leah smirks. “I didn’t think you believed in the institution.”
“I don’t not believe in it,” Nadia smiles as she goes to pick up her bouquet from the table. “I just didn’t think I had anything to prove.”
“And now you do?”
She shakes her head. “No. But I don’t think he would have asked me to marry him if he didn’t want a wedding.”
“Fair enough,” Leah sighs before a knock sounds on the door.
“Ladies, five minutes.” The wedding planner doesn’t wait for a response before moving on to the next door in the hallway. Leah reaches out to take Nadia’s arm giving it a soft squeeze.
“Ready?”
Nadia nods with a small smile in return. “As I’ll ever be.”
They kept the wedding intentionally small, not wanting more than family and close friends. They also wave some of the more dramatic elements of the reception, keeping things quiet and intimate. But unlike most special occasions they tend to venture out into, Nadia is sure to snag her newly minted husband for their fair share of dancing.
She drapes one arm over his shoulders and flashes him a smile. “Any regrets?”
“I feel like I should be asking you that question,” he teases as he pulls her closer. “I’m generally the more damaged one in this equation.”
“That’s a matter of opinion,” she smirks before leaning in to kiss him. “But no. No regrets on my end.”
“Good,” he murmurs into the kiss as he pulls her in closer.
“You still haven’t answered my question.”
“If I have any regrets?” Peter glances over at her with a smirk before shaking his head. “No, no regrets.”
“Good,” she sighs. She shifts and turns away from the rest of her room, lowering her voice so the rest of the wolf ears in the room can’t hear her. “So how soon can we skip to the honeymoon?”
He laughs, his thumb brushing against the small of her back. “I think we have to have cake at least.”
“Fair enough.”
“Possibly handle a few more minor traditions.”
“So long as they’re only minor.”
He laughs. “Relax. You’ll have me all to yourself soon enough.”
“Promises, promises,” she teases before leaning in to kiss him again. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he murmurs in return as they dance the night away.
