Hawkes and Larry - Snowfall
Fandom: CSI:NY/Numb3rs
Title: Snowfall
Author:
iluvroadrunner6
Rating: FRT
Characters: Sheldon Hawkes, Dr. Larry Fleinhart
Content Warning: N/A
Summary: Larry and Hawkes have a brief conversation while watching the snow.
Author's Note: Also used the prompt Dr. Sheldon Hawkes / Dr. Larry Fleinhart / snowfall. Just a brief plot bunny that I wanted to get out, something I thought would be fun to write.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of CSI:NY. They're owned by CBS. However, any and all original characters are mine, so please don't use them without my permission.
Hawkes found Larry staring out the window at the big flakes falling below. He gave the man a small smile, before walking closer.
“Everything alright, Doctor Fleinhart?” he asked, and Larry turned to him, nodding.
“Oh yes, fine. I’m just watching the snow,” he replied, before his eyes drifted off to the window again, “It’s quite relaxing, don’t you think Dr. Hawkes?”
“Yes, very,” Hawkes replied, letting his eyes wander to the window himself.
“It’s been so long since I’ve actually seen snow,” Larry began as he and Hawkes watched the large white flakes drift down past the window, “Not since I was back at Princeton.”
“Ah,” Hawkes nodded, “Back when the world was young and dinosaurs roamed the earth?” Larry shot him a look before he continued.
“You jest, Sheldon, but really,” he paused, then turned back to the window, resting his chin in his hand, “Sometimes it does feel like it was that long ago.”
Hawkes chuckled softly the two men fell into silence, big fat flakes drifting across the panes of the windows, dancing on the breeze as they tumbled their way to the street below.
“Gonna be a mess getting home tonight,” Hawkes commented, “The roads are going to be awful.”
“That is true,” Larry nodded, “Snow was not one of Mother Nature’s nicer inventions. I think it was part of the reason I transferred to Cal-Sci. Less hazardous roadways during the winter months. Especially with my current vehicle. I don’t think a thirty-one was meant to take conditions like this one.”
“Thirty-one, Doctor?” Hawkes frowned, giving the man a look, and Larry nodded.
“Yes. It’s a beautiful vehicle. Near mint condition when I got it.”
“—Wow,” Sheldon commented at a loss for anything else, “You think they would all be in museums.”
“I happened to find one on the market, and chances to actually be able to own something like that are so rare. To think, Charles wanted me to change the condition of the car by actually putting seat belts in it.”
Hawkes nodded for a second, before turning back to him, “You actually drive it?”
“Of course,” Larry replied, “Why put the money into buying it if you’re going to just have it on display? I’d rather spend my hard earned money on the intrinsic value of using something, than just looking at it.”
Hawkes frowned slightly, “You have quite a valid point there, Professor.”
“The way I see it, we can’t take any of these material things with us to the great beyond, whatever it may be for whoever it is. Why buy something and wait for it to build up value, when there’s so much more pleasure in actually using it.”
Hawkes nodded again, giving a smile to the man next to him, “I guess I never thought of it that way.”
Larry nodded, falling into silence again as they just watched the snow, starting to see accumulation gather on the sides of the road, slush building in the streets. Larry then shook his head slowly.
“I have to tell you though, even though the sight of the fluffy white precipitation is quite relaxing, I can’t say I miss having to dig through it every winter. I think my back thanks me every year for moving to California.”
“I can imagine,” Hawkes replied, “I think I would miss it though. I always did love a white Christmas.”
“Well, I guess we all have our own preferences then, don’t we?” Larry replied, and Hawkes nodded slightly.
“I guess we do.”

this was just sitting on my hard drive, and i couldn't think of anything else to tinker with, so i decided to go and actually finish it.
i seriously think they need to have a crossover, just so that larry and hawkes can have some kind of conversation.

I want to see a Larry and Sid conversation.

and then i would love to see megan and hawkes interact as well. larry, sid, megan, and hawkes should all just sit down and have a massive conversation.

I think that hawkes and Larry make interesting friends:)

hawkes and larry would have the best conversations. i want there to be a crossover just for that.
and for other reasons too...*coughs megan/flack coughs*...ahem.

...but then again, i think anyone/flack is adorable. so i might not be the best judge for this.
