Coulda Been Like This...

Fandom: CSI:NY and CSI.
Title: Coulda Been Like This...
Author: [livejournal.com profile] iluvroadrunner6
Rating: FRT
Characters: Danny Messer/Angela Malone (OC), Nick Stokes/Valerie Malone (OC), Sheldon Hawkes/Lilly Harper (OC), Don Flack/Chelsea Carlson (OC), John Benson (OC)/Jennifer Angell
Content Warning: N/A
Summary: Five ways the AU could have gone.
Author's Note: Written for [livejournal.com profile] goddess_loki in response to the Five Pairings Meme. Since it's her birthday, I said I'd write her one with one of my OCs. She gave me five options, and I decided to write one for all of them. The Val one felt kinda weird to me, considering it's Nick, and Val is played by Krista Allen, but Val said it was either Don, Nick or no one. She's not so fond of being whored out.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of CSI or CSI:NY. They are owned by CBS.

Danny Messer/Angela Malone

He felt her fingers brush his as she came up next to him, and he looked up in surprise, but didn’t smile. They were at work. Time to pretend they hated each other. “What’s up?”

“My boss doesn’t trust you,” she whispered, “He sent me to keep an eye on you.”

“So we’re supposed to be grudgingly getting along?” he asked.

“Well, we can fake a fight, if you think it’ll make it look more realistic.”

“What if I just spun around and kissed you?” he said, turning slightly so that he was looking at her, “What do you think your boss would do?”

He saw a smile flicker at the corner of her mouth, “I think he might shoot you.”

“Really?”

“Dead serious.” He laughed slightly before turning back to the evidence in front of him. She leaned a little closer so that she was really whispering.

“I had a really great time last night.”

“Me too,” he replied with a grin, “Maybe next time we could try it at your place?”

“My place?”

“You do have the bigger bed. And room service.”

“Very true,” she mused, “So tonight sound good? If we ever get out of here.”

“Tonight sounds fantastic.”

“Great. See you then.”

Nick Stokes/Valerie Malone

“Agent Malone?” Nick said as he rapped on the door of the room Val was using for a makeshift office. She gave him a bright smile as he came in.

“What can I do for you?”

“I have those records you asked for.” She nodded as she took them from him.

“Thanks, Mr. Stokes.”

“It’s Nick,” he said, and she looked up with a smirk.

“Then it’s Val.”

“Fair enough,” he nodded, before gesturing to the chair in front of her, “Do you mind?”

“Not at all,” Val stated, and he sat down for a second, running his hands over his thighs before speaking.

“Are you doing anything—after shift?”

“Nope,” she shook her head, “Well—this is almost over—so I’ll probably be driving back to LA.”

“I was wondering if you’d wait on that for a little bit, and maybe have breakfast with me?”

Val looked up and was entirely amused to see the nervous look on his face, “Don’t ask out federal agents often?”

“No, not really.”

“Well, I’d love to—”

Sheldon Hawkes/Lilly Harper

She looked dead on her feet. He was about to tell her to give him five minutes and he’d drive her home when she spotted him, walked over and pulled him into a hug.

“I’m tired,” she sighed, resting her head on his shoulder.

“I can tell,” he murmured, rubbing her back softly, “Want me to take you home?”

“I can’t,” Lilly shook her head, “I have a case I’m supposed to be working on.”

“How long have you been here?” he asked, suddenly concerned.

“I’ve only been here a few hours, but I got maybe two hours of sleep before I was called out on this case.”

“Does Mac know this?” She gave a lazy shrug before closing her eyes against his chest. He took a step backwards and she stopped him.

“You’re moving. Why are you moving?”

He grinned, “Because I’m going to go tell Mac what you just told me, so he can send you home.”

“Do I have to?”

“Lilly—”

“OK,” she murmured, before letting him turn her around so that she was facing away from him, and starting to walk her towards the door of the locker room.

Don Flack/Chelsea Carlson

“Look, man, I’m not here to hurt anybody,” Don sighed, staring at the short black man in front of him, holding his hands up slightly, “I’m here to see Chelsea. She’s my girlfriend.”

“You say that now,” Frankie replied, cocking his shot gun, “But there are maaaaany flights of stairs between here and the loft. And for all I know, you’re not her boyfriend, and you’re here to rape and rob her and Eva.”

“Why would I do that?” he asked, giving the man a look, before pushing his suit jacket aside to show him his badge, suddenly glad he had come straight from work, “I’m a cop.”

“Are you really?”

“Yes,” Don sighed, “Really.”

“I’m going to call up and check that,” Don waited as the man reached into the guard stand and hit a few numbers. “Hi, Eva! It’s Frankie.—Well, I’ve got a guy down here, who claims that he’s Chelsea’s boyfriend.—That’s what I thought, I didn’t know she had one.—Yup, claims he’s a cop too.—Uh-huh—Uh-huh.—Well, that settle’s it the—”

There was a slam of a door far above them, and the thunder of feet on the stairs that was accompanied by a panicked voice shouting.

“FRANKIE, DON’T SHOOT!!!!”

John Benson/Jennifer Angell

“Now—what happened again?” the doctor said as he stared down at John’s hand which was bruised and throbbing at this point, taking on a distinct purple hue. John and Jennifer looked at each other, before looking back at him.

“Well, I was teaching her stage combat,” John explained, “And I was blocking for one strike, while she was actually coming from an angle, and I couldn’t move quickly enough to block, and she caught me across the knuckles.”

The doctor looked at them, then to Jennifer, and she nodded that that was the truth. The doctor crossed his arm across his chest, as though he didn’t believe them. John started laughing slightly, and then grinned.

“We’re kidding dude, we’re kidding,” he sighed, “I slammed my hand in a car door.”

“You shouldn’t lie about stuff like that,” the other man sighed.

“Sorry,” he sighed, “I’m a bit accident prone, so I’m in here a lot. It’s fun to switch things up from the usual.”

“Well, I think it might be broken,” the doctor stated, before releasing his hand, “But I want to do an x-ray to confirm.” John nodded, and the man left to set it up, while John shot a glare at his girlfriend.

“You broke my hand!”
