Sophia stared at hallway in front of the headmaster’s office, looking probably more depressed then should really be warranted. It was only a two day suspension. Michael had gotten much worse punishments from the same administrators, and he survived just fine. That wasn’t really comforting Sophia much, however, as she was supposed to be the good one. She was the kid who got the good grades and never got into trouble, and hadn’t learned from Michael’s bad example.
Not that Michael had left a particularly bad example—whenever he butted heads with authority, it was for good reason—but still. She wasn’t supposed to be the one that made waves. She was supposed to be the one that gloated. Having it be the other way around was just—weird.
When she saw her brother round the corner, suit jacket in hand and shirt pulled out of his pants. He paused for a moment, holding up his hands in front of him like he was framing a shot for a camera. “Hold on—I want to savor this.”
“Michael,” she sighed, trying to muster the energy to roll her eyes. “Leave it alone.”
“Oh, come on, you’re supposed to be the good kid. I think I should be allowed to enjoy the fact that I was the good kid for once.” He gave his sister a grin, before walking over to drop into the seat next to her. “What happened?”
“Nothing. Just leave it alone.”
“Soph, you got suspended for two days. Something pretty big had to have happened.”
She looked away from him, crossing her arms in front of her chest. “I might have kicked Walter Matherson in the balls.”
Michael looked stunned. In fact, he turned and stared at her in shock for a moment, before raising an eyebrow. “You did what?”
“Please don’t make me say that again,” Sophia said sheepishly, a blush crossing her face. “I’m not exactly proud of it.”
“Why the hell would you do something like that?” he said, giving her a bit of a look.
“Because—he wouldn’t leave me alone,” she sighed softly. “He kept saying things, and you can only ignore that stuff for so long, you know?”
Michael sighed slightly, before wrapping an arm around his sister’s shoulders. “Congratulations little sister. You officially have the Winchester-Talbot temper.”
She snorted slightly at that, before leaning into her brother slightly. “Not sure if I should be proud of that.”
“Are you kidding? I was starting to wonder if you were adopted.”
“Shut up,” she sighed, shoving him off her gently, before starting to get up. “Can we go home now?”
“Yeah, sure,” he nodded, getting up and following her. “Let’s go home.”

Sophia was starting to get a hang on this whole suspension thing. True, she’d spent the day working on the research project that was due in a few weeks, but she was less worried about it’s spot on her permanent record than she had been earlier. She was still her father’s daughter, and if he could get a full ride to Stanford while changing schools every two weeks, she could at least get into a great college with a two day suspension on her permanent record.
She was sprawled out on the couch, flipping through the channels on the television when her brother came in from school his shirt mussed and dirty, sporting a darkening black eye. She sat up with a shot when she saw him, eyes wide with worry. “What happened?”
“Walter Matherson is a douchebag, and you were right to kick him in the balls,” Michael replied, moving over to sit down next to her on the couch. “That’s all I’m going to say on the matter.”
She pushed herself up slightly, looking at him for a moment before leaning in closer and wrapping her arms around his brother’s neck pulling him in for a warm hug. She pulled back after a moment, before looking down at him. “Did you get suspended too?”
“No. I’ve learned that it’s more important to bide your time and pick the fight once you’re off school grounds.”
“Good. Cuz Mom would have killed—” Her voice trailed off slightly as Bela came around the corner, phone to her ear and a not pleased look on her face.
“I’m terribly sorry to hear that Mr. Matherson,” Bela sighed, crossing her arms in front of her chest. “A broken jaw, you say?”
“You’re so dead,” Sophia sighed, clapping her brother on the back before bolting for her room. Michael stared at his sisters retreating back, before shouting after her.
“Thanks, little sister. Thanks a lot.”
