College football was never something Sam really got into, but he was a bit of a lemming when it came to his friends. So when his friends proposed a trip to San Francisco to see a game, he was definitely in. He knew they could always use another driver, and Jess had plans with friends, so he decided to head down with them. While he refused to go all out—painting his face was not his idea of a good time—he didn’t mind sitting in the stands and watching the game with his friends—even if his team lost. And when they all voted on sticking around for the post-game party, Sam didn’t have any other choice. He tagged along with them, waiting for when they decided they wanted him to drive their drunken asses back to Palo Alto.

He wandered over to the bar and leaned against it, watching as the people laughed and shouted at each other over the music. He shook his head before taking the beer that was offered to him, wishing his friends had decided that they were better off not attending a party at the school of the winning team when Stanford had lost.

But then again, Stanford always lost.

He wandered his way through the throngs of people in front of him, until he had reached the back porch of the frat house. There was more fresh air there, and he needed a minute to just breathe before he threw himself back into the party again. He leaned against the railing of the porch and spotted a blond sitting on the porch swing, one knee pulled up to her chest and using the other to rock her back and forth. She looked a little uncomfortable, and a bit bored. He tilted his head slightly, and gave her a small smile.

“Not having a good time?”

She looked up at him and gave him a bright smile, “Nah, that’s not it. Just kinda weird—being inside when everyone else is drinking.”

“Ah,” he nodded, “I know that feeling.”

“Yeah,” she sighed, before studying him slightly, “You sound surprisingly coherent. Any reason you’re not drinking?”

“Well, first of all—I’m the designated driver,” Sam sighed, “Secondly—I don’t feel like drowning my sorrows.”

Her eyes went wide and her mouth formed an “O”, “Ahhh—you’re a Stanford boy.”

“That I am.”

“Well, that’s unfortunate,” she sighed, turning so that she was facing him more, patting the swing next to her, “Sorry you got your ass kicked like that.”

He shrugged, “I don’t really follow football.”

“Me either,” she shrugged, “But you just kinda get swept up in it, right? The whole school spirit thing?” She smirked, “And next thing you know you’re in San Francisco in a frat house with a bunch of drunk friends, waiting for them to party themselves out.”

“Yeah,” he nodded, “Something like that.”

“Trust me,” she sighed, “I feel your pain.”

“I’m Sam,” he grinned, holding his hand out to her.

“Billie,” she nodded, shaking his hand, “So—sounds like you’re stuck here.”

“Yup,” he nodded, “At least I’ve got company.”

“Yeah, she grinned, “Yeah, you do.”

Billie and Sam talked for a few hours, before she gave him a grin, “God, I hope those rumors aren’t true.”

“What rumors?” he asked, curious.

“There are vicious rumors floating around that all the Stanford boys have steady girlfriends.”

“Well, for me that rumor happens to be true,” Sam nodded, “Sorry.”

“Oh well,” she sighed, “Worth a shot.” She tilted her head to the side slightly, “What’s your girl’s name?”

“Jessica,” he said, his face lighting up slightly, “She’s—amazing.”

“Amazing, huh?” Billie sighed, “Sounds like you’re officially off the market.”

“If she’ll have me, maybe,” Sam nodded, “She’s—she’s something else.”

“You know—I hope you make her as happy as she makes you,” she nodded, pulling her knees up to her chest, “You’re—not like most guys.”

Sam tensed slightly for a minute—as if she knew more about him than he was saying—but he relaxed almost instantly, and gave her a grin. “I take it that’s a good thing?”

“It’s a pretty good thing,” she nodded, returning his smile, “I’m actually kinda a bit jealous.”

“You shouldn’t be,” he shook his head, “I don’t think I’m as great as you think.”

“I have a feeling you’re wrong.”

He was about to contradict her again, when a group came stumbling out of the party. Jonathan squinted for a minute, before breaking out into a grin. “Winchester! There you are. Dude, you’re missing the party.”

“Just—came out for some air,” Sam said, giving his friend a look. Jonathan looked from him to the woman next to him, and his grin widened.

“Sam—you sly dog.” Sam rolled his eyes, before getting up from the swing, and grasping his friend around the shoulders.

“OK, dude,” he sighed, “Time to head home.”

“Don’t worry about me tellin’ Jessie, man,” Jonathan grinned, “My lips are sealed.”

Sam shook his head before turning back to Billie, “Nice meeting you.”

“Nice meeting you too,” she said, waving and watching him as he stumbled off into the darkness. She sighed heavily, and seriously hoped his girlfriend in Palo Alto knew what she had coming home to her.

I vaguely remember Billie from my occasional Charmed viewings, but I really do like this story, especially the last bit that she's thinking.

I liked Billie, and she was only on for a season, but she was fun.
