Dean - Miles to Go
Fandom: Supernatural
Title: Miles to Go
Author:
iluvroadrunner6
Rating: FRT
Characters: Dean Winchester, mentions of Sam and John Winchester
dramaticmuses Prompt: 003. Weapon
Content Warning: Spoilers for "Hunted."
Summary: There were days when he was just tired. So damn tired and all he wanted to do was blow off the hunt, or whatever it was they were doing and just sleep until he couldn’t sleep any more.
Author's Note: Not long at all. Probably been done to death, but I don't really care.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of Supernatural. They're owned by the CW. However, any and all original characters are mine, so please don't use them without my permission.
There were days when he was just tired. So damn tired and all he wanted to do was blow off the hunt, or whatever it was they were doing and just sleep until he couldn’t sleep any more. It wasn’t even physically being tired so much as it was the mental weight that his father had placed on his shoulders. And with those thoughts buzzing through his mind, there was no way he could sleep.
Save Sammy. If that doesn’t work, kill him.
He understood where John was coming from. He’d be damned if they were going to let that demon get his hands on his baby brother, but this was Sam. He couldn’t kill his own brother. Not when he was the only family he had left. He lost both parents to the demon, he wasn’t going to lose his brother too. More than anything, he didn’t want to be alone, and he knew that if Sam was gone that’s what he would be.
What was also equally crippling was that it was an order. An order was an order, and he didn’t disobey his father’s orders. Not anymore. But he knew that when it came down to the moment of truth, he was never going to be able to pull that trigger. He would rather die and kill Sam himself, and he’d made up the resolution that that was what he was going to do. He would protect Sam with his life, and Dean was going to die first before he ever let the demon turn his brother into a weapon.
That thought didn’t lighten the weight on his shoulders, or make it any easier for him to sleep. That mindset also made him equally determined to save Sam. And he knew he was a long way away from actually achieving that goal. It was a long time coming before they actually beat that demon, and he had to keep fighting to make sure Sam didn’t slip through his fingers.
So that meant there were miles to go before he slept.
