Sam/Jess - Forced to Attend

Fandom: Supernatural
Title: Forced to Attend
Author: [livejournal.com profile] iluvroadrunner6
Rating: FRT
Characters: Sam Winchester/Jessica Moore
[livejournal.com profile] fic_variations Prompt: luck (#1)
Content Warning: N/A
Summary: Sam gets dragged to a frat party by his roommate, and makes a new friend.
Author's Note: Remember that guy in the pilot? Sam and Jess's friend who they never really named? Josh is basically my interpretation of him (I gave him a name. Because he's got a fun voice to write). And also, I searched around for a while, and they never really said what Jessica's major was--but she seems like a psych person to me. But that's just me.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of Supernatural. They're owned by the CW. However, any and all original characters are mine, so please don't use them without my permission.

“You should consider yourself lucky I’m your roommate, Sam,” Josh said as he threw an arm around Sam’s neck, following him into the party.

“I should? Really?” Sam replied, giving his friend a skeptical look.

Josh returned the look, “If it weren’t for me dragging you off your ass and to this party, you would still be sitting up in the dorm, with your nose in a book.”

“And that’s a bad thing?”

“Sam, Sam, Sam,” Josh shook his head, “You need to live a little, my friend. Stop working yourself into the ground and have a little fun. Go out, dance, drink, get laid, maybe.”

“Partying isn’t my kinda thing,” he replied, glancing around as Josh pushed him through the throng of people towards the bar.

“Once, dude, just once before we graduate from this damn school, I want to see you get absolutely shitfaced.”

“Well, it’s not going to be tonight,” Sam replied.

“I so was wrong about you,” he said, shaking his head.

“How so?” Sam asked, giving him a smirk.

“I thought that if someone just gave you the right opportunity, you would completely bust out, and prove to everyone that you are not a stuffy nerd who only wanted to study,” Josh said, giving his friend a look, “Apparently, I horribly misjudged you.”

“Sorry to disappoint you,” Sam laughed.

“You know what?” Josh began, an evil grin crossing his face, “I know how to get that party boy out of you.” Sam’s eyes went wide as his brain spun through the possibilities of what could follow that sentence.

“Dude, I don’t know—”

“I’ll just have to go find my girl, Monique,” Josh laughed, clapping him on the back, “She could bring a party animal out of a rock.”

“No, Josh, you really don’t have to—”

“Don’t you worry about a think, my man,” he grinned, “The Josh-man is going to take care of you.”

“Yeah, but I really don’t need—”

“No need to thank me—just let me work my magic.”

With that he disappeared into the crowd, and Sam ran a hand through his hair, frustrated. The guy was worse than his big brother used to be, the difference being that Sam could tell Dean to fuck off, because Dean was family. Dean would snap back something he considered witty, drive off for a while, and come back like nothing had happened. Josh, however, he had to live with when this was all over, and while he might drink the memory away, and have it be lost in the hangover in the morning, Sam would still be uncomfortable about it. So he was just going to have to deal with it, and tried to formulate the best way to tell “Monique” when she got here that he really wasn’t interested in what she had to offer.

“Guy doesn’t know how to take no for an answer, huh?”

Sam turned and saw a blond woman standing next to him at the bar, and gave her a half-smile, “I guess not.”

“I would have told him to fuck off,” she grinned and he laughed.

“I would—but that would make for an uncomfortable living situation.”

“Ah—you’re roommate?”

“Yeah.”

“Lucky you,” she smirked.

“Aren’t I?” he grinned, and she laughed. Then he shrugged, “He thinks he’s looking out for me.”

“By hooking you up with Monique?” the girl frowned.

“He thinks I need to let out my inner frat boy.”

“I see,” she nodded, “He doesn’t want you to bottle up your sexual urges. Very Freudian of him.” He gave her a look, and she grinned, “Psych major.”

“Ah,” he nodded.

“What about you?”

“Pre-law,” he said, and she grinned.

“So you should have been able to smooth talk your way out of this.”

“Maybe,” he grinned back, “Guess I just wasn’t trying hard enough.”

She laughed, before extending her hand to him, “I’m Jess.”

“Sam,” he replied, shaking her hand, “Nice to meet you.”

“You, too,” she nodded, and they both turned as Josh came back, a very drunk redhead leaning on his arm.

“I return bearing your deliverance,” he said with a grin, before pushing the woman towards him, “Sam, Monique—Monique, this is by buddy Sam.”

Monique stumbled into Sam, causing him to catch her under the elbows. “It’s French,” she slurred up at him, and he could smell the alcohol on her breath, even though he was a bit taller.

“That’s nice,” he said, giving Josh an uncertain look.

“You know what—why don’t we go upstairs?” Monique began, playing with the buttons on Sam’s shirt.

“I don’t think that’s such a good idea,” Sam replied, trying to back away from her but hitting the bar behind him.

“C’mon baby,” she purred, “I’ll rock your world.”

“I really don’t—”

“—Think that’s necessary,” Jess finished for him, pushing Monique away from him slightly, “I’ve got it.”

“You sure about that?” Monique said, looking Jess up and down slightly, “Because I don’t freeze up when it comes time to seal the deal.”

“I said, I’ve got it, Mo,” Jess said, adding a bit more spite to the words. A slow grin crossed Josh’s face and he threw an arm around Monique’s shoulders.

“I see, I see,” he laughed, “Alright, Sam, I know how you do. Play on playa.”

“I’ll do that,” Sam nodded, trying not to laugh. The look on Monique’s face turned sour, and Josh turned to her, before leading her upstairs.

“C’mon, baby, I’ll make you feel better—”

Sam and Jess watched them walk away, before he turned back to look at her, “Thank you.”

“No problem,” she replied, “I hate that slut.”

He laughed slightly, before turning to look at her, “So, now I guess you’re stuck with me.”

“I guess so,” she replied, leaning on the bar with a smile.

“Whatever will you do with me?” he said, before returning the smile.

“Well, I’d probably make you have a drink with me,” she nodded, “And then I guess we’ll see where it goes.”

“I guess so.”

*happy sigh* Figures that the one time I like a canon ship, it gets killed (no pun intended) in the first episode. ^^ This was lovely, and I really like your Sam. :D

I know so many guys like Josh. So many. And so many girls like Monique. And Jess -- hee! "I said, I've got it, Mo." I love her. I like this story, the characters are easy to relate to, the way you've written them, and I love when that's how a story goes.

Now I just need to borrow Supernatural S1 from my friend Patrick...
(So I actually know what everyone's talking about.)

i think this is probably the easiest fic i've ever written purely for the fact that i am surrounded by college students at the moment. the characters just--came.

and you should! (supernatural is so much better than grey's. and yes, i have watched grey's before.)

i'm glad you liked it.

In the script he's called Luis.

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2007-03-05 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, really? because i checked with the acting credits, and they had him down as nameless, they just credited the actor.

thanks for telling me. that's good to know.

[identity profile] astrothsknot.livejournal.com 2007-03-05 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's in one of the earliest versions of the script, online somewhere, but I can't recall where. I got the link on the SPN forum at TWOP, which is the best I can do.
