Question for Vampire Diaries fans:

So, how involved would I have to be to understand what's going on on the show. Because I watched the pilot but I wasn't in love with it? However, apparently Lauren Cohan is going to be guesting as a vamp later this season, so I'm curious -- if I read Wikipedia will I be able to at least follow along, or is it one of those shows where I have to watch the whole thing in order to get it?

Basically, is this a How I Met Your Mother, or is it a Lost?

Huzzah! That is some awesome news. As for the whole getting to know VD. The recaps before the episode help a lot and the complexity of the storyline isn't all that hard to get. I don't think you have to watch the whole thing to understand it. But if you want to get ground work on it, watch like an episode or two?

I've seen the pilot? And I've read some stuff on Wikipedia just out of curiosity. But the show didn't really grab me, aside from Ian being so very pretty, so I haven't really been watching?

Yeah, if you been keeping up with Wiki, you really don't need to watch anything per-say. But the pilot was sort of...eh, it didn't quite make the show seem all that great. But as you keep watching it Ian really makes the show. Paul Wesley isn't that bad either.

Ian is fabulous, I know that, but vampires also aren't really my thing. Buffy/Angel was a rare exception.

Dude, same here. As far as I know it's just the one, but they made some kind of implication about her being a love interest for Damon, so I guess there could be more? IDK, I'm not familiar with the books at all.

She's first showing up in 208.

You have to give the show about 6 episodes and then they hook you, I caught up when Anders was showing up last season and it's been completely worth it. One of my fave shows on tv right now.

LAUREEEEEEN. It's a good thing I already watch it. I did not like the pilot at all. It took me a really good while to get into it, but the show does progressively get better.

I think as long as you read recaps/Wikipedia you won't miss much. And in any case, we can help fill in the blanks!

The first few episodes aren't great, but once it gets it right, it's consistently well-written, developed and a genuinely good show. This is coming from a vampire-hater, so that's saying a lot. Hahaha. Definitely keep watching it. It's worthwhile.

I'm going to support those here and say that yeah, the first few episodes weren't so great, but it's really picked up. And I don't think it's any harder to follow than any other show on the CW, haha.

The pilot was meh but, I don't know I only really used to watch the show for Ian and everything. I'm really excited to see Lauren in a role though on the CW again, even if it's not Bela cuz Bela is well she's love and too awesome.

Like I said I watched at the beginning for Ian and than I got drawn in because well the Vampire Diairies is nothing like Twilight or any other teenage vampire fandom thing, it's kinda hard to explain.

Anyway I'm excited as I said before to see Lauren maybe having some intense love/hate scenes with Ian cuz these two people are just so gorgeous.
