Him running wouldn't be a complete waste though. I mean, despite the show he runs, he is a journalist, so he's fluent in the issues. He could put up a pretty good race if he put his head into it, and I'd rather be voting for him than some of the other candidates that are out there.
Yes, you are preaching to the choir on that score. One of the Republican candidates stated in a debate that Hizbollah was based in Afghanistan. It makes me weep for the fate of humanity.

I think I'd like it of Colbert was President though. I mean--he's not an idiot. He knows the issues, even if he mostly makes fun of them, and he'd definitely give a good campaign--and he'd get the young people's vote, which is what everyone seems to be striving for nowadays. I think it would be interesting if he ran, at least--just to have him among all those old stuffy politicians.
