You don't have to read it in order to get this, but it might be easier if you do.

Dan Cooper stopped in his tracks when he saw the woman leaning at the front desk of the crimelab. She was hot. She wasn’t very tall, but she was obviously in good shape. She was wearing a dark business suit that clung in all the right places, and her dark hair was pulled back into a low ponytail, and she hazel eyes looked searchingly over the rest of the room. His eyes went wide when her eyes fell on him, and she gave him a wide smile.
“Hi,” she sighed, “You work here?”
“Huh?” he frowned, and she laughed.
“Do you work here?”
He snapped himself out of it for a second, before giving her a grin, “Yeah, I do. Who you looking for?” Probably Delko.
“Ryan Wolfe?” she asked and he blinked before responding.
“Yeah, he’s here,” Dan replied, nodding towards the direction of the labs, “I’ll help you find him.”
“Thanks,” she nodded, before following him.
“So, how do you know Ryan?” Dan asked.
“Oh we’re—involved,” she sighed slowly, hoping that he would take the hint, and this small talk wouldn’t move on to flirting.
“Oh,” he replied. He sounded a bit disappointed, but not too crushed, which is what she was hoping for, “Well, maybe he’s mentioned me? Dan Cooper?”
“Cooper,” she thought for a second, “Oh—he’s mentioned you.” She decided she was just going to leave it at that, and not mention the fact that Ryan usually complained to her about him when Cooper was grating his last nerve.
“Really? Good things?”
Caroline froze, thinking about it for a second, before she spotted Ryan coming around the corner. “Sweetie!” she sighed, before running to him and throwing her arms around his neck.
“Itoldhimwe’redatingplayalong,” she whispered before giving him a warm kiss. Ryan was caught slightly off guard, but not enough to make it look like they had never done this before.
“Cora, what are you doing here?” Ryan frowned.
“What are you talking about?” she said, giving him a look, “We’re supposed to be having lunch.”
“Oh, right!” Ryan shook his head, “Sorry. Hit my head yesterday.” She gave him a sympathetic look, before running her hand over the back of his head, smoothing his hair back. His eyes landed on Cooper, and then went back to the woman next to him, “You’ve met Cooper?”
“Well, I didn’t get her name,” Dan spoke up, and she gave him a smile.
“Keep forgetting my manners,” she shook her head, “Caroline Gaynor.”
“Nice to meet you,” he replied, “Well, I gotta get back to work. See you later, Wolfe.”
As Cooper disappeared, Ryan turned back to her and gave her a look, but didn’t pull away from her. People may not have been able to hear what they were saying, but the walls were made of glass, and they probably did see her kiss him.
“OK, what are you really doing here?” Ryan asked.
“Melinda called me,” she sighed, “Said you were having a bit of a—problem.” A coy look crossed her face, and he knew that she wasn’t just doing that for the benefit of their audience.
“I don’t have time for semantics, Cora,” he replied, “The problem is a bit more serious than that.”
“Which is why we are having lunch,” she stated, licking her lips slightly, “So that you can let me know what’s—up.”
Ryan shook his head with a smile, “We can’t go to a restaurant. Too public.”
“So we’ll go back to my hotel. Room service,” she said, raising an eyebrow in his direction, and the smile widened.
“Fine. Give me ten minutes?”
“Sure,” she replied, giving him another kiss on the cheek, “Don’t keep me waiting though.” She started to walk away from him, “My car’s waiting outside when you’re ready.”
Ryan shook his head as she walked away, “Melinda had to call her.”

“So have you really gone back yet?” Caroline asked as they sat in her hotel room, to-go containers of food in their hands. They had decided against the room service, and just grabbed food from a restaurant on their way back.
“Not yet,” Ryan shook his head, “And I don’t think Calleigh has either.”
“Calleigh?” she frowned.
“A woman I work with. She was further from the gateway than I was, but I think she still got sucked in too,” he replied. He was sitting on the edge of her bed, and she was sitting on an armchair across from him. He placed to food down on the table next to him and ran his hand over his eyes, “What the big concern is, is that Delko and Rachel got sucked in completely, let alone the fact that Delko was kidnapped by those damn pirates.”
“Bastards,” Caroline muttered, “How’d they get the power to cross over anyway?”
“Do I look like I know?” he snapped at her, and she looked shocked. He pinched his eyes closed and shook his head, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I’m just—”
“Stressed,” she said softly, “I know.” She placed her food down and walked over running her hand over his shoulders as she kneeled behind him.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“Helping you relax,” she whispered in his ear, “You can’t think when you’re stressed like this.” She pulled against his suit jacket, “C’mon, take off your jacket.”
Caroline, we don’t have time—”
“We can talk as I work,” she replied, before she finally felt him relent and peel the jacket from his shoulders. Her fingers dug into the tense muscle and she frowned, “God, you’re so tense. When was the last time you took a vacation?”
“There hasn’t exactly been a lot of time for that,” Ryan replied, “We just closed a big case.”
She thought for a second before responding, “The Bonnie and Clyde one?”
He turned to her in surprise, and she faced him forward again. “How’d you hear about that in Georgia?”
“It was on the news,” she replied, “And yes occasionally I do watch the news. Especially when they mention something about Miami Dade.”
He took a deep breath and leaned back into her. One arm slipped between his and his body, while the other came across his shoulder, holding him to her. “I don’t know how I’m going to do this, Cora,” he murmured, “I’m not that man anymore. I don’t know if I can be that man anymore.”
“I know,” she whispered, before brushing a kiss against his cheek, “But we’ll figure it out, alright? You’re not alone.”
“I know,” he replied, and a slight laugh rumbled through his chest, “Doesn’t change the fact that I still don’t know what I’m doing.”
“Yeah, well,” Caroline replied, “You usually don’t. That’s what you have me for.”
“Thanks Caroline. Thanks a lot.”

Calleigh was down in autopsy with Alexx Woods, when she stared to feel it. It was a soft feeling, like the wet nose of a dog brushing her face. She cringed slightly, before looking around in confusion.
“Calleigh, honey, you alright?” Alexx asked, pausing in her explanation of her findings.
“Fine,” Calleigh shook her head, “I must have hit my head harder than I thought yesterday.”
“You and Ryan both hit the ground pretty hard,” Alexx frowned, “Are you sure you don’t want to go home, get some rest, sweetie? I could pass these off to Horatio myself.”
“No,” she shook her head, “I’m fine. Just a little—dizzy.”
The next sensation was more insistent, the rough texture of a dog’s tongue sweeping across her face. The frown on her face deepened, and she felt her arms making a motion as though to push it away, but she wasn’t moving. Then she started to feel very, very cold. It was cold down in the morgue to begin with, but it was starting to get colder, and her skin was getting goosebumps like a cold wind was whipping across it. And the tongue just wouldn’t stop, no matter how hard she tried to fight it off.
“Calleigh? Baby, are you sure you—”
—Calleigh could feel the wet cold of the snow on her body, and as she opened her eyes, she found herself face to face with what had to be one of the largest wolves she had ever seen. She started to windmill her arms and pull herself away from him, but he animal was sitting on her chest. She tried to scream, but suddenly, the top half of the wolf was human, and he had one hand covering her mouth, and the other held to his lips.
“Shhhh—it’s alright,” he murmured soothingly, trying to calm her and keep her from squirming, “It’s alright. I’m not going to kill you.” His voice had a light accent to it, but one that Calleigh couldn’t place. She recognized it, but couldn’t put a name to it.
“No, I’m not going to kill you, not now. You want to know why?”
She couldn’t move the rest of her body, much less nod her head, so she just stared back at him, eyes wide with fear.
“Because I want him—” he pointed to the side of her, and he watched as her eyes followed his finger to where Ryan was lying, still unconscious, next to him, “—to watch when I do.”
