Lindsay slipped her hand into Brian’s as he walked her home from their latest dinner. They had been doing this boyfriend girlfriend thing for a while, and while she had to admit it was one of the more chaste relationships she had had in a while, she was comfortable right where they were. She knew eventually he was going to start looking for more, but for right now, she was happy to stay right where they were. It was—safe. She had never thought of him as a hand holder either, but he didn’t push her away when she did, so she took it as a good sign.

She knew that part of the reason why she wanted to stay right where they were was because she wasn’t sure if she could get a commitment out of him yet. She’d heard about his reputation from around the lab, and in her brief visits to the DA’s office, so she didn’t want to go too far and find out that was all he wanted. She was getting the impression that he liked her enough to stick with her, but she wanted to be sure before she dived all the way in.

“Nice night,” he said, looking up at the sky.

“Yeah. I heard it was going to—” she began and he cut her off.

“Don’t say it!” he protested, “If you say it, it will happen.”

“Sorry,” she grinned, “But I don’t mind the rain.”

“I do.”

“Why’s that?”

“Well—I’d get soaking wet.”

“Yeah—but I’d get soaking wet too,” she whispered, and he blinked at her for a minute, before shaking his head.

“That would cause other kinds of problems for me.”

“I know,” she replied sweetly, before thinking about it for a minute, “You’re right—we wouldn’t want to cause those problems, would we?”

“No—not right now, anyway,” he said, “Maybe—a little further down the road.”

“Sounds good to me,” she nodded with a smile. They dropped off into silence for a minute, before she looked up at him again, “You think we’re going somewhere?”

“I’m sorry?” he said, turning to look at her.

“This—us,” she said, “Do you think this is going to last—not forever or anything, but—at least for a while?”

He frowned at her for a minute, “If you want a commitment out of me, Lindsay, all you have to do is ask.”

“Really?” she said, slightly surprised.

“Really,” he laughed, “I’m not as hard to pin down as everyone thinks I am.”

She relaxed more, and grinned, “So—wanna be my boyfriend, Counselor?”

“I think that’s a great idea, Detective,” he grinned back, before they finally reached the last half a block till they got to her apartment.

There was a slight rumble overhead, and they both looked at each other in alarm, before starting to walk a bit faster. They barely got two steps before the sky opened up, and they both broke into a run to get to the awning of her building, but it didn’t do them much good. They were both soaked from head to toe by the time they got there, and Lindsay was laughing as she leaned against the front door trying to catch her breath.

“I told you not to say it,” he whined, trying to throw the water from his hands and arms.

“Sorry,” she said with grin, wiping the water away from her face, “I didn’t mean to get you all wet.”

“Uh-huh,” he said before walking over to her, and wrapping his arms around her waist. She could feel his wet clothes sliding against her, and wrapped her arms around his neck when he kissed her.

“I should go,” he whispered when he pulled back, and she frowned slightly.

“Do you have to?” she murmured as she pulled him back in for another kiss, hearing him groan slightly. His fingers slid around to the edge of her top, slipping onto the skin underneath and she shivered. He then pulled back, and she almost whimpered in disappointment.

“Lindsay—” he began, and she could almost hear the concern in his voice.

“As I said—I like the rain,” she replied, pulling him close again.

“I noticed,” he grinned as he kissed her lightly, “But I was thinking we should move this inside.”

Lindsay glanced around before blushing slightly. She then took his hand, and pulled him into her building.

“Yeah,” she nodded, “I think you may be right.”
