thor and wanda's excellent adventure [1/5] | marvel cinematic universe | 824 | set 7
As much as Thor believes they’ll be able to travel anywhere, so long as they put their mind to it, wrangling another ship to venture outwards is a simple thing that can be done easily, actually putting those beliefs into practice is another thing entirely. Spoiled by the nature of Asgard where they have a built in transport system in the rainbow bridge and how amenable the Guardians had been, he ventures into the local establishments, searching for someone to get he and Wanda wherever they need to go. He offers to both pay well and the pleasure of their company, but given the reputation he developed for drawing if not welcoming trouble, as well as the destination, not many pilots were willing to brave it.
Thor briefly considered simply buying a ship of his own when things got especially difficult, which they didn’t have the credits for, but eventually they managed to find a ship that was enthralled by the idea of having an Asgardian on board, rather than opposed. After that, it was off to Vanaheim, and Thor happily recounted numerous tales of the Vanir, a strong and resilient people. Rivals of the Asgardians, but friendly ones.
(The example he uses is like the Yankees and their friends with the red socks, and Wanda comes to the conclusion that Steve did not teach Thor enough about how baseball works.)
That being said, when they finally land on Vanaheim, and take in the scene around them, they find there’s not much of a battle left. Both groups seem to be licking their wounds over their conceded victory, and Sif is standing off to the side, still donned in her battle armor. Wanda watches the bright smile that crosses the other man’s face, before he throws his arms open and goes to greet her.
“Sif! It is wonderful to see you.”
Sif greets him with a warm smile and an equally warm hug, before she pulls back with a teasing smirk. “Punctual as always, I see.”
“Apparently without a bifrost, things become much more complicated,” he admits sheepishly, and Sif’s face falls.
“I heard about Heimdall, and Asgard. I’m glad that you and our people still live.”
Thor nods. “I’m sorry I missed the battle. I was actually looking forward to punching something.”
She laughs, before her face shifts to something more of concern. “Actually, there’s another reason I wanted you here. There’s something I think you should know.”
Wanda has been watching from a distance, giving Thor a chance to catch up with his friend and not wanting to intrude on that time, but at some point the conversation takes a turn, and she sees Thor’s entire body language change. Eventually they turn away from where she is waiting with the ship, having a conversation that she could spy on if she wanted to, but she doesn’t. If it matters, Thor would tell her. She just hopes it doesn’t end in him losing any more than he already has.
When he finally pulls away from Sif, making his way back towards the cruiser they were using, he looks at her for a moment and looks so lost. She recognizes the look well, saw it in Steve whenever it came to anything related to Bucky or Peggy or anyone else he lost when he fell into the ice. She almost doesn’t want to ask because whoever could conjure those feelings for Thor was likely someone that could be dangerous.
“I need your help.” He asks softly, looking plaintively into her eyes almost as though he doesn’t know the words to use. “Please. It’s possible you’re the only one who can.”
Wanda straightens, concerned, before swallowing hard. “What do you need?” It is not a stretch to say that she would do anything for him, but she feels the need to ask what it is first.
“I need you to help me find my brother.”
She frowns, confusion masking her features as she processes that. “I thought you said your brother was dead.”
“He was. But Sif says that when she was trying to recover relics from Asgard’s fall, his name was not in the Book of the Dead. That book is automatically updated, no matter the circumstances, so if his name is not in it …”
“Then he must be somewhere else.” She can follow his conclusions through to their logical end, but she pauses because while she’s never met Loki herself, she’s heard a lot of stories that don’t always paint him in the best life. If he isn’t causing trouble, perhaps it’s best to leave him alone. “Are you sure?” she asks, even though she feels like she already knows what his answer would be.
“Would you, if it were yours?”
Wanda swallows, before nodding. “How can I help?”
