Faith was an idiot.
She should have known that the real B would have never taken her back into the inner circle. It was all a sweet lie that she fell for, hook, line and sinker. Whoever it was that was wearing Buffy and played her like a violin and now it had Cas trapped in holy fire and probably planned to kill her when this was over. Stupid, Faith. So fucking stupid. She glanced over at the angel from where she was pinned to the far wall, and gave him the most pathetic look she could manage.
“Cas—”
“It’s fine.” He cut her off before the apology was out of her mouth. His eyes were still on the demon that was possessing the blond. “Hello, Meg.”
The blond beamed up at him. “So you do remember me,” she said with a smile, staying on the fringes of the fire, not close enough for him to reach through and grab her. “I was hoping so—we’ve done this dance before, haven’t we, lover?”
Faith couldn’t tell if the demon was kidding or not. That was usually a bad sign. Castiel didn’t show any sign of response to that statement, but then again, he never did. Either way, it wasn’t like Faith could do anything about it. She was stuck, flanked by two demons with no room to move. She wasn’t going to be able to get to Castiel’s side anyway, so she might as well just wait it out and see what happened.
“I suppose this means that you have no intention of raising Sam and Dean.” Castiel’s eyes were focused on the demon in a way that Faith hasn’t seen before. “You’re after Lucifer.”
“If you want to be technical, we’re going to be raising Sam by default. Our Father needs a vessel to roam around in. Sam will be perfect.” She gave him a bright smile that looked wrong on Buffy’s face, before moving over to where she left the spell ingredients. “Did you bring the rings?”
“Of course,” Castiel replied, reaching into his pocket to retrieve four rings that seemed to be bound together somehow. “Do you have the rest of what I need?”
‘Meg’ ran her hand along the table with the ingredients, before giving him a smile. “You know I did. Now. If I turn off the stove, are you going to be a good little boy and let my father go, or are you going to fly away and force me to kill your pretty Slayer friend over there.”
“Don’t worry. I intend to perform the spell.”
Faith blinked. She’d always seen Castiel as the big picture guy. She didn’t think he would be the one to put her life ahead of the safety of the planet. Then again, she also knew him as the guy who always had something up his sleeve, so she was willing to bet that there was something waiting in the wings that Meg didn’t know about. It was just a matter of figuring out when.
“Though you won’t be here to see it.”
Meg turned on him with narrowed eyes, searching it for some kind of sign of what exactly he was referring to. “And why’s that? You go back on our deal, she dies.”
“I have something you didn’t count on.” There was the slightest hint of a smirk on the angel’s face. “I brought back up.”
Meg’s eyes widened. “You brought what?”
“You really think he was stupid enough to believe that someone actually wanted to save the Winchesters?” Faith turned in the direction of the new voice, and her eyebrows went up. It was the Goofy Guy—Cas’s brother that she never got the name of. Meg’s eyes widened, and she started to stumble backwards.
“Gabriel … ”
“Oh, don’t try and dig yourself out now, sweetheart,” Gabriel sniped back at her. “It’s beneath you.” His eyes turned and met Faith’s over the top of Meg’s head, and gave her a wink. “Might want to close those eyes, Faith. This isn’t going to be pretty.”
When it came to angels, they never had to tell her twice. She pinched her eyes closed, before turning her head to the side as everything started to go white.
