Everworld Reference Post Part 2: What IS Mine

ok, this post was going to have the new characters as well, but...they didn't want to cooperate. all they wanted to do was whine and complain and say why do you have to explain us, just write us and they'll get it, gosh...so instead of character insight, you get brief description. sorry.

What's written below are the tweaks i've made to Applegate's Universe. The next cut down are going to be the new characters.

I’m setting this section of the crossover five years after Senna’s death and David, Christopher, Jalil, and April fully crossed over. That gives it some time for the field to be leveled a bit, maybe have more guns on the side of the good guys. But the damage has definitely been done. There’ve been a lot of casualties on both sides, and Everworld has basically been turned into a battle field.

I’m also adding the tweak that there was a different gateway witch, one not related to Senna. Senna’s mother was a gateway witch as well, but I highly doubt that Brigid, the goddess who, in essence created the frame work of Everworld, created only one family line for a gateway witch. While the rest of the gods are irrational and idiotic, for the most part, Brigid actually seems to play things smarter than the rest of them, and since she exists in both worlds, she can make sure things are balanced. Anyway, original point. This tweak is going to be set about fifteen years before present, at the end of a battle with Eris, the Greek goddess of chaos and destruction.

Eris had been locked in a constant feud with Camulos, the Celtic god of war, which came to a head when Eris lured one of his favorite warriors, a knight by the name of Dalavan, and lured him out to sea for some battle never to be seen again. Assuming that the man had drowned, Camulos retaliated by manipulating Brigid’s ablities to banish Eris’s lover, a mortal named Angelous, back to the Old World. That was when their feud turned from them playing what the gods considered practically jokes on each other to a full out war between them and their supporters.

On Camulos’s side he had tribes of people spread out through the Celtic lands. Each of them had their own leader with their own special abilities. In order to persuade some of them to fight for him, however, he had to bribe them, due to tribal conflicts, and just general distrust. The leaders were given the offer, when the battle was over, the go back to the Old World, and have some what of a semblance of a normal life, life expectancy (in Everworld, you don’t die naturally of old age, generally, especially if you’re a figure of prominence), etc. There were ten tribes involved, and when the battle was over and they won, they were given their own gateway witch, their names changed to fit in with the modern day society, as well as histories and families, so it didn’t look as though they were appearing out of nowhere.

After they all crossed over, they went their separate ways, and haven’t spoken to each other in about fifteen years. Eris was also stripped of her powers and banished to the Old World, where she would be forced to wander until the world ended. And that’s where the story’s going to pick up.

Specific ages for these characters are unknown, because there isn't really a concept of time in Everworld, and because of that, they aren't really sure where one year ends and a new one begins. Also, with the exception of Melinda, none of their extra abilites work outside of Everworld. Only in Everworld itself.

Melinda Fitzgerald: Gateway Witch, looks about late twenties, early thirties. Very curly brown hair, green eyes, about five-seven in height. Professor of mythology and philosphy at Princeton University. Wears reading glasses when dealing with computers, but doesn't really need them, uses them to keep up appearances. Doesn't have many friends/contacts. Lives alone.

Cassie Brady: Eris's alias in the Old World. looks like a young woman in her early thirties. Very beautiful; long wavy brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin. About five-nine in height. Travels a lot, doesn't really settle anywhere for long. No working skills, tends to make money through modelling or commercials, but nothing really long lasting. Can be cold and unresponsive, generally doesn't like people unless there's something they can do for her.

Caroline Gaynor: can create/manipulate fire. about late twenties. Black hair, hazel eyes, light skin. About five four in height. Quick-tempered, tends to get into arguments easily. managing partner of a large busniess in Atlanta, Georgia. Tends to make easy friends with people, but also tends to get into arguments fairly easily as well. Acts pretty quickly on sexual and aggressive impulses. Lives alone, but tends not to sleep alone.

Christie Henderson: manipulates light. about late twenties. Messy, curly dark hair, dark eyes, tan skin. About five four as well. Extremely loyal, uneasy about leaving Everworld because she felt like she was abandoning them. Can be reserved, but can be outgoing if she knows you well. Does freelance photography for a local magazine in Los Angeles. Lives with a roommate who is out of town frequently on business, and a dog.

Rowan Toth: manipulates water. early to mid-thirties. Handsome; long blond hair, blue eyes. About six feet tall. Easy going relaxed. Tends not to take things too seriously. Works for the Sea World in Orlando as one of the dolphin trainers. Lives with roommate Rachel Romano.

Rachel Romano: can turn invisible. late twenties. Blond hair, green eyes. About five two. She doesn't speak. Fluent in American Sign Language, but prefers to play charades. Can be overly perky, bouncy, etc. Tends to abuse Ryan Wolfe. Works as a stenographer for the Miami Dade Courthouse. Lives with Rowan Toth.

Patrick Lockhart: manipulates the ground. mid to late thirties. Brown hair, green eyes. About six-two. Is often used as Melinda Fitzgerald's brother when a family contact is required, even though he lives halfway across the country. Stoic, not very emotional. Works as a defense attorney, and is on fast track to senior partner. Lives in Houston with fiancée and two cats.

Christian Taylor: magician/druid. mid thirties. Handsome; dark hair, light eyes. about five-ten. Flirtatious and friendly. Gets along very well with the opposite sex. Works as a slight of hand magician in Central Park. Rents a small studio apartment, and lives alone, but again, like in the case with Caroline, tends not to sleep alone.

Catherine Parker: manipulates air. early thirties. Classic beauty; wavy reddish brown hair, light eyes. about five-five. Can be very distant and aloof, part of the arrogance that carried over from when she was in Everworld. Works as a jazz singer. Travels a lot, so no set place of residence, but tends to stay in Las Vegas longer than anywhere else. Good friends with Greg Sanders.

Danny Messer: good with weaponry, metal work, etc. For unexplained reasons, he practically led the battle against Eris and the Greeks. Tends to be emotional, over-tempermental, etc. Works as an NYPD detective in New York City. Lives alone, but is Melinda Fitzgerald's emergency contact, if needed (which isn't often).

Greg Sanders: super strength. Formerly a member of the a working class group who were practically enslaved by a higher class group, led by Catherine Parker. So, technically, Greg and Catherine shouldn't get along, but they do. Lives alone in Las Vegas, the exception being when Catherine is in town, and she stays with him.

Ryan Wolfe: Ryan's formerly a member of an outcasted group who was exorcised for their ability to change into a wolf. With that transformation came the wolf mentality, and drives, making them unpredictable and a liability. When he came to the Old World, the loss of those drives became his minor OCD, which still effects him to this day. Lives alone in Miami, but is repeatedly pestered by Rachel Romano.

and that's about it.

Melinda? Hee. Sorry, I don't see my name much so I tend to get excited when I do.

melinda...i actually really like that name. and it seemed like a very magical kind of name to have, so it really fit her. i'm glad you're excited.

Never really thought of it as a magical name, but I like that. It does seem to fit her and it means "dark and gentle" in Greek.
