Summary: Danny and Maka go on their first date.
Author's Note: I had a lot of fun writing this. Even though I realize now that I have Maka verbally abuse Danny quite a bit more than I should.

“I have an idea,” Danny said as he sat down on the edge of her desk.
“Well—this is new,” Maka said with a smirk, leaning back in her chair.
“Hey—” he said, giving her a look.
“You’re right, you’re right,” she nodded, “I take that back. I should wait to see if it’s a good one first.”
“Damnit, Maka, would you stop busting my chops and let me get this out,” he said sheepishly, and she laughed.
“Alright, I’ll back off,” she grinned, “What do you want?”
“Wanna grab some ice cream?”
She was taken aback slightly, “What?”
“Do you want to go get ice cream with me?”
“Why ice cream?”
He shrugged, “Thought it was enough to not be a date to everybody else, but enough that you could consider it a date.”
“Can I get a sundae?”
“Sure. Whatever you want.”
She paused for a minute, rocking slightly in her chair, “Alright. I get off shift at seven. That alright with you?”
“Perfect. I’ll see you after work then.”
“See you after work, Messer.”

“OK, so—” she began, picking up the cherry off the top of her sundae, “This is a date?”
“I was hoping,” he replied, watching her as she popped it into her mouth.
“So—” she grinned at him, before picking his cherry off the top of his sundae, “—I guess we should do date like things, am I right?”
“So what things would those be, Maka?” he asked, before snatching it away from her and popping it in his mouth.
“Well for one, you could call me Kaile,” she smirked, picking up the spoon starting to scoop up some of the whipped cream.
“Oh really?” he grinned.
“You know, for someone who’s so eager to call me it on the job—”
“I forgot alright,” he laughed, “You drilled it into me so often at work that I forgot that I could.”
“Well, you can, Messer,” she said.
“But this also means you have to call me Danny,” he said with a smirk, and she shook her head.
“Give me a minute—that’ll take some getting used to.”
“Have you ever called me Danny?”
“Why do you think it takes some getting used to?”
“Good point,” he nodded, before watching her as she scooped some of the whipped cream off the top, and slipped the spoon into her mouth, “You know, maybe considering that this is a date, we should stop busting each other’s chops—or rather, you should stop busting mine—and we should actually have normal first date conversation?”
“And what conversation would that be?” Maka replied, giving him a look.
“Well—”

“You surprised me, Danny,” Maka smirked as they walked over to the curb to flag down a cab, “I actually had a good time.”
“You know, I’m really beginning to regret asking you out, Kaile,” Danny shook his head, “I don’t think I need a girlfriend that’s tearing me down all the time.”
“Aww, c’mon,” she grinned, “You know I only do it because I like you.”
“Because you like me?” he said, giving her a look, “Why do I very much doubt that?”
“Really, Messer,” she smirked, “You know I wouldn’t agree to this unless I liked you.”
“I let you take free shots at me for an hour and a half,” he replied, “That would be a reason why to agree to it.”
“Fine,” she said before snaking a hand around the back of his neck and pulling him into a warm kiss. He could still taste the sweet of her ice cream on her lips, and he wrapped his arms around her waist to hold her closer. She pulled back from him with a small smile, “I wouldn’t do that unless I liked you, right?”
“Guess you’re right,” he smirked, watching as a cab pulled up to the curb. She pulled away from him with a grin.
“I’ll see ya later, Danny.”
“See ya, Kaile.”
