Danny left his arm around Christina’s shoulders as they walked back to her apartment. Danny was feeling a bit too woozy for his taste, and he had recommended that he and Christina head out. The relations between the two parties had somewhat deteriorated over the course of the night, and Christina couldn’t have agreed more.
“Well—” he murmured, leaning on her slightly, “That was an interesting evening.”
“Lawyers, cops, and alcohol should never be in the same room,” Christina shook her head, “I swear, you deciding it was time to go was probably the best idea you had all night.”
“Once in a blue moon I get a good one,” he grinned, and she returned the smile before leaning into his shoulder.
“Where did Jim and Stella disappear to?”
“Honestly,” he said, giving her a look, “I don’t want to know. But I’ll bet you anything Maka will wheedle it out of her by end of the day tomorrow and she’ll be telling everyone else on a need to know basis.”
“You cops are such gossips,” Christina shook her head, “The ADA’s office isn’t nearly as bad.”
“Oh, that’s bullshit,” he said, shaking his head, “You guys are twice as bad.”
“Oh, really?” she said, stopping in the street and turning to face him.
“Really,” Danny said, facing her as well with his hands on his hips.
“How do you intend to prove that?”
“After you told Jess, how long did it take for the rest of the office to know that we were going out?”
Christina hesitated for a minute, thinking, “About two days. But Steele and Cabot didn’t find out for weeks. Mac was the first one to find out about us.”
“Yeah—but he never told anyone,” Danny replied, “He kept his mouth shut until everyone else found out about it, and if it wasn’t for Jess telling Flack, no one on my end would have ever known.”
“Yeah, but when Jess did tell Flack, everyone on your end knew about it by the end of the day. Meaning it took longer on the ADA end, and that means I win.”
Danny opened his mouth as though to say something, raising a finger, and then shook his head, “Why do I even bother arguing with you? You do it for a living.”
She grinned before turning and starting to walk again. “It’s alright. At least we managed to keep it to ourselves for a while. When people were talking about Brian and Lindsay, it was pretty much the day after they met in that bar.”
“That’s very true,” Danny nodded, following her, “And that time—you beat us out for fastest round the office.”
“OK,” she nodded, “So I think we’re about tied for being the worst gossips.”
“I can agree to that,” Danny nodded, placing his arm around her waist again.
They continued walking in the direction of her apartment, when a guy coming out of his apartment spotted them. He was wearing a scream mask and black robe so they couldn’t see his face, and he turned and shouted at them.
“Look at this, we got a couple refugees from Pirates of the Caribbean,” he jeered, and Danny and Christina just looked at each other.
“Look at this, we got a guy who thinks he’s funny,” Danny replied.
“Aw, c’mon man—I’m just making a joke,” he jeered, before turning on Christina and looking her up and down, “Well—how you doin’?”
Danny put a protective hand around her shoulders, and looked at the guy. Christina put a hand on his chest, and gave him a look, “I’m good. And I’m not interested.”
“Well—” He looked Danny up and down for a minute, before scoffing slightly, “—I could tell that much. But listen, if you ever get tired of this one, you’re more than welcome to shiver my timbers any time you like.”
“Look, buddy,” Danny, “I don’t think she’s particularly interested in a guy who makes bad pirate puns when he’s trying to pick her up.”
“I think I’d like to hear that from the lady herself if you don’t mind.”
“As I said—” Christina began, “I’m not interested.”
“You’re saying that now, but I wonder what you’re gonna say when he’s not standing right there.
“Hey, asshole,” Danny said, before pointing to himself, “NYPD detective. And she’s an assistant district attorney. Ya wanna keep pushing it?”
The guy looked at Christina, and she nodded her head, and he started to back off, “Sorry—I—I didn’t know.”
“Course ya didn’t,” Danny replied, watching him as they walked away. Christina just made a face and turned back to him.
“I wonder why he though that would work.”
“Same reason why he thought it would be OK to hit on my girl right in front of me,” Danny said as he started to walk again.
“You know—I could have handled him on my own,” she said, before giving him a kiss on the cheek, “But I appreciate it.”
“Do you?” he said with a smile, turning to face her as they walked.
“Yeah—” she grinned, “It’s nice to know I’ve got a guy who won’t just stand back and let them hit on me like that.”
Danny turned on her in surprise, “You’ve met guys who would do that?”
“A friend of my boyfriend’s in college was blatantly hitting on me, and my boyfriend didn’t do anything about it, no matter how many times I asked him to stop,” Christina said.
“I would have kicked his ass,” Danny replied, shaking his head.
“As I said,” she grinned, moving closer to him, “I’m glad I got a guy who won’t do nothing.”
“Glad I could be of help,” Danny grinned.
“So glad that I think there might be something in it for you if you decide to—stick around tonight?”
His grin widened. “Avhast me hearties yo ho.”
She laughed and smacked him in the chest, “I thought you learned something from that guy back there.”
“Alright, alright, no more bad pirate puns,” he grinned, “So long as I’m still welcome?”
“Always,” she grinned back.

And your Danny/Christina fic is slowly but surely getting done. It's set during/after "Hostage". One of my favorite Conviction episodes. But! I claimed Steele/Rossi at

ooo--post-"Hostage." i loved that episode. and steele/rossi? really? i never really was a fan, but i'll read anyway. i'm guess it's a lot of angst?

And, uh? crack!pairing of dooooom = Steele/Christina. Because I was watching one episode, the one where Christina did the closing argument? And at the end of the episode Christina was talking to Alex, and she said, "Steele. I thought he didn't like me." And Alex goes, "He let you do closing, didn't he?" And Christina had this little smile on her face and I got all shippy.

i really didn't find someone i liked to ship him with on that show, so i started writing him with stella and they just kinda clicked for me.
but i could definitely jump on board steele/christina. i still maintain that she was his favorite ADA. no matter how much he tried to deny it.
