“Yogurt?”
Maka looked up and shook her head at Lindsay’s offer, slumping back further in her seat. Lindsay shifted awkwardly before walking to sit down next to her, opening the yogurt herself. Maka straightened when another doctor walked by, and when they continued to walk past her, she slid back down in her seat again, starting to nibble on the edge of one of her nails.
“They’ll probably have some news for us soon,” Lindsay spoke up again, and was only met with silence.
“This is just like him too,” she shook her head, “Just like him to get himself hurt like this, only a few weeks before the wedding.”
“He’ll pull out of this, alright?” Lindsay said, rubbing the other woman’s back lightly.
“I hope you’re right,” Maka murmured.
“He’s been through worse, right?” Lindsay replied.
“Yeah, he has—but doesn’t stop making you nervous, Lindsay,” she said, giving her a look.
“You’re right,” she nodded, “You’re right. Sorry.”
Maka let out a shaky sigh before running a hand through her hair, “There’s no way I’m getting any sleep tonight.”
She and Lindsay continued to sit there in silence, glancing back and forth at each other occasionally until Flack came up to the two of them.
“Hey, Kaile---why don’t you take a break, get something to eat? Me and Monroe’ll wait on the doctor.”
She shook her head, “No—I should stay. I should be here.”
“Look, we’ll come get you if we hear anything, alright?”
She stared at him for a minute, before taking a deep breath, and getting up, “Fine. You’re right. I’ll—I’ll go beat the crap out of the vending machine or something.”
Flack and Lindsay both watched her walk away, before Lindsay turned and frowned, “Is she gonna be OK?”
“I don’t know,” he shook his head, sitting down next to Lindsay, “But God, I hope so.”

Danny blinked his eyes open blearily, focusing on Lindsay’s face next to him. He frowned when he saw Lindsay sitting next to him, “Where’s Kaile?”
“Nice to see you too, Danny,” she said, rolling her eyes, “Kinda were worried about you there.”
“Montana, don’t be bitchy at me right now—”
“She said something about beating the crap out of a vending machine,” Lindsay replied, “Flack went to look for her. I’m making sure you don’t die before she gets back.”
“I wasn’t anywhere near dead,” he said, shifting so that he was sitting up more.
“Which is good,” Lindsay sighed, “Because by the time she’s done with you, you might be.”
“She’s that mad, huh?”
“Danny, you let them beat the crap out of you,” Lindsay sighed, giving her a look, “They could of killed you. She’s beyond pissed.”
Danny leaned back on the hospital bed and closed his eyes, “What’d she expect me to do? Just sit on my hands?”
“I expected you to use your head, Danny,” Maka replied from the doorway of the room. Lindsay glanced between the two of them, before slipping out of the room, leaving the two of them alone. Maka moved over and took Lindsay’s seat, burying her face in her hands.
“Kaile—”
“Danny, they could have killed you.”
“I know, I know,” he sighed, reaching for her hand, “But I couldn’t just sit there and do nothing.”
“You could have done something that wouldn’t have prompted them to beat the shit out of you.”
“If I wasn’t going to do it, who would?” he said, giving her a look.
“That’s no excuse,” she said with a glare, knowing that no matter what she said, he was just going to do it anyway. He could see the exhaustion in her face, and he shook his head.
“Hey, hey,” he said, motioning for her to come closer, “C’mon—I’ve been in worst scrapes than this.”
“So not the point, Danny,” she muttered as she sat on the edge of the bed, letting his arms slide around her.
“Listen to me, alright?” he said, giving her a look, “I fought too hard to get you to say yes to me in the first place, I’m not going to screw it up by getting myself killed. You’re stuck with me. For a long ass time.”
She turned to him with a small smile, “I hope you’re right.”
“I know I’m right.”
She turned to him and gave him a soft kiss, before pulling back from him and giving him a look “You decide to take on the Irish mob by yourself again, you better hope they finish the job.”
He laughed lightly, before shaking his head, “Don’t worry. Never happening again.”
“Good.”
