After finally seeing it...

I think I may be the only person on the planet that says this, but I don't get Brokeback Mountain.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's very well done, and Heath and Jake both do a fantastic job, but -- it just doesn't grab me emotionally. Like -- the story just doesn't work for me. I dunno.

I don't think it was Best Picture material, but that's just me. I didn't really think No Country for Old Men was Best Picture material either, and I liked that more than I liked BM.

Again, that may just be me, though.

I haven't seen either movie, but I absolutely DESPISED the book, No Country For Old Men. If we wrote fanfic like that, no one would read it!

I haven't read either book, but I've heard that the writing is tough in NCfOM. I really liked the movie though, as a movie. It was very well put together, well acted. Bardem definitely deserved that Oscar -- he did a fantastic job.

Nope, I agree about Brokeback. I liked it and all, but...I didn't get the hype. And I was especially irked because it was the same year as Crash in all the awards and kept winning over Crash which in my opinion, was criminal.

Except Crash got the Oscar! And I'm glad they did -- Crash was fantastic. I mean really fantastic.

Yes. I had nearly lost hope at that moment. Then I was literally on the edge of my seat, hands clasped in prayer, ready to dismiss all award shows forever...and Crash won. And I jumped up and cheered. Seriously. I was so happy they won. They deserved it so much. That was an incredible movie. Probably on the top of my list.

I also remember it came out at the very beginning of the year, way before all the other Oscar films, and the moment I left the theater I said "It's gonna win the Oscar."

I didn't get to see it until after it had won, but even after I saw it I knew it deserved it. It really was a fabulous movie.

I really liked Brokeback's subtlety and scenery and I think I really just liked the easy spirit of it; I'm too sappy sometimes & I dig westerns. Plus, gay cowboys make me happy.

I haven't seen No Country.. though. I want to.

Yeah, I liked it as a movie, but I guess with all the hype that was surrounding it, I expected more than I got. And I loved the love story, but -- I wouldn't have done it the same way. It happened too quickly for me to buy in that genre, I guess. I dunno.

No Country was great. Confusing and a little mind boggling (and VIOLENT), but very good.

Brokeback... didn't really get me. The only thing that wrenched me a bit was the last scene with Heath hugging the shirt. But only because he pulled it off so well and it was that one moment that really made the movie for me. But I don't think it's OMG amazing... Crash deserved the award, that was the OMG picture for sure.

I will say that Brokeback the movie is totally its own thing. If you read the novella... it's like the backbone of the story only.
