Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of CSI:NY or Conviction. They're owned by CBS and NBC.
Stella may not have been too fond of the holiday of Valentine’s Day—especially when she was single—but she did love going to work. She felt more loved than she did on her birthday, for some reason, because a person couldn’t go wrong with a gift for Valentine’s Day. Flowers, a card, chocolate, maybe the occasional stuffed animal—if you walked into any Hallmark store it was pretty much one stop shopping. And it all ended up on her desk just before she got to it, so when she walked into her office, it was an explosion of red, pink and white. And for some reason it brought a smile to her face like nothing else.
Lindsay gave her a smirk as she came into her office, watching the other woman as she rooted through her loot. “And I thought I had it good.”
“Stick around a little while longer, and you’ll probably wind up with more than you bargained for.”
Lindsay nodded, and then noticed the bouquet Stella had moved off to the side, bright yellow roses resting in the vase, “These wouldn’t be from that ADA I noticed you sneaking around with, would they?”
“Those are from Flack,” Stella replied, “And Jim better not be getting me yellow roses.”
“I was going to say—yellow doesn’t exactly say passionate romance,” Lindsay nodded, “Makes sense that they’re from Flack. Although I didn’t think he was the flower type. All he got me was a card and a stash of Hershey kisses.”
“He had Jess to worry about,” Stella replied, “But Flack’s been getting me flowers for longer than I can remember. If he didn’t—”
“He would have another thing coming,” Lindsay nodded, then turned back to the desk, “So what did Mr. Deputy Bureau Chief get you?”
“I don’t know yet. It hasn’t come yet,” she said, “At least, I don’t think so.” She went back to her pile, and started sorting things out. Cards from Danny, Sid, Pino and Adam, chocolate and a teddy bear from Hawkes, more chocolate from Mac—but so far nothing from Steele.
“Maybe he’s surprising me later,” Stella shrugged, “It’s still early. What’d Danny get you?”
“Spa day,” she replied, “And lots of chocolate.”
“Smart man,” Stella nodded.
“Yup,” Lindsay grinned, “Well, I just wanted to drop of my own card for you.” She handed the woman a card with a heart-shaped box of chocolate attached to it. Stella thanked her before reaching into her desk to do the same. When she looked up, there was a pile of flowers, boxes and cards, all on legs. Suddenly, a disembodied voice came from the pile.
“Stella, you have a delivery from the DA’s office.”
“That you, Adam?” Lindsay asked.
“Yeah—a little help here please, ladies?” They both moved over quickly, and relieved Adam of his packages.
“How’d you get stuck with this job?” Stella asked, placing the presents down on her desk.
“Originally there was only one delivery guy, so I volunteered to take the package to you. Then—they just kept coming. There was nothing else I could do but carry it all,” he then turned to Lindsay, “I think there’s some stuff for you in there too.”
In a few minutes, the packages were sorted and arranged. There was a card from Peluso and Desmond, as well as one with an addition of chocolate from Rossi and Finn. There was an extra card for Lindsay from Jim, leaving only a bouquet of pink roses and a teddy bear sitting on her desk. It was a white bear, wearing a bowler hat and a gray tie.
“That’s cute,” Lindsay sighed, “Who knew Steele had it in him?”
“He’s not as gruff as he makes himself out to be,” Stella replied softly, before walking over to arrange the roses in the vase. Lindsay wandered over to the bear, and looked at the tag attached to him.
“Mr. Cassanova,” she read.
Stella rolled her eyes, “He’s not that either.” Lindsay smirked before noticing a patch on the bear’s hand, usually indicating that there was some kind of song. She reached forward and squeezed it, and watched as the bear started to dance in front of her.
L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see.
V is very very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore
“I think Jim wins this year,” Lindsay laughed, shaking her head and Stella grinned.
“Maybe. I still think the spa day is pretty good,” Stella replied, “But he definitely gets points for creativity.”
