Summary: For the record, a few things needed to be known.
Author’s Note: Part of my Thinking of You series. Set sometime after “The Fine Line Between Holding On and Letting Go,” but there is probably going to be some stuff that goes in before this. This begged to be done from Hardison’s POV, but given that I’ve never written from Hardison’s POV before … I hope I did him justice.
Disclaimer: I don’t own. They belong to Kripke and Devlin. I’m just borrowing and will put everything back where I found it.

For the record, a few things needed to be known.

First: Hardison was not opposed to Eliot being happy. A happy Eliot was an Eliot that was easier to deal with, and if that happiness happened to coming from Eliot getting laid, all the better for him. The time that Eliot had Jo to go home to was, like, the high point of Eliot and Hardison’s working relationship. There were no threats, no getting his ass kicked by Parker at Eliot’s request—it was all good. He had absolutely no complaints.

Second: Hardison liked Jo. She was a hustler, definitely, but she was a good person, and a good friend. On top of that, she was good for Eliot. She wasn’t afraid to put him in his place, and Hardison happened to be of the opinion that Eliot needed a woman to put him in his place every once in a while. It kept that ego of his in check. It also gave Eliot something to do beyond the five of them, and that was a good thing to.

Third: He saw what losing Jo did to Eliot. The boy became downright melancholy. Even if the words were never exchanged, Hardison knew love when he saw it, and losing that love the way he lost Jo—not cool, man. Eliot didn’t exactly manage it in the healthiest way either—he still lived in her place, with her stuff everywhere, and then there was that whole thing with Kaye Lynn, and—well, leave it to say that Hardison was concerned.

And ‘concerned’ may have been putting it lightly.

Differences aside, Eliot was his friend, and Hardison helped him through it as much as a hacker could. He had constant searches going for her name on reports, any kind of information he could get he found, just trying to give the man as much closure as possible. Eventually Eliot went from depressed-surly to regular-surly, and they all started to move on with their lives. It had been three years since that whole mess had gone down, and the world had somehow stabilized and for the most part become a slightly less dangerous place.

Up until about a week ago.

Eliot started to be happy again. And not just his usual one-night-stand kind of happy. He was, dare Hardison say it, Jo happy, and while he wasn’t sure who the girl was but when he met her, he was prepared to shake her damn hand. Even Sophie was starting to pick up on it, but none of her pestering seemed to be getting her anywhere. Normally Eliot was more than willing to brag about his conquests—names edited to protect the guilty—but for this he was remaining uncharacteristically tight-lipped. The rest of the team was starting to get frustrated. Then, Hardison had an opportunity. Eliot had invited him over for dinner to talk to him about something, and he was sure that he would get an answer out of him. See, Eliot confided in him. He trusted him. He knew that Hardison could handle the information.

What Eliot actually asked him? So not what Hardison expected.

“You … you want me to what?”

Eliot paused in his chopping and dicing, to look up at him with a glare. “You’ve made covers that are solid enough to get them picked for freakin’ jury duty. Who says you can’t do this?”

“Yeah, Eliot, I’ve done that—with people who are still alive.” He couldn’t see his own face at the moment, but he was sure that his face was somewhere in the realm of horror and confusion and just flat out ‘I do not know how to deal with this.’ “Eliot. Don’t you think you’re holding on a little too hard here? I mean, I’m a magician when it comes to the internet, but I can’t raise the dead. First of all—people can’t do that, and even if they could, we’re talking like, major zombie Apocalypse all up in here. I’m not gonna be the one to start the zombie Apocalypse, alright? You can’t make me do it.”

Eliot gave him a look that usually came right before he threatened to punch him. “I’m not askin’ you to start a zombie Apocalypse, Hardison.”

“Then what are you askin’ me to do, here? Because—not to be too picky? But I’m pretty sure you just asked me if I could reactivate your dead ex-girlfriend’s life.” Hardison let out a slow sigh, before looking back at him. “She’s dead, Eliot. You gotta start lettin’ go, man.”

Eliot gave him a long look, up until Hardison heard the bedroom door open, and he turned towards the sound. The short blond standing there flashed him a bright smile, before moving closer to them, moving to stand next to Eliot. “Hey, Hardison. Long time, no see.”

If Hardison hadn’t been in a state of total shock, he might have noticed that the accent of the blond was decidedly not that of a Tennessee native and more like that of the girl who’d been gone for three years, but he was too busy trying to keep his jaw up off the floor. “Kaye Lynn, man? Your trying to turn Kaye Lynn into Jo?”

The blond blinked for a moment, before tipping her head to the side to look at Eliot. “Who’s Kaye Lynn?”

Eliot looked sheepish for a moment, not looking at the woman standing next to him. “It’s … a long story. I’ll tell you later.”

“Uh-huh.”

Deny all he wanted, Hardison knew that tone, and he knew that there was only one woman who could pull it off. Consider his mind officially blown. “Jo?”

“Yeah,” Jo said with a nod and an amused smile. “That’s me.”

“How … how did this happen?”

“Trust me when I say that you really don’t want to know,” Eliot supplied. “Trust me. I wish I didn’t.”

“What we need to know is if you can do it?” Jo asked, looking up at him with wide eyes. “I mean, as far as the world’s concerned, I’m dead, and I can’t stay cooped up in this apartment for the rest of my life. I need something to do all day. I need to be able to drive.”

Hardison just continued to stare. He heard the words and understood that he needed to answer them, but he couldn’t seem to snap himself out of it. He still couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Jo watched him back awkwardly, before letting out a slow breath.

“Hardison?”

“Uh.” He finally managed to shake himself out of it, before flashing her a wide smile. “Yeah. Yeah, I can definitely try and see what I can do.”

Jo let out a happy sound that could have been a squeal before running around the counter and throwing her arms around his neck. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” She pushed herself up on her toes, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Seriously, if you pull this off? I will owe you one forever.”

“Eh, well you know—I’m just doin’ what I do,” Hardison said with a smile as he looked back at her. “So long as you’re not, you know—a zombie.”

She laughed. “No, not a zombie. I promise.” She sighed for a moment before gesturing to the table. “C’mon—have a seat, and I’ll fill you in.”

Hardison nodded before following her out. “Lead the way.”

I fell in love with this ship (even more so) after watching "The Studio Job" (multiply times) and still watching

is this the last one in the series or are you planning to write anymore

now all we need now is for Eliot/Jo to go hunting

I am planning on writing some more, I just ... hit a bit of a hitch with my muse as of late. I'm slowly but surely starting to get back to it.
