Castiel - A Bomb Exploded and Everyone Died
Fandom: Supernatural/Get Smart
Title: A Bomb Exploded and Everyone Died
Author:
iluvroadrunner6
Rating: PG / FRK
Characters: Castiel, Max, Robbie and Angela Winchester, Dean Winchester/Agent 99 (Beth), Sam Winchester
Content Warning: Very vague spoilers for season 4, AU
Summary: Really, the best babysitter is one of the angelic variety.
Author’s Note: My first fic for
spawnfic_tues! This is set in a personal storyline that I’m writing with
defy_n_gravity, and post-end of series, obviously.
Disclaimer: If you recognize it, I don’t own it. Supernatural belongs to Kripke and the CW, and Get Smart belongs to Mel Brooks and Warner Brothers. However, the kids belong to me and
defy_n_gravity, so please don’t steal them.
“Maddie’s at a sleepover for the weekend, so you don’t have to worry about her, but all the other kids are here. Max is allergic to peanuts, Angie eats cookies like they’re her job but she can only have two, and they’re not allowed to have sugar an hour before bedtime, which is at nine. Sam should be here by then, though, so you shouldn’t have to worry about that. You know how to reach me if there’s a problem. Thanks again, dude.”
Dean handed a small blond girl to the angel in front of him, before clasping him on the shoulder and giving him a grin. Castiel just stared quietly at Angie for a moment, before looking over at Dean in confusion.
“Dean, when I said that if you needed me for any reason—”
“Yeah, yeah, I know, that didn’t include babysitting, but Sam’s got some stuff to take care of with Alice and the baby, and the local babysitter isn’t around. Besides, who safer to leave my children with than an angel of the Lord, right?”
At this, Castiel’s lips pressed into a thin line and he gave Dean a look. “I’m not a babysitting service, Dean. When I said that—”
“I know, I know. Not what you meant. But let’s face it, Cas. You owe me. I saved the world once, remember?”
The angel sighed heavily, still holding the squirming three year-old at arm’s length, before replying. “Fine. How long until your brother arrives?”
“Just a couple hours, tops. I promise.” Dean gave him a grin, before turning and heading towards the door, picking up his and Beth’s bags, before heading for the door. “See you guys at the end of the weekend!”
“Bye,” came the half-hearted response from the twin boys, lying on their stomachs on the floor in front of the TV. Max and Robbie didn’t even look up as the Impala roared out of the driveway, and Castiel just watched them for a moment, before looking over at the girl still squirming in his hands.
“Cookie!” she said with a slight giggle, before the angel sighed, placing her down on the ground and starting to lead her back towards the kitchen. He was already telling that this was going to be a long afternoon.

“So are you really an angel?”
“Of course, he’s an angel. Dad said he was an angel.”
“Yeah, and Dad also thinks he’s Batman. You can’t believe everything Dad says, doofus.”
Castiel just sighed heavily, before responding to the boy’s question. Neither of the twins had looked away from the television, not even to look at each other. “Yes, I am an angel.”
“Dad also said you were a dick.”
“Dude, you’re not supposed to say that.”
“Dad says it all the time!”
“Yeah, but every time he does, Mom gets this look on her face like she’s gonna shoot him or something.”
“So?”
“So, that means you’re not supposed to say it.”
One of them snorted. “Whatever. Is it true?”
Castiel closed his eyes, before replying again. “Your father and I don’t exactly see things in quite the same way.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means that he’s a dick, stupid.”
“Dude! You’re not supposed to—”
“I know, I know! I’m just saying that he’s saying that Dad was right.”
“That wasn’t what he was saying. He was saying that he and Dad don’t always agree on everything. There’s a difference.”
“Have you ever tried not agreeing with Dad?”
“Whatever.”
Castiel turned to look out the window, trying to see if there was any sign of Sam, but he was nowhere to be found. The twins attention, however, seemed to be taken off him for the time being, which was a bit of a respite, and they went back to arguing about something between themselves over their video game. A few minutes later, Angie wandered her way into the room, a large, brightly colored book on her hand that showed a picture of a castle and a sunset.
“Read me a story, pease?” she asked, looking up at Castiel with big eyes.
The angel hesitated for a moment, before glancing back at her brothers. “I’m not sure that I’m the best one to—”
“Peeeeeeeeease?” Angie whined, her eyes getting bigger and adding in a bit of a pout. Castiel sighed softly, again, before nodding and taking the book from her.
“Alright.”
“Yay!” she said cheerfully before pushing herself up onto the couch next to him, sliding into his lap and pulling open the book. Castiel looked a bit flustered about the whole situation, but took a breath, and started to read the book over her shoulder.
“Once upon a time, there lived a princess in a magical kingdom—”
“Who built a bomb that exploded and everyone died.”
“Maaaaaaaax,” Angie whined, shooting her brother a look. “That’s not how it goes.”
“Yes, it is,” Max replied, hitting pause on the game before pushing himself up off the floor for the first time since Castiel had arrived.
“No, it’s not,” she pouted, watching him as he came over and placed his finger along the text he knew his sister couldn’t read.
“Yes, it is. Once upon a time there lived a princess in a magical kingdom who built a bomb that exploded and everyone died.”
“No, it’s not! Read it the right way!”
“I am reading it the right way! Robbie, am I not reading it the right way?”
“Lemme see,” Robbie replied, tilting his head back so that he could see the book. “Once upon a time—magical princess—bomb explodes, everybody dies. Yup. Sounds about right.”
“No, no, no, no, no!” And with that last ‘no’ came a slight wail and tears. Castiel suddenly had a crying three year-old in his lap and he had no idea what to do with it. But he could, at least, rectify what was upsetting her.
“Actually, that’s not what it says.”
Angie looked up at him, face red and wet with tears. “It’s not?” she sniffled.
“No.”
“See?” she said, glaring back at her brothers. “And he’s an angel! He hasta tell the truth.”
Both twins shot Castiel a look that he was relatively certain wasn’t a happy one. In fact, he had received that look from their father on several occasions when he was less than pleased about things that were happening.
“Dude, it was just a joke.”
“God, you’re such a killjoy.”
They both turned back to the video game, and Angie beamed at him with a bright smile, before settling back in his lap more. “Start again, pease?”
Castiel took a deep breath, before turning back to the page to what he was reading. “Once upon a time, there was a princess in a magical kingdom—”

Sam was at least an hour later than he was supposed to be. When he did arrive, however, it was with an apologetic smile in the angel’s direction, especially when he saw the exasperated look on Castiel’s face. “Sorry that took so long, Cas. The doctor’s office took longer than we thought.”
The angel just nodded, before glancing over at the twins, who were still on their stomach playing video games. Angie was curled up in a ball on the couch, fast asleep with one hand holding a death grip on Castiel’s tie. The angel just looked up at Sam with a heavy sigh.
“I understand. But I am afraid that Angela seems to have—”
“I got it,” Sam laughed, before reaching over and tickling the little girl’s ribs slightly, getting her to stir a bit.
“Uncle Sam,” she murmured, rubbing her eyes after letting go of the tie. “I was sleeping.”
“I know, sweetie,” Sam smirked, before scooping her up off the couch and letting her curl into his shoulder. Once she was settled in again, he turned back to Castiel with a small smile. “Thanks again, dude. You really helped us out.”
“Right,” Castiel nodded as he stood up. “Will you let Dean know that he can consider whatever debt I owe him, paid?”
Sam laughed again, before nodding as he walked the angel to the door. “Yeah. I can do that.”
