“You know, this is the part of your job that I never got.”
Parker looked over at him with a glare as they both lay on their stomachs in the vents above the gallery. “Shhh!” she hissed, pressing a finger to her lips. “They’ll hear you!”
Neal sighed, resting his chin in his hand as he looked down through the grate to the floor below. “Is there a reason why we couldn’t do this my way?”
“You way involves people trust you,” Parker said quietly. “My way means I only have to trust me.”
“Right.” He fell silent for a moment, watching as the people mill about beneath them. “I think next time? We should try it my way.”
She snorted. “And why would we do that?”
“Because it’d be fun?” he smirked. “And it’s a challenge.”
“So?”
“It’s not like you to back down from a challenge, Parker,” he pointed out. “And a good thief is meant to be … flexible.”
There was a devious flash in her eyes, before she smirked at him. “You’ve never had complaints about my flexibility before.”
Neal faltered for a moment before shaking his head. “That’s not what I meant, and you know it.” Parker smirked, before peering down into the grate again. She was quiet for a long time before he had to speak up again. “You didn’t answer me, Parker.”
“Time to go,” she quipped before pulling open the grate and starting to drop down through the hole. She was gone too quickly for Neal to say otherwise, and he just sighed, before reaching for his own rigging to get himself down through the hole.
“Of course it is.”
