A Rant

But before the rant, a note: I really don't get the hype about Sex and the City. Just saying. I mean, it's all well and good that other people like it, but -- I just don't see the big deal.

This PSA, brought to you by the fact that I work in a movie theater, and I've just gotten home from working the midnight showing of Sex and the City (as well as The Strangers, but well -- there were only ten people in that one). I don't know why it existed.

But then again, I don't like most midnight showings -- See my Angry Harry Potter letters from last summer.

Anywhoo, onto the rant...

Dear Manager Referenced in Harry Potter Letters (the first one),

Thank you for giving me off tomorrow. I would have been very upset if I had to work an opening shift tomorrow after not getting home till 1:45 AM this morning. Granted, opening was only 10:30, however, it's still the thought that counts.

However, NOT COOL with the assigning me the midnight opening shift TWO WEEKS IN A FREAKIN' ROW. And for the movies in question? Home office is an idiot but that's not the point (they get a separate letter) the point is -- TWO WEEKS IN A ROW?!?!?! Grrrrrr -- you really do hate me, don't you?

If you make me work Harry Potter again, I'll start plotting my evil revenge. And I don't even know if we're due for a Harry Potter movie this summer.

No Love at the Moment,
Me.

Dear Home Office,

You're idiots.

I can understand (somewhat) having a midnight showing for Don't Mess with the Zohan. Kind of. I mean, I get it's Adam Sandler, and he's usually a big money maker, but I don't think the movies going to be that big of a blockbuster to warrant a midnight showing. But anyway I kind of see the point. That's not what I'm angry about.

Please tell me why we're having a midnight showing for KUNG FU FREAKIN' PANDA. It is opening on a THURSDAY NIGHT, at MIDNIGHT, which also happens to be a SCHOOL NIGHT. You know, for all the KIDS who are going to want to go see that movie. How do you expect to make any money off of that? I could understand during the summer, but I hate to break it to you, it AIN'T SUMMER YET.

No Love at All,
Me.

I will get to comments and things tomorrow. I'm too tired now -- I just wanted to get this out before I forgot it all.

Kung-Fu Panda looked REALLY freakin' stupid. Actually, I think this showing of Indy was the only time I've seen so many previews with NO movies I'd want to see.

I had plans not to see the movie prior to finding out I'd be working a midnight show, (Poorly placed ad in the middle of Supernatural made me go GRRRRRR) but now I'm really not inclined to give it some of my free time. Not happening.

A fairly large amount of SATC fans have latched onto the girls as role models, and from what I can tell from the series... there's better, stronger female role models than those four. Also living in NYC, I find it to be a bit of a problem to not be a fan. Cosmopolitans please go bye-bye.

There was this quote once about Carrie being a bad role model, but I can't find it now. I should try...

Anyhoo -- yes. Just because Carrie is in love with her shoes, doesn't make her a good role model. Sorry.

Huh, that should be an interesting read.

Exactly.

Kung Fu Panda at midnight?
Really?

Because honestly, there's a top quality movie for ya.

tsk tsk society.

Society's being stupid. It's ridiculous.

I am completely with you on SATC. I'm not going to see it; I don't get the hype.

Really, the only thing I've been to at midnight in the past two years was James Bond, and it's the only thing I'm likely to see at midnight again (because only 1 theatre here does midnight showings, and NO ONE knows about them).

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, we have theaters who do midnight showings all over the place. And this seems to be the theater's new plan for the summer -- to have a midnight showing every week.

I'm pretty sure we're having one for Ed Norton's Hulk in two weeks as well.

I hear ya. I always hated damn midnight showings. Especially working projection or management because then I had to wait for eeeeeveryone to clear out. Suck. Yea...Return of the King? I hated life that night.

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh God -- I would have hated working the midnight for RotK. Yikes.

[identity profile] ladyofbrileith.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I would hate to have to work a midnight showing. Hell, I can barely stand going to them. I do once in an while, but that is really once in a very long while.

SATC...I dunno about the hype, really, except fun and girly? I mean, I've seen reruns on TBS or TNT or wherever it's played, but I've never seen the "real" eps. I am, however, taking the afternoon off work because one of my friends was addicted to it like I am to Heroes and Alias and she wanted to make a girl's day of it--and I'm up for a girl's day and playing hooky from work. It's far more about the chocolate martinis and getting dressed up to go out than the movie itself for me. lol

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I went to PotC last summer, but that was only because my mom was driving. Otherwise, I would have just waited to get free passes from my theater. Not only is it cheaper, but I'm not worried about falling asleep.

I get girly and fun. I do. But girly and fun are the movies I tend to sit in on my breaks, not set aside time to go see, let alone see a midnight show.

But yay for getting dressed up and going out. Sounds like a lot of fun.

[identity profile] ladyofbrileith.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to remember the last midnight show I saw, and I am drawing a blank. LOL. Serenity maybe? I get tired and don't want to go out that late usually. lol

Oh, yeah--hell no. I wouldn't go see it at midnight, ever. I probably wouldn't have even gone to see it at all if Sara hadn't asked--and we're going to a matinee, so cheaper tickets, too. lol

I think it will be. I'm all watching the clock going, "I get to leave in 3 hours and 15 minutes." and then thinking, "Oh, and I should tag."

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee -- I know that feeling, definitely.

[identity profile] toxic-shadow.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Ewwwww.

See, I'm glad I don't work at a theater. But then again, after my rant you got to suffer through... my job isn't much better sometimes.

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I don't think jobs like this are ever much better.
