i give up on ff.net.
this does not mean i will stop using it, because it's pretty damn useful in keeping things together, but i just...give up.
it's more of the readers mostly. not saying all of them are bad, but i can't seem to get anything more than a squee related stuff from them. either that, or questions about things that i HAVE MADE CLEAR IN THE AUTHOR'S NOTES.
for example, i finally got the Don/Val, Eric/Angie and Angie-David fics i've been writing together and posted them up on ff.net. simple enough. i get an anon review from someone asking me if i knew that Don was David's boss. and not only did she (i'm assuming it's a she, the name was feminine) leave an anon review, she didn't even leave an e-mail address so that i could explain to her what i had clearly put in the author's notes.
that it was AU. and pre-series.
and not once did i ever imply that don and david were equals in the working sense (or, i don't think i did). but i do have Don working under someone (who i later kill) in the beginning of the fics. because not much is given about when Don came back to LA and started working there, so i took a little bit of creative liberties, came up with a bit of backstory.
while i do appreciate the few readers who actually read my work and give me more than just "omg so cute great story" (and some of my stuff warrants only that i will give it that much) when i signed up for ff.net the site said that this is a place for future writers to come and help hone their craft, and that concrit is encouraged. not be spammed by squee and get no pointers whatsoever.
and then there's the issues they have with getting alerts out for anything and everything, and i'm beginning to think more and more that ff.net is just a real joke. it makes me want to bang my head against a wall.

The alert thing is just a recent issue, at least for me. I've never really had issues getting alerts, but in the past couple of weeks I haven't gotten any.
As for the readers... ugh! I have a couple of stories up there and one is in progress. I posted once that it was something I promised to complete. Since then, a lot has gone on and I haven't had a ton of time to work on it, so no recent updates. I had someone start leaving comments about how I'm a waste of space because I obviously lied about finishing the story. They were all annonymously left so I couldn't respond to the person and finally had to block annonymous comments. I have put up a notice on the story saying that it won't be posted there until it's fully complete whenever that is. In the mean time, I'm posting it on my site and told people on ff.net to PM me for a link. It's so stupid!
I also can't stand how ff.net edits e-mails and PMs to remove any links you send. Ugh!
I could go on and on. I will continue to post work on ff.net because it's a different audience (and I'm a feedback whore) but with my current story, it won't go up until it's fully complete.

luckily, i haven't encountered any scary ff.net people, and i hope i never have to. i'd hate to have to block anon reviews because i don't want people to not be able to tell me what they think. but still...it's stupid stuff like that that pisses me off.
what's your penname over there? i'll add you to my alert list for when it starts working again.
no subject
and i agree. if your going to tell someone that you think they're full of shit, at least put your penname on it. the internet is anonymous enough as it is.
is your profile still up there?

And some reviwer's are bitchy and have no sence that they, oh I don't know- might be wrong? Some writers bug me, but I'm not gonna comment jsut because I think they suck. There's something called a back button.
I like actually commenting on what my reviewers say. 'Specailly the ones who don't pay attention to the A.N. or the summaries. I also hate when n00bs put 'I really suck at summaries'...i'm not gonna read something that starts with that, becausemif you can't write a summary they're a pretty spiffy chance that you can't write at all. Granted sometimes I'll grit my teeth and bear it but...not so much.
and then sometimes I'll get weird and rant like I'm doing now, and everything makes sence and I get appologies and shameful looks.
I really do have some pretty scary reviewers.

Yeah, I hate that I have to have the annonymous comments blocked. I know there are people out there who aren't going to join just to keep up with my story. That's why I've decided to eventually post it all.
It's terrible, I complain about not getting feedback all the time (because I'm such a feedback whore.. lol!) but I suck at leaving to myself. My first New Year's resolution for 2007... if I read something, I'm going to leave feedback!!!!

kthanx.

if you're on my flist, i'll probably read it, but if not...chances are it might not make the cut. i like writing more, i guess.

but then again i never saw the point of summaries to begin with. i understand that you'd like to know what you're going to be reading, but to me, that's what the pairing and the warnings and the ratings are for.
to me, anyway.

starting your own account could be cool. it's up to you, though. if you like sharing your account, i'd stick to it, and have your cousin forward you all the emails for your fics or something.
Re: Your Answer
especially when the title feels really self explanatory.
Re: Your Answer
I used to use lines from the story i'd write.

Re: Your Answer
on my more introspective pieces though, like for Stuff of Legends (http://iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com/tag/stuff+of+legends) and stuff like that, i still use lines from the story. because that seems to say it better than anything else.

but i'm lazy and don't think i'm going to do it now. i'll add you to my alert list though.

Also... No one reads A/Ns. I've finally discovered this, after two years. I clearly explain everything in my A/Ns, and then people ask me questions. I ignore those people. They are clearly idiots.

Allie's problem is that you wrote to MUCH, she hasn't time to get involved in new universes. But, Allie *does* read your stand alones and rants ;-)
Plus, Allie is a slasher at heart. Can only take so much het *GG*
Happy new year!

I read through the other stuff, and said I'm not lumping my stuff with this.
I have one story, and when I feel like completing it, I will. Otherwise? Hellwith it.
Writing workshops are almost as freaking bad. If you have 5 constructive readers, that's as many as you need. Then put it out there and say "done."

otherwise, it's just pointless.

and that's quite understandable. i'm glad you like what you read anyway.

i had to do something.
