Castiel - Children of Eden

Fandom: Supernatural/Buffyverse
Title: Children of Eden
Author: [livejournal.com profile] iluvroadrunner6
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Castiel, Faith Lehane, and a surprise guest star.
[livejournal.com profile] tamingthemuse Prompt: Methodical thinking
[livejournal.com profile] xoverland Prompt: 7. Angel (Supernatural)
Content Warning: Spoilers through the end of S5. AU.
Summary: No one pays attention to the man in the back of a church.
Author’s Note: … I’m not sure what this is yet, meaning I’m not sure whether I want to write it or find people to RP it yet, but this is set about a hundred years after 522: Swan Song, with the small switch of Michael riding Dean instead of Adam. This also has a bit of a supernatural take on the Buffyverse, less cheese, more grit. So let me know what you think?
Disclaimer: I don’t own. It belongs to Kripke. I’m just borrowing and will put everything back where I found it.

Children of Eden
Where have we left you?
Born to uncertainty
Destined for pain
Sins of your parents
Haunt you and test you
This your inheritance
Fire and rain

Children of Eden
Try not to blame us
We were just human, too error prone
Children of Eden, will you reclaim us?
You and your children to come
Someday you'll come home

In 2010, Sam Winchester saved the world.

He was an unlikely hero in a battle where no one survived. He held down the Devil, used the rings that he had managed to obtain from the horsemen, and proceeded to jump inside. When Michael, wearing his brother, Dean, tried to stop him, Sam accidentally pulled him in with him. Both Winchester brothers fell into Hell, the doors closed behind them, and the world never knew the sacrifices that they had made. The world just kept turning, people went on their way, and the world was unaffected. No one would remember, because no one had survived.

No one that anyone noticed, at least.

In 2110, the Winchesters had become nothing more than a legend. A whisper of a name among the hunter community. Sometimes people would read the gospels and laugh, some people would read them and become far more devoted than they should, and some … some simply didn’t know what to believe. They didn’t believe in God, and they didn’t believe in the Winchesters, they just—fought because it was the right thing to do. Those were the ones he liked the best.

Castiel was old now. So very old and tired, but he kept walking. He didn’t look nearly as old as he was, and he knew that that was probably a good thing. Six thousand years would look fairly taxing on a human body. Castiel wasn’t so much an angel anymore. He straddled the fine line between angel and human precariously, just enough to stay alive, but not enough to be useful, and more to the point, he didn’t want to be. He had found answers long ago, and was content to simply live among the humans, passing between the groups and be the man that no one paid attention to. No one ever paid attention to the man in the back of the church.

Except if the man in the back of the church is the one you’re looking for.

The congregation was a small one, so it’s easy to spot her when she walks in. Faith Lehane is a beautiful woman, and hard to miss in an ordinary circumstance, but it’s even more obvious in a smaller crowd. Faith is a Slayer, a new breed of hunter-demon hybrids that came about in the last fifty years or so. They’re meant to be forces of good, but on occasion they could be more trouble than they’re worth. Faith was different from the others, though. She reminded him of Sam, in her struggle for redemption in a world that wasn’t all that receptive, and he liked her. It was for that reason and that reason alone that he didn’t rebuff her when she made her proposition.

“So, tell me. You think you could figure out how to do it?”

Faith was also one of the few people who knew what he truly was. He looked over at her, one hand coming up to rub his eyes which ached with age and lack of sleep as he spoke. “They’re only human, Faith. I’m not sure how much help they’d be.”

“They’re the only shot we’ve got,” Faith sighed. “B thinks that this is gonna get end-of-the-world serious real quick. I may not like the girl, but she knows her big bads, and this seems like a big one. We need all the help we can get. Giles says this ritual should keep Lucifer and Michael in the cage while someone—an angel—reaches in and yanks the human souls out. So we need an angel. And you’re the only one I know—you’re the only one I trust.”

Castiel took a slow breath. Accepting this offer meant needing to have a conversation he wasn’t sure he wanted to have anymore. He had been tired and human for so long, going back on that almost seemed like … cheating. But he knew the risks and hand. “They’ve been in Hell, Faith. Each month in Hell is like ten years. I’m not even sure how human they are anymore.” He paused, but not long enough for her to respond. “But I will help. Just give me a few days to get some things in order. It is likely that this will explode in our faces.”

She laughed. “Thanks for the vote of confidence, Wings. I’ll pass it on to the rest of the Scooby Gang.”

One hundred years walking the Earth, and Castiel still had no idea what a Scooby was. Either way, he waited until Faith left, before making his way to the sacristy, passing through the old wooden door, and letting it close behind him. There was a short man in front of him, placing the robes of a priest back in the small closet there, before turning and looking at him.

“Hello, Castiel.”

Castiel took a deep breath, before nodding. “Hello, Chuck.” He still couldn’t bear to call him “father.” It hurt too much.

Chuck laced his fingers in front of him, giving the former angel a small smile. “I know what you’re here for. Are you sure this is what you want?”

When Castiel had received his answers, Chuck had promised to restore his grace for him, to return him to what he once was. At first, Castiel had refused, not wanting anything to do with the Father who had just sat by and watched as the world prepared to burn, but now he knew that he was not going to survive this ritual without it. He didn’t have a choice. “Yes. I am sure.”

Chuck nodded, placing a hand on his shoulder. Castiel closed his eyes, waiting for the power to surge through him, and wished that he didn’t feel like such a failure for doing so. He took his last breath, and reminded himself of why.

He was doing this for Faith. For his friend.

Castiel accepted his grace. A thousand miles away, the next prophet picked up their pen and started to write.

This is a good fusion of both verses. I really enjoyed it, and I'd love to see where it goes.

I'm still trying to figure that out. It may just have been a one off thing, or it may turn into something else.

I still haven't figured out what I'm doing with it yet. For right now, it's just ... there.

I'm thinking about it. I got ideas, I just have to figure out how to write them.
