darkmagic_luvr for the
spn_het_love Comment-Fic Meme, because she’s the only one who I would write a crossover for in a fandom I don’t know as well as I should. Thanks to
lollobrigida for tweaking my Oliver voice.
Disclaimer: I don’t own. I’m just borrowing and will put everything back where I found it.
She would be the first to admit that this case had her far more curious about Oliver Queen than she would normally like to be.
He knew what this thing could do. He had seen the effects first hand, and yet he was analyzing it, not trying to distance himself from it. He was pouring research and development into something that couldn’t be explained, and was better off destroyed if it weren’t for people having that pesky need to get rid of each other for whatever reason. Normally, Bela would do everything in her power to distance herself from something like that—unless the proper price came along, of course. This happened to be one of those times.
“It’s quite beautiful,” she commented, looking over the glass case where the amulet was being kept. “Where did you get it?”
“I found it, actually,” he replied, glancing over his shoulder as he poured them a drink. “In a village near San Palo. According to the locals, the whole village had burned down over night, and that was the only thing that survived.” He handed her one of the glasses, before he continued. “In fact, it’s said that this amulet is so strong, it could kill the Devil.”
“Really?” she said, eyebrows up as she pretended to be impressed. She pushed her fake glasses up the bridge of her nose as she looked up at him. “How long have you been trying to figure it out?”
“A few months now,” he said with a nod. “It’s not giving off any radiation, or any other scientifically measured sign, so we still don’t know how it works, but I’m sure the rest of you brilliant science types can figure it out.” He flashed her a smile, and she ducked her head a bit, playing along with the character and trying not to blow her cover. It had taken her so long just to get here, she wasn’t about to screw it up now by flirting with the man in charge. Especially when it was a job she wasn’t doing for money.
Contrary to popular belief, Bela Talbot wasn’t immune to the fact that the world was ending. And she did, as far as she was concerned, owe Dean and Castiel this. It was them that had gotten her out of Hell in the first place, so the least she could do is track down this amulet and get it into their hands. Hopefully this would stop Lucifer if everything else they’d tried haven’t. The only problem was breaking into a scientific facility in order to find out where they kept said amulet took a lot more than stealing blueprints and getting a location. Oliver Queen was careful—he kept the things he was very interested in very close to the vest.
Faked credentials she could do, but faking actual expertise was another thing entirely. She had to know every answer to what he was looking for before he even bothered to ask them, but after a good deal of studying and embellishing on what she already knew, she got her foot in the door. A few more weeks of work that would get the boss’s attention, and she was standing in the trophy room, so to speak. Now it was just a matter of getting the amulet out without triggering it or the security system. Therein was the challenge, and that was what made this part of the end of the world fun.
“Well, we’ll do our best,” she said with a nod, readjusting her glasses. She studied the case for a moment before glancing back at him. “I am allowed to take it out, yes? I really can’t study it otherwise.”
“No, of course.” He moved around her to punch in the codes to unlock the case, and she was thinking that this was far, far too easy. She reached for a pair of latex gloves and slipped them on, adding that layer between the amulet and her skin, before reaching for it and moving it over to the examination table.
“The stones are very beautiful. Do you know if they’re able to be separated from the metal itself?”
“No,” Oliver shook his head. “I’ve been told that they’re pretty firmly in there.” She felt him lean over her, off to the side so that he could see, but still far closer than he normally should be. “One of the other scientists thinks that the stones were embedded in the metal with a great deal of force, which makes me think that these green stones here? Are meteor rocks.”
She turned to glance at him, raising an eyebrow. “Meteor rocks?”
“There was a meteor shower about twenty years back now. There were these crystals embedded in the rock that had interesting, almost radioactive properties.”
“Oh,” she paused, before shaking her head as one hand slipped into the pocket of her lab coat, dipping her fingers into the sedative in her pocket, letting the powder brush against her fingers. All she needed was a little skin contact, and she had a clean escape. It was just a matter of waiting for the opportune moment. “This is much older than that. Early third century, actually—and the stones weren’t added after.”
“Huh,” he said, starting to lean closer, and reaching one hand towards the stones and her hand automatically snapped out to grab it, wrapping gloved fingers around his wrist.
“I wouldn’t do that,” she said softly. “It’s rumored that the amulet’s power is transmitted by touch.”
“Oh.” There was only a second’s pause, before he straightened, his eyes narrowing. “How would you—” And then the drugs started to take effect. “—You’re good—” Bela shifted her grip on his body, using herself to brace him as she slowly lowered him down to the ground.
“Sorry, Oliver. But someone needs this more than you do.” And hopefully this would work, and they would survive long enough for her to apologize.
For the drugging, at least.
