Stella pulled a flavored water out of the fridge in the breakroom, and gave Maka a smile as she came in. “Raspberry water?”
“No thanks,” she sighed, sinking down in the seat. They sat in silence for a moment, before Maka leaned forward on the table and buried her face in her hands, “I think I might have just done something very, very stupid.”
“Really?” Stella frowned, “Why’d you think that?”
“I agreed to go out with Danny.”
Stella’s eyebrows raised, “Oh.”
“See?” Maka said with a slightly evil smirk, “You think so too.”
“I don’t—I don’t think that,” Stella said slowly, trying to cover for that, “I just—when did this happen?”
“When you and Flack decided to lock us in that closet,” Maka replied, “And don’t tell me you weren’t in on it, because I know you were.”
“I am insulted that you think I would let Flack talk me into something like that.” Maka gave her a look and shifted, before looking away from the other woman, “I’d have him bribe me a good amount first.”
Maka laughed, before shaking her head, “I’m not sure if this is what I should be doing.”
“Well, do you like Danny?”
“Yeah.”
“It’s pretty obvious he likes you,” Stella nodded, “I don’t see the problem.”
“Danny and I are friends,” Maka sighed, “I know him better than I’d like to. I’m not sure I want to take that next step with him.”
“Look, Kaile,” Stella sighed, reaching forward and putting her hand on the other woman’s, “You and Danny are friends. If you want something more from him, there’s no harm in trying it out. If it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out.”
“But knowing me and Danny, this could be more than just not working out,” Maka replied, running a hand through her hair, “This could blow up into a big, ugly mess, and Danny and I would never be able to get alone again.”
“Or—this could really, really work out,” Stella said with a smile, “Never know until you try.”
Maka sighed heavily before giving her a look, “I hate it when you’re right. Can’t you ever let me take the easy way?”
“And have you back out on your deal with Danny?” Stella replied with a grin, “Why would I do that?” She got up, and headed out of the breakroom, and Maka glared at her back.
“I really don’t like you right now.”

“Well, here we are,” Danny sighed as he walked her to the door of her apartment, “Home sweet home.”
“Yeah,” Maka nodded, her hands slipping into the pockets of her coat, “I had a good time, Danny.”
“Me too,” he nodded, giving her a grin. She nodded before turning and pulling out the keys to her door. She unlocked it, and started to walk in, when she felt his hand on her arm.
“What, no kiss goodnight?”
She hesitated before she turned around, looking slightly nervous, “Look, Danny, this is still a little weird—us being on a date. I’m not sure if I’m ready for—”
“That’s all you have to say,” he said, rubbing her arms lightly. He leaned in to give her a kiss on the cheek, but she turned her head at the last minute, so that he met her lips instead. She let him lean into the kiss, backing her against the door, and only pulled back when he needed to breathe. “Thought you weren’t ready,” he murmured, feeling one arm slide from him, and reach for the doorknob again.
“Changed my mind,” she replied, grabbing his shirt and pulling him into the apartment behind her.
