Hardison and Buffy were having a fair amount of fun when Cora called them from downstairs. It took him a minute to untangle himself from Buffy and actually pick up the phone, but when he did, the last thing he expected was to hear that some chick had sucker punched Eliot and taken him out.

“Sorry, Cora, can you say that again?”

“Some girl came in askin’ for you. Eliot tried to get her attention and the next thing I know, Eliot’s on the ground and the girl is laying into him.”

“Yeah, we’ll be down in a second.” He hung up the phone, and gave Buffy a concerned look. “Did you tell your friend to ask for me downstairs like I told you to?”

“Who, Faith? Yeah—why?”

“Because if she’s the chick downstairs, she just started wailing on Eliot for no reason?”

Buffy froze for a moment. She considered this for all of two seconds, before she was up and running for the door. “Oh no. Ohnononononono.”

“Buffy—”

“Stop Faith now! Explain later!”

Hardison watched her run for the door before sighing and following her lead. Whatever this was, this didn’t seem good. By the time they arrived downstairs, the woman Hardison was assuming was Faith had Eliot over one of the tables and was beating the crap out of him. Buffy quickly rushed between them, pulling Faith off Eliot and shoving her off to put a little more space between them.

“Faith, what are you doing?”

“He works for Wolfram and Hart,” Faith spat back, trying to get around Buffy. “Asshole hired me to kill Angel back in the day.”

Buffy blinked, before glancing back at Eliot in confusion. “Did you?”

“I don’t even know who that is,” Eliot replied. “And I’ve never seen her before.”

“He’s lying. I know his face.” Faith was pretty pissed. Hardison thought Eliot should consider himself lucky that Hardison’s girlfriend had superpowers. Faith however, wasn’t backing down. “His name’s Lindsey McDonald.”

There was a flash of something on Eliot’s face—it was hard to tell through the bruising—and he straightened a bit. Not much, given that Faith had dealt several hard blows to the head, but enough. “Lindsey McDonald was my cousin. And he’s dead.”

The tension came out of Faith in a rush. Her shoulders deflated as she tipped her head to look at him. “Seriously?”

“Yeah,” Eliot replied, clearly very irritated. “Seriously.”

“Oh.” There was a moment of awkward silence, and Faith took a step back from Buffy, and gave a small shrug. “My bad?”

“You’re—” There was a growl, and Hardison just hoisted Eliot up into his shoulders to support him a little more.

“C’mon, man. Let’s go ice your face.”

Eliot resisted for a moment, but eventually he went along with him, grumbling to himself as he went. “Who the hell was that psycho?”

“That?” Hardison sighed as he glanced back over his shoulder. “That’s Faith. It’s a long story that even I wish I didn’t know.” There was another beat before he spoke up again. “Gonna tell me about Lindsey?”

Eliot looked up at him for a moment, and for a second, Hardison thought he just might open up, but instead he shoved himself off Hardison’s shoulders and pushed towards the elevator. “No.”
