Hannah Johnson and her twin brother Andrew were originally born in Brooklyn, and relocated to Manhattan after her parents divorced and her mother remarried the man who would later become her stepfather Martin Watson. This all happened before the twins turned seven, and even though they were fairly young when it happened, they still never really took to Martin the way her mother would have hoped. The custody battle for them, however, had been a brutal one, and while they still got to see their father on weekends, they weren’t exactly happy about it, or the fact that they had to live with their mother ninety percent of the time. They never lacked for anything, however. Martin did moderately well for himself, and was always happy to give his stepchildren whatever they wished, but it always seemed more as he was constantly trying to win their affection, rather than get them something because he wanted to get them something.

Hannah and her brother have a strange relationship. They make a point to insult each other every five minutes, and most of the time they can barely stand each other, but the fact that they would do anything for each other is a given. It doesn’t even have to be said, most of the time. Hannah’s boyfriend cheated on her in high school, and Hannah didn’t even have to tell him before Andy had gotten suspended for beating the guy’s ass in the parking lot of the high school. While they both do their own thing most of the time, they try to get together and see each other as much as they can to reconnect. They are twins, after all, albeit fraternal. They still have that bit of a link between them.

Hannah first met Lizzie Anderson when she and her family first moved into the apartment in Manhattan. While they didn’t exactly live on the same floor, the Anderson-Mullvaneys seemed to be the only other family with kids in the building, so Angela sought them out when she was looking for someone to baby-sit her children while she was at work. Hannah and Lizzie took to each other almost instantaneously, and while Andrew was significantly less interested in Lizzie than his sister was, they still get along rather well. With Hannah, however, she and Lizzie were practically attached at the hip, and managed to survive through high school, college, and their respective post-college schools of choice.

Hannah was always a brilliant student, and she did fairly well in her classes. She wasn’t that into sports and/or extracurriculars all that much, but she would attend if her friends took her. She participated in various activities over her high school and college years, each one never for long, but she tried to do the best she could to make her own mark. She attended St. John’s University for college on the pre-med track, before moving on to Johns Hopkins for med school, graduating three years later with a specialty in cardiology. She worked through her internship at Trinity General under Dr. Hilary McCallahan. She stayed on their through her residency, and is currently working on earning herself an attending position.

Hannah, for all her intelligence, doesn’t handle stress well, however, and tends to smoke when things get to be too much, a habit she picked up from her mother. It’s one of the things she fights about the most with both her brother and Lizzie, and she’s working on quitting, but for the moment it’s her one vice, aside from sex. She also happens to be a very big fan of the one night stand, and has had few serious boyfriends in her adult life, chalking it up to her life being too busy for her to manage a relationship. It doesn’t mean she doesn’t want one, however—she just can’t seem to find a way to make it work for her at this point in time.
