ladyiapetus in response to the Five Pairings Meme. Horatio was probably the hardest out of all of them, because after all, he is Horatio, but hopefully I did him justice.
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters of CSI, CSI: Miami, or CSI:NY. They are owned by CBS.
Marisol Delko
One of the things he had absolutely loved about Marisol was her smile. It didn’t come often, but when it did, she could light up and entire room if she tried. He really did want to give her everything she wanted, because he knew that if he did, he might not ever stop seeing that smile.
She wanted to have a normal life, outside the cancer, and the troubles her family was having, and he was more than willing to give it to her. It was worth it in the end, to know that she was happy without there having to be any kind of reciprocation for him in return.
“I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to repay you for all this, Horatio,” she’d begin, and he’d just cut her off with a small shake of his head.
“Your smile, my dear—is all I need.”
***
Yelina Salas
Whatever whispers of what could have been between him and Yelina died with the death of his brother it seemed. His real death, mind you, not the death the Narcotics division of the government faked for him. After he died in Rio, Yelina—didn’t look at him the same way any more. That spark, whatever it was that was there, seemed to be long gone, with no chance of coming back.
He had seen it fading when they were discussing how they were going to get Ray Junior back, and he wasn’t going to like about the fact that it hurt him. But there was nothing he could do about it. Nothing he could say or do was going to stop her feelings from disappearing. It wasn’t as though she could control them or manipulate them. They were just—there or not.
And in the case of whatever there was between him and Yelina, he could see as she climbed into the cab to go back home—where ever home was—that the feelings just weren’t there.

Stella Bonasera
“Detective Bonasera,” he said, taking his sunglasses off as she walked over to him, “We meet again.”
“How are you Lieutenant?”
“I’m fine,” he nodded, “I’ll be even better when we get the guy who did this behind bars.”
“Glad we’re on the same page.”
“What do you have for me?” he asked, and she went over the results with him quickly before gesturing in the direction of the interrogation room. As they walked, Horatio continued to speak.
“Tell me, Stella, are we still on for dinner tonight?”
Stella gave him a bright smile before cringing slightly, “I don’t know. Depends if we get a break in this case or not.”
“I hope—that this isn’t your way of standing me up, Miss Bonasera.”
“Oh, believe me, Horatio,” she laughed, “If I was standing you up, I’d be a lot less honest.”
***
Catherine Willows
“Lieutenant Caine,” the blond woman said with a smile, “Good to see you again.”
“Miss Willows,” he said, taking off his sunglasses and giving her a smile, “We have to stop meeting like this.” Catherine laughed.
“Tell me about it,” she nodded her head towards the lab behind her, “Let me show you around.”
“I’m going to have to talk to the homicide detective on the case,” he said, turning to face the woman, “We can’t afford to lose any time on this.”
“I hear ya, Horatio,” Catherine replied, “But you wandering around the lab lost isn’t going to do us very much good now, is it?”
“No,” Horatio said with a smile, “No, it will not.”
“Good,” Catherine said, returning the smile, “I’m glad we agree.”
***
Calleigh Duquesne
“Calleigh?” Horatio’s voice echoed over the metal doors of the locker room, and Calleigh turned to face him slowly. Today had been a pretty close call for her, and while she didn’t seem too shaken up, he knew her better than that.
“Yes, Horatio?” she said, pasting on the best smile she could.
“Sweetheart, how are you doing?”
“I’m fine,” she sighed, “Just a bit shaky, that’s all.”
“Are you sure?” he asked again, the concern showing on his face.
“Positive,” she nodded.
“Well—I’m here if you need me.”
“I know, Horatio,” she replied, looking into her locker before turning to face him again, “I know.”
“I know you do. Just—leaving a reminder.”

I also love the Stella/Horatio thing too. She'd so totally kick his cliche-loving ass.
Great work!

and stella would so kick his ass.
i'm glad you liked it.

I think my favorite is probably the Horatio/Catherine drabble. If Stella for some reason couldn't kick Horatio's ass, Catherine probably would.

horatio/catherine was my favorite as well. it was the one that flowed most naturally for me.

i'm not so fond of him either.he's really hard to write. just because...he's horatio.
i'm glad you liked it.
