Castiel really did not have the best timing.

Eliot understood that Castiel wasn’t exactly versed in the ways of privacy and knocking—Jo had elaborated on that much—but there were certain things that Eliot still expected to be kept private. Time alone with Jo where their clothes were coming off? That was one of them. Thankfully, he didn’t see anything good, and as far as Eliot was concerned, he was never going to, but it was a little awkward to have an angel crash the afterglow.

“Hello.”

Both Eliot and Jo sat up ramrod straight in bed, Jo scrambling for the sheets to keep herself covered, while Eliot fixed Castiel with a glare. “What the hell, man? Didn’t you ever learn to knock?!”

Castiel just stared at him blankly. If it wasn’t for Jo’s hand on his arm, he probably would have punched the guy out. “Cas, what’s going on?” she sighed. “Everything okay?”

“Yes,” he replied, clearly not put off by their obvious state of undress. “I just wanted to let you know I have some answers for you.”

It had been nearly two months. Two months since Jo had come back, and they hadn’t heard one word from the angel since. Eliot had been doing his best to distract her, trying to keep her from dwelling on it too much, but even he knew that two months was too long to go without answers on something like this. He was starting to think that Castiel was never going to come back, until right about now. He didn’t know why the guy couldn’t have waited ten minutes.

“You know what happened?” Jo straightened a little more. “Why am I back?”

Castiel took a breath, let his shoulders drop slightly, before saying one word. “Dean.”

Dean?” Jo went from zero to pissed in about two seconds. “If that son of a bitch sold his soul again … ”

“Who’s Dean?” Eliot interjected, but no one seemed to hear him.

“No. He didn’t sell his soul. He did make a deal, however.”

“A deal. A deal with who?”

“Who’s Dean?” He still didn’t get an answer.

“With the Angel of Destiny.”

What?”

Even that was enough to make Eliot stop cold. He didn’t know much about the world she lived in, and he couldn’t say much for destiny, but there was something about the fact that there was an angel for it that made him stop and wonder what exactly this Dean guy was screwing with. His arm reached for Jo, but she pulled away from him, a clear sign to leave her alone.

“Dean changed my destiny?”

“I don’t know all of the details. You’ll have to ask him.”

Jo nodded slowly, before reaching for Eliot’s shirt off the floor, not even bothering to get dressed in her own clothes. She put the thermal on over a pair of her jeans, and left the room without a word. “Jo—” the angel began, but Eliot shook his head.

“Don’t. Just leave her alone.” He went to reach for his jeans, before turning back to Castiel. “This Dean guy—you know where he is?”

“He should be in Cicero, Indiana, through the end of the week. He’s … on vacation.”

“Great. Got an address?” Castiel rambled it off, and Eliot made note of it in his mind before pushing to his feet. “I’ll talk to her.” He didn’t leave right away, and Eliot just moved forward, placing a hand on his shoulder. “She just needs some time to process, alright? She’ll be okay.”

Castiel nodded after a moment. “She knows how to reach me if she needs me.” And after that he was gone.

Eliot took a breath, turning on his heal to make his way out to where Jo was pacing the living room, frustrated beyond belief. He didn’t even have to know her to see that. He just leaned in the doorway of the room, watching her and waiting for her to talk to him.

“That son of a bitch. That stupid, arrogant son of a bitch. Who the hell gives him the right to change my destiny?”

“I don’t know.”

“Swear to God, if I ever see him again, I’m gonna beat the shit out of him. He can’t just do that to people.”

“I know.” He straightened a bit, starting to move closer to her. “I know he can’t.” He moved his hands to her hips gently, getting her to look at him. “Who is he?”

She avoided his eyes for a moment, before shaking her head. “He’s an idiot.”

“Jo.”

She was quiet again, just trying to figure out if she could get him off the topic, before letting her eyes drop to the floor. “Dean … he was before you. Just never seemed to be the right time. Never was gonna happen between us, but when I was younger … he was somethin’ else.” She didn’t even pause to let that sink in, just pushed away from him to head across the room. “Anyway, he and his brother are idiots. Good hunters, but screwed up beyond belief, not that we all aren’t. They saved the world once upon a time, but the thing they’ll be remembered for is the fact that they know how to hold on to an impressive amount of guilt and do stupid things to alleviate that. Sam’s probably been dead for about three years now, but Dean—he’s still around and kicking somewhere.”

“Indiana,” Eliot replied, and she turned to look at him in surprise. “I asked, your friend told me.”

Jo was quiet for about a second, before straightening and heading towards the bedroom. “I need to borrow your car.”

Eliot sighed softly. “Sweetheart, you can’t take my car.”

“Don’t try and talk me out of this. I need to see him, and I’m not gonna call him up on the damn telephone.”

“Jo—”

“This isn’t something you do any other way than face-to-face.”

“Yeah, I agree.”

Jo spun around when he reached the doorway, and fixed him with a look. “So why can’t I have the car?”

“Because you’re dead,” he pointed out. “You have no license, you’re not on my insurance, and you have no ID.”

She stood there, quiet for a moment before sighing heavily. “Okay, you may have a point.”

He smirked at her, before moving closer and sliding his arms around her. She leaned into him, letting her head rest against his chest, and he pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “I’ll drive you out. We’re not workin’ a job right now, so I’ve got the time.”

“When we get there, you have to let me punch him.”

He laughed. “Sure thing. Hit him all you want.”

“Good.” She looked up at him, and brushed a kiss to his lips. “Thank you.”

“Anytime,” he murmured, just pulling her in closer. “Anytime.”
