Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of CSI:NY or Conviction. They're owned by CBS and NBC.

“It’s just the Grand Jury, Flack,” Stella said as she drove, “You’ve testified for that before.”

“I know,” Flack replied, giving her a nod.

“So what are you so nervous about?” she asked, briefly glancing over at the man next to her.

“Well, I’ve never exactly testified on behalf of the defense before, Stell,” he replied, starting to drum his fingers against the door of the car, “That makes it kind of nerve-wracking.”

“I know,” Stella sighed, “But Jess said she’d help you prepare, right? You’ll be fine.”

A grin crossed his face and she could almost predict what was coming, “This is me and Jess you are referring to. ‘Helping me prepare’ could turn into—”

“I don’t need to know,” she cut him off and the grin stayed on his face, and he looked away from her, out the side passenger window, she then glanced at him briefly and gave him a smile.

“You’ll be fine, Don,” she said, “Aiden’s not going to let you let this guy get away with it.”

He turned to her and gave her a smirk, before noticing one of his favorite places to eat to their right. “Whadaya say, Stella? Pull over get a bite to eat?”

“No, Flack,” she said flatly.

“C’mon, Stella, I’m starvin here,” he begged.

No, Flack.”

Billy hesitated slightly before knocking on the door. He wasn’t so sure about this, but Peluso was first chair. He knew that Regina Bowen’s could be pretty powerful if used in the right capacity, but he wasn’t sure if she would be completely willing to testify. After all, she wouldn’t testify the first time around, he wasn’t so sure she’d do it this time either.

But then again, he knew why Peluso had sent him instead of Jess, someone she knew. Billy tended to know what buttons to push when he needed to. He took a deep breath when he heard the door start to open, and placed a friendly smile on his lips. Regina gave him an apprehensive look, before speaking.

“Can I help you?”

“Regina Bowen?”

“Yes?”

“My name is Assistant District Attorney Billy Desmond. Do you mind if I come in? I would like to speak with you about something.”

Regina nodded slowly before opening the door further, “Is this about Aiden’s case?”

Billy nodded, “ADA Peluso and I wanted to ask you if you would testify on her behalf in court.”

Her eyes widened and she shook her head, “I don’t know about that—”

“Miss Bowen, your testimony would hold a lot of weight with the jury,” he replied, “In order to have the jury understand why Aiden was acting the way she was, we need for them to understand what you went through as well.”

“Mr. Desmond, I—I can’t,” she said, and he could see the tears welling up in her eyes, “I feel horribly about what happened to Aiden, but I don’t think I can—”

“We can prep you to be on the stand with Sharp doing the cross-examination,” Billy replied, “Help you get into the right frame of mind.”

“Look, Mr. Desmond,” she sighed, “I can’t do it, alright? I can’t—I can’t face him after what he did to me.”

“Miss Bowen, I understand that you are scared,” Billy said softly, “And I understand that fear is an incredibly big motivator to not do something, but after everything Aiden did for you, I think it’s only fair that you try and do the same for her.”

Regina hesitated, looking down at her hands, “I’m not as strong as she was.”

“I think you’re stronger than you think,” Billy replied.

“That lawyer, Jackson Sharp,” she sighed, “He’ll tear me apart.”

“Not if you don’t let him.”

“And how do I do that?”

“By realizing that the one thing he really fears is you,” Billy said firmly, and she stared at him for a second, and he thought that she was going to say no again, thought she was going to turn him down again, and refuse to do it, but then she nodded slowly, before she spoke.

“OK,” she sighed, “I’ll do it.”
