Booth/Buffy - So. Vampires.

Fandom: Bones/Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Title: So. Vampires.
Author: [livejournal.com profile] iluvroadrunner6
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Seeley Booth/Buffy Summers, Parker Booth, Xander Harris, mentions of Angel/Buffy.
[livejournal.com profile] fic_variations Prompt: fever (#1)
Content Warning: N/A
Summary: So. This was awkward.
Author’s Note: A bunny that’s probably been done before, but Buffy wouldn’t let it go. And I think Parker is a little older here than he currently is in canon, so—future fic, yes?
Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy or Bones. I’m just borrowing and will put everything back where I found it.

So. This was awkward.

This was really awkward, actually. Because her first reaction had been to call him “Angel” even though the reaction he was having to the vamps surrounding him was clearly indicating that he wasn’t. He hadn’t gotten around to questioning her about the whole “Angel” thing as of yet, and as far as she was concerned, she was really hoping she wouldn’t have to explain that. Digging into the whole ‘he’s my undead two hundred year-old plus ex-boyfriend’ would be way too much baggage for this particular conversation, and she didn’t feel like dumping that on this poor guy quite yet.

“You’re like some kind of superhero!”

Especially in front of his kid.

“Well, I wouldn’t say that,” she said with a bit of a laugh as she plopped down, Indian-style, in front of Parker. The two of them were sitting on the floor of his dad’s apartment, while Xander was patching up the bite marks on Seeley’s neck. “I just know how to kick a whole lot of butt.”

“Yeah, but you threw that vampire into wall like it was nothing!”

“Whoa, whoa—slow down buddy,” Not-Angel, or ‘Seeley’ as he had identified himself, stammered with a bit of a nervous laugh. “We don’t know that that guy was a vampire.”

“But he turned to dust, Dad! What kind of people can do that?”

Seeley looked up at her, and Buffy bit her lip, trying to figure out the best way to break it to him. He looked a little incredulous at first, before reaching down and placing his hands over Parker’s ears. “Are you telling me that guy really was a vampire?”

“Kinda?” Buffy said with a bit of an awkward pause. “Sorry?”

Seeley blinked at her for a moment, before Xander sighed, and reached for Parker’s hand. “Parker, buddy, why don’t you and me go and look at those awesome army men over there, huh? Let Buffy and your dad talk.”

The kid agreed to that quickly enough and soon Xander and Parker were out of the room, leaving Buffy and Seeley alone. Seeley looked back at her after a moment, before rubbing his thigh with one hand while the other came up to touch the puncture wounds gently. There was still a bit of disbelief on his face as he spoke again, but Buffy could see that some of it was starting to sink in.

“So. Vampires.”

“Yup,” she sighed, pushing herself up from her feet and moving to sit next to him. “Vampires.”

“Are they all that—fangy?”

She laughed. “Afraid so. Fangs do kind of come with the gig.”

“Right.” There was a pause as she settled into the seat, focusing on his lap, and then looking up and over at her. As he did, she tried not to see Angel, even though there was a way he would say things, that would just send her brain right back there, and she was doing her best to shake it off. “And you are?”

“A vampire Slayer,” she clarified. “One of a select group of girls who were mystically gifted to fight vampires, demons and everything else that’s out there.”

“Sounds pretty dangerous.”

“No more dangerous than what you do. FBI, right?”

“Yeah, yeah,” he sighed, pushing up from the chair and walking towards the doorway so that he could look out at where Parker and Xander were sitting. “That’s me. Mister FBI who didn’t even realize that vampires were real and nearly got myself and my son killed.”

Buffy watched him for a moment, before pushing up and following him, placing a hand on his shoulder lightly. His shoulder was warm, which was such a contrast to his doppelganger, and it wasn’t—bad, either. “You didn’t know. Flying under the radar is how they operate. This wasn’t your fault, Seeley.”

He turned back to face her again, his hand turning up to brace her elbow lightly before nodding. “Yeah. You’re probably right.” He moved away from her again, walking towards the window and rubbing the back of his neck, before turning back to her again. “Are you sure that this is real? And not some weird, fever induced dream I happen to be having?”

“Well, unless we’re having the same dream, I seriously doubt it.”

“Eh,” he said with a bit of a shrug. “So how did you wind up with this gig anyway?”

“Oh, you don’t want to hear about that,” she said with a bit of a laugh as she started to approach him again. “Some lame-o story about destiny and being the Chosen One—let’s just say that it’s a very long story.”

“I will take that,” he nodded, looking back at her for a moment, and she couldn’t help but freeze when their eyes met. For one brief, split second, it was like she was looking at him, but he was warm and strong and he had a heartbeat, and it was Angel, but she knew it wasn’t. He was never going to be, and Buffy wasn’t sure if that was a good thing that made her incredibly masochistic, or a bad thing that still made her incredibly masochistic.

Either way—Buffy wanted to make it out of this encounter without doing a bad, bad thing. So that involved a bit of throat clearing and backing away slowly.

“Anyway, I should go. Me and Xander should be getting back, and I think we’ve intruded on you and Parker enough.”

“No, right. That’s probably a good idea.” He gave her a bit of a smile, sliding his hands in his pockets. “I don’t know if I actually managed to say this, but thanks, Buffy. Really.”

“No problem,” she said, returning the smile. “It’s what I do.” She started to turn around again, and Seeley’s hand came up stopping her before she could.

“Wait, one more thing.”

“Yeah?” she asked, turning around again and waiting for him to respond.

“Who’s Angel?”

Oh boy.

Hahahahaha. Yes. Who is Angel.

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Heee -- it was the inevitable question.

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Most definitely.

I've seen a similar story wherein Booth is actually Angel post-Shanshu who doesn't recognize Buffy at all. I don't know if it was ever finished but it was...interesting.

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. That is interesting. What I was thinking here, was that he's somewhat related to Angel. Liam did get around in his heyday after all.

*snicker* I just reread a story similar to that idea, too...except Angel was related to everyone in the cast of BtVS/AtS except Dawn and Buffy. :D

Matt wrote a lot of interesting stories in his heyday. :D

love. so much love for this.

now i'm beginning to wonder; since angel and booth look the same (hem, hem), is it possible that booth is related to angel -- ie, that liam [angel's name before he was turned] got some irish lass pregnant before darla made him vampire, and that booth is his great-great-great... well, you get it. ;P

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
LOL That actually was my original line of thinking when I was writing this. Because given Liam's track record an accident could have definitely happened.

I'm glad you liked it.

Please tell me you're going to definitely write four more awesome fics like this one in the same AU?

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2010-01-05 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure? Because my claim was just for the general Buffyverse, but I might? I find the idea kind of intriguing.

I'm glad you liked it.
