Summary: Its not always easy when you're handling the case of a dead cop.
Author's Note: Pratt's testimony and Peluso's closing statement. And yes, this thing is getting finished tonight.
For Reference: CSI:NY and Conviction. If you have a question, don't be afraid to ask, I don't mind answering.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of CSI:NY or Conviction. They're owned by CBS and NBC.
“Nothing further,” Sharp replied, finishing his questioning and heading to his seat. Peluso got up, and eyed the man defensively.
“You claim that Detective Burn was stalking you,” Peluso said, walking towards him, “Do you have any proof of this?”
“Physical proof, no,” Pratt replied, “But I saw her following me on the way to work, the way home. Watching me as I worked. I could feel her there; it was like a feeling I couldn’t shake.”
“So you just ‘knew’ it was her?”
“Yeah.”
“Kind of like Regina Bowen ‘knew’ it was you who raped her?”
“Objection!” Sharp replied.
“Withdrawn,” Peluso said, before continuing in his line of questioning, “Did Detective Burn ever approach you while she was doing this alleged stalking?”
“No,” Pratt replied.
“She didn’t physically assault you in any way?”
“No.”
“No verbal threats, telephone messages, the like?”
“No, she didn’t.”
“Then what exactly were you defending yourself from?”
“Her!” Pratt replied.
“She didn’t seem to have been a threat to you in anyway, and yet you say you were defending yourself from her?”
“She was trying to put me in jail for something I didn’t do!” Pratt protested, “Of course I was defending myself.”
Peluso paused for a second, before continuing his line of questioning, “Let’s go back to the day of the—event. Did Detective Burn initiate the attack?”
“—No.”
“No. Did she have any weapons on her of any kind? A gun, a knife?”
“No.”
“Had she done anything in that encounter to indicate that she was out to cause you any kind of harm that could have resulted in the death of you or someone else at that very moment?”
“—No.”
“No?”
Pratt just shook his head, before running a hand through his hair. Peluso looked up at the judge, the edges of a smirk threatening to break onto his face.
“Nothing further.”

Peluso waited until Sharp sat down after his closing statement before getting up in front of the jury one last time.
“DJ Pratt claims that he was defending himself from Detective Burn. Claims that she was a threat to him in some way, that she would have taken his life, and that justifies him taking hers. But as you heard from his earlier testimony—that might not necessarily be the case. He says that there was no visible weapon he could see. She didn’t assault him physically that time, or any other time previously. There were no verbal threats, no sign that Aiden had any intention whatsoever of causing him any pain and suffering, yet—he was defending himself. There is absolutely no evidence that Aiden Burn had intent to kill Aiden, yet there’s plenty of motive for the defendant. Aiden was gong to make sure he went to jail for what he did to Regina Bowen, and he killed her for it.
Peluso paused, and held it, trying to make sure he had contact with every jury member in front of him, “Don’t let him get away with murder.”
