She was standing at her desk when he came in eyes focused on something in front of her. A piece of paper, probably a memo of some kind, but the way she was holding it, told him something might not be quite right. She was clenching it tightly, eyes intent and focused. Something wasn’t exactly right.

Things hadn’t been exactly right for a while. Not since she had come back to Miami. She was a lot more nervous and jumpy. He was beginning to wonder if it was him, but then he noticed when he was around she actually calmed down a bit. But it still was a bit unsettling that she was feeling this way. Something out there was bothering her, and she wouldn’t let him in. He hated seeing her scared like this, but he didn’t know how to approach it if he didn’t know what was going on.

He knocked slightly on the door, and watched as she spun around, slamming the paper onto her desk, face down. She was spooked, startled, but when she realized who it was, she relaxed.

“Hey,” she sighed, “What are you doing here?”

“Thought you might want to grab lunch,” he replied, “Everything alright?”

“Fine, fine,” she nodded, giving him a smile, “Just really engrossed in this story we’re running later.”

He knew that he wasn’t going to get anything out of her if he pressed the matter, but he really wished she would just open up to him about it, but there was a slim to none chance of that happening anytime soon.

“You sure?” he frowned.

“Yeah,” she sighed, before giving him a quick kiss, “Nothing you have to worry about OK?”

“Erica,” he murmured, wrapping his arms around her waist, “You know you can talk to me, right? If you’re worried about something, you can come to me.”

“I know,” she sighed, “I just don’t want to worry you over nothing.”

“It’s not nothing if it scares you like this,” he said, giving her a concerned look.

“It’s just me getting all worked up over something that I shouldn’t,” she said, “Something that’s not important, and not going to change anything.”

“I don’t mind if you talk to me about the little things,” Eric sighed, “It’s why I’m here.”

“I know,” she sighed, “It’s OK. So, how bout lunch?”

“Right,” he nodded, “Lunch.” He pulled away from her slightly, and started to pull her towards the door, and letting the subject drop, “Where are we going?”

“You’re inviting me to lunch, and you didn’t already have someplace in mind?” she said, giving him a look. A grin crossed his face, before he spoke.

“I was thinking that I would let you pick the place, I would just offer to pay.”

“Uh-huh,” she said, the look on her face not changing.

“I mean, I can’t always predict what you want,” he replied, moving in closer to her.

“Uh-huh,” she said, as he leaned in to kiss her again, before rambling off where she wanted to go.

“See, I would have picked somewhere else.”

“Let’s just go,” she said, pushing him out of the office ahead of her, “You’re lucky you’re cute.”
