Aiden sat on the edge of the fountain in Central Park, waiting for this guy that Danny had set her up with. She really hated blind dates, and was just doing this so Danny would get off her back about things. He had come to the conclusion that she needed someone in her life, and while she still needed to be convinced herself, she knew she could use some time outside her apartment. So, she was here.
But the one thing she hated about blind dates was the fact that she didn’t know who the guy was, and Central Park was enormous. She could only hope that she was in the right place, and that the guy she was supposed to be meeting was too. She glanced over to her right, and met eyes with a tall, dark haired man with a deck of cards in his hands. She stared back to him for a second, before looking away again. He was cute, but that didn’t necessarily mean she was going to rule out skeevey.
She heard footsteps approaching, and the flick of cards being shuffled. The red backed cards were fanned out under her nose, and she looked up to see the man next to her, a small smile on his face.
“Pick a card.”
“I’m waiting for someone,” she replied, quickly.
“So I’ll help you kill time,” he stated, nudging the cards closer to her. Aiden hesitated and he pushed a little harder, “C’mon, humor me. I need the practice. I promise I won’t make it come out of your ass or anything, just pick a card.”
Aiden laughed before, relenting, “Alright.” She reached forward and picked a card out of the deck. She studied it for a second. “Now what do I do?”
“You remember it?”
“Yeah.”
“Alright, put it back in the deck.” She did so, and he started shuffling the cards.
“So, what brings you to Central Park on this beautiful day?”
“This guy I work with set me up on a blind date.”
“And he didn’t just ask you out himself?”
“Oh, he’s tried,” Aiden smirked, “He’s not my type.”
“I’m sure,” he grinned, “So you’re supposed to meet this guy here?”
“Yeah, I think,” Aiden frowned, “I mean, I hope so, anyway. What about you? Any reason you’re in the middle of Central Park with a deck of cards?”
“I’m a street magician,” he explained, “I walk around and pull coins and flowers out from behind people’s ears. Or in your case—” He reached behind her ear and flicked his wrist slightly, holding a playing card between two fingers in front of her face, “—your card.”
“Wow,” she laughed, taking the card from his hand, “That was pretty good.”
“Why thank you,” he said, giving a slight bow.
She slipped the card back into his deck, before looking around again. Not spotting anyone who seemed like they were looking for someone, she turned back to him and gave him a smile.
“Got another one?”
The corner of his mouth turned up in a smile and he nodded, “Your wish is my command.”

By the time it started to get dark, Christian had produced about three flowers, various cards, and about two fifty in change from behind her ear, as well as doing other slight of hand tricks for her. He would fill the air, asking her random things about herself, what she did for a living, things like that, keeping her distracted from what he was doing with his hands. Instead of flourishing his hands, he used his words. And as street magicians go, she had to admit, he was quite good at what he did.
“How do you make money off this?” she asked.
“Periodically, I’ll have an actual show in the park, and charge admission,” he shrugged, “It gets me by. But I hate having to do that, though. It’s so impersonal.”
“You’d rather work one-on-one?” she said, and he nodded.
“Yeah,” he stated, smirking again, “It’s a lot easier to fool you.”
She laughed slightly before looking up. “Oh, wow. It’s late,” she glanced down at her watch, “I guess he’s not coming.”
“Guess not,” Christian replied, “I guess I should probably let you go.”
“Thanks for waiting with me,” she nodded, extending her hand to him, and he reached forward and shook it.
“For a girl as pretty as you? Anytime,” he grinned, and started to walk away, but she stopped him, pulling his hand back.
“I never got your name,” she said, “I’m Aiden.” His eyes went wide slightly, and he shook his head.
“Aiden Burn?” She dropped his hand and backed away slightly.
“Yeah. That’s me.”
“Hi,” he sighed, “I’m Christian Taylor, the asshole who stood you up.”
Aiden just stared at him for a second before starting to laugh, “Why didn’t you say something?”
“Because I didn’t believe that Messer actually knew someone as attractive as you,” Christian smirked, “And you were right. You’re way out of his league.”
Aiden grinned, “So if I wasn’t the right girl, you would have just stood them up?”
Christian shrugged, “Depends. If it was who I was expecting from Danny, then hell yeah.”
Aiden laughed, “So I guess you were the one who screwed up our date, huh?”
“Guess so,” he nodded, “Let me buy you a cup of coffee and make it up to you?”
Aiden hesitated for a second before nodding, “I’d like that.”
