Brian was annoyed.

He had been trying for a week to get some kind of dirt on Potter to try and keep him in his place, but so far he had fail miserably. Everything he could come up with was either widely known or not diabolical enough, and he was starting to reach the end of his rope. There had to be something on Potter that would make him miserable if everyone were to find out, but Brian just couldn’t seem to find it.

He watched as Nick and Jess chatted in their office, and his mind plotted, wheels spinning as he tried to formulate a plan for getting dirt on Nick. He waited until Nick ran out for dinner—he was planning on working late again—and Jess was left standing in their office, putting together the files on her desk and get ready to go home for the day. Once Nick was out of sight, Brian snuck his way over to her, and gave her a grin.

“How ya doin’, Rossi?”

“What do you want, Peluso?” she asked, not looking up from what she was doing.

“Doin’ anything tonight?”

“No,” she sighed. “For once I get to go home, and do absolutely nothing. I can’t wait.”

“Great—wanna have a drink?”

“What part of that did you not understand?”

“Look, I need to find something on Potter, and I need an accomplice.”

“Then find someone else,” Jess shook her head. “I’m not biting.”

“C’mon Rossi,” Brian whined, giving her a look. “Don’t you want to know what Potter does here after hours?”

“How do you know he does things after hours?” Jess asked, giving him a look.

“He’s been working a lot of late nights this week,” Brian replied. “There’s got to be something going on that’s juicy enough to blackmail him with for a while.”

“Blackmail—what?”

“Rossi—you do know that all the good blackmail fodder happens after hours.”

Jess blinked at him for a minute, before speaking again, “You do know that—”

“Blackmail is illegal, yes—but that hasn’t stopped anyone before.” Brian gave her a grin, before turning to head out. “I’m gonna run home, get my camera, and I’ll meet you out front in a half an hour.”

Jess watched him, gaping slightly, as he disappeared around the corner, before looking back down at her briefcase and shaking her head.

“What have I just gotten myself into?”

“I don't know about this Peluso,” Jess sighed as Brian led her around the corner. “We shouldn't be spying on our coworkers.”

“First of all, Rossi,” he whispered. “This isn't our coworker. This is Potter. He's the new kid. We need blackmail to keep him in his place.”

“Well, what makes you think we're going to find it?” Jess asked. “It's after hours. He might not even be here.”

“Oh, I think he is,” Brian nodded, before grabbing her arm and pulling her into his office. “And anything blackmail worthy always happens after hours.”

She rolled her eyes but went along with him, ducking behind his door, and watching as he pulled up the blinds on his door, as well as opening the video camera he had brought with him. And then they waited.

It was a minute before the lights in the bullpen went on, and Jess and Brian perked up slightly. They peered just over the edge of the door, and watched as Nick came out of the office he shared with Jess and looked around, making sure the coast was clear. He then went back into the office and came out carrying a boom box. He plugged it into the wall, and started blasting music as loudly as he could.

You know its kinda hard just to get along today
Our subject isn't cool, but he fakes it anyway
He may not have a clue, and he may not have style
But everything he lacks, well he makes up in denial

Jess and Brian both recognized the song instantly, and looked at each other in surprise. Then they let out a sputtering laugh when Nick started to bust a move—quite badly—all through the bullpen. Brian was having a hard time holding the camera straight, he was laughing so hard, and Jess's sides were starting to hurt from having to keep it quiet. But they managed to make it through the entire song undetected, Brian thinking that they were coming away from this with more than he had ever hoped for.

Once the song was over, Nick's back turned long enough when he went to turn off the song for Jess and Brian to emerge from his office. When Nick turned around, his face went white, and he gaped at the sight of them there.

“Nice moves, Potter,” Brian grinned, flipping open the camera to watch it again. “You're gonna have to teach me a thing or two sometime.”

“You guys—what are you—how did you—oh, fuck,” Nick sighed, running a hand over his face. “I'm so screwed, aren't I?”

“Oh, yeah," Jess nodded. “You're really screwed.”

“Excuse me,” Nick sighed, starting to walk back to their office. “I'm going to go bang my head against the wall now.”
