For the record, Gabriel didn’t think this plan would work.
In fact, he thought this was a very stupid plan. The reasons were many, but the biggest one being that the Winchesters had been in Hell for a hundred years. One hundred times twelve equaled twelve hundred months. Twelve hundred months times ten years per month … twelve thousand years in Hell. As far as Gabriel was concerned, they’d be lucky if they found anything left. But Castiel wanted to go through with it, even though he knew it was a trap. Even though he knew it was a long shot that there would actually be something salvageable left of the Winchesters.
Gabriel owed Castiel. He kept Gabriel’s identity and location from every angel that came knocking on his door, and for the most part Heaven left Gabriel and Kali alone. That is why Gabriel is here. Nothing else.
When he’s actually standing face to face with Sam, or what’s left of him anyway, he still doesn’t think this was a good idea. Faith was standing behind him, watching Sam as he curled into a corner of the motel room, one giant arm shielding his eyes from the light as he snarled at Gabriel.
“Dean.” He stated evenly. “Where’s Dean? Where’s my brother?”
“Easy there, big guy,” Gabriel sighed as he started to move closer, hands out in front of him as though to say ‘I come in peace.’ “It’s me, Gabriel. Can you remember?”
“Where’s Dean?!”
“It’s always a one track mind with you mooks, isn’t it? No wonder the fangirls always thought you were doing each other.”
“Yeah—that’s more information than I ever wanted to know.” There was a heavy sigh, before there a soft puff of breath next to his cheek, while Faith looked over his shoulder. “Want me to pin him down?” Faith offered. “Or do … something?”
“This guy has got twelve thousand years of being bat around like a kitten toy by Lucifer.” Gabriel gave her a mild glare, before rolling his eyes. “Stand back. I’ve got this covered.”
Sam was still snarling as the archangel turned back to face him, before starting to advance closer. Sam tried to scramble out of the way, but Gabriel was faster, shifting so that he can pin him to the wall and keep him still. Sam whimpered a bit, and tried to get away from the hand that was planting itself against his forehead, but Gabriel was stronger. He paused for a moment, taking a breath before doing his best to wipe the past twelve thousand years from Sam’s mind. It was hard, because it was a lot of pain and suffering, as well as things that Gabriel never even wanted to see, but eventually he managed to pull back enough that the last thing Sam would remember was him jumping into the pit and pulling Michael and Dean with him.
And then he put him to sleep. It would just be easier for all concerned. He locked the memories away in the back of his mind, where only he could unlock them, and then teleported him over to the bed to sleep it off. He then dusted his hands off and glanced back at Faith with a shrug. “Well, that’s my end of the deal. Good luck with him.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on—you can’t just leave me here with him.”
“Why not? You’re the one who got him into this mess.”
“Yeah, but he’s not gonna trust me. He has no idea who I am.”
Gabriel knew she had a point. He didn’t want her to have a point, but he knew she had one. He sighed heavily, before moving over to one of the chairs and plopping down, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “Fine. But if my girlfriend roasts me for being late for dinner? I’m taking it out of your hide.”
“Yeah, sure,” she said with a smirk, before going back to sitting on the chair again. “So. How’s tricks?”

A few hours later, Sam was coming to with a groan. He blinked for a moment, before glancing around until his eyes landed on the angel across the room. “Gabriel?”
“Hiya, Sam,” he said as he pushed himself up. “How’s the head?”
He made a face like he had swallowed something terrible, before shrugging. “Been better.” There was a beat. “Aren’t you supposed to be dead?”
“I got better,” he quipped, before making his way over. “It’s 2110. This is Faith. She’s going to take you back to Castiel, who has your brother.”
“Whoa—slow down.” Sam sat up, giving Gabriel an incredulous look. “Last thing I remember, it was 2010, I was dragging your brothers and mine into Hell, and I wasn’t looking to get out anytime soon. Back up a bit.”
Gabriel held up his hands before nodding. “Your old buddy Meg managed to survive these hundred years and managed to find all the ingredients to a very old spell that would hold some things down while other things came out, but she needed an angel to do it. She used Faith here to recruit Cas. Cas, knowing that was a trap, recruited yours truly, and we used it to bail you and your brother out.”
“So I was in Hell for a hundred years.” He nodded, considering that for a moment. “I can’t remember any of it.”
“Yeah. You’re welcome.”
“Right,” Sam sighed, before turning his eyes on the brunette. “And it’s Faith.”
“Yup,” she nodded. “That’s my name.”
“Now that you two are on a first name basis, I’m going to take my leave. You kids have fun.” And with that, he blinked out of the room and headed back home. Faith and Sam will probably be more than able to figure it out, all on their own.
It would just take a matter of time.
