“What's crazier, saying ‘Tally Ho’ to a fox or saying ‘hello’ to a golf ball?” - Ed Norton

“We really should have gone to a Yankee game.”

He could see the smirk on her face without having to turn around. It was that knowing, defense attorney smirk that he hated which was why she wasn’t doing it to his face—not that that would stop her anyway. He just adjusted his grip on his club, before twisting back and sending the ball flying down the green. He watched go, before wincing slightly as it dropped to the wayside of where he wanted it to go.

“You’re not a bad golfer, Detective,” she said, the smirk still on her face. “Don’t see why you’re complaining.”

Flack raised an eyebrow at her, before shaking his head. “I’m on my feet all day, Counselor. I’d rather not spend my free time on my feet too.”

“If you wanted the golf cart, you should have just said so,” she said, and she moved to line up her shot. Flack stepped back to watch her, resting his club on the ground and his hands on top of it. She shifted so that she was standing alongside her ball, before glancing up at him briefly. “Besides, watching your team lose isn’t my idea of a good time.”

Flack paused for a minute, before nodding slowly. “You probably have a point there.”

“It is what I’m good at,” she said with a slight grin, before popping her ball off towards the hole. They both watched the ball coast away from them, and Flack sighed.

“If anything, we should have gone mini-golfing.”

Claire just laughed, before picking up her golf gear and starting to make her way down the green. “So how have you been, Flack?”

He shrugged. “Alright. Work’s been busy, but we’ve just closed a case, so I’ve been caught in a paperwork slump.”

“What’s the perp like?”

Flack glanced over and raised an eyebrow. “Looking for a client?”

“Should I be?”

“Heard about the ‘Cabbie Killer’?”

“—the guy who kept New Yorkers out of cabs for over a month?”

“That’s him.”

“Never mind—I defend him, I’ll never be able to take a city cab again.”

He chuckled, “All about priorities, isn’t it?”

“Very much so,” she grinned as they finally arrived at their balls. Flack moved to line up his shot again, adjusting his grip on his club slightly.

“So how long till you go back to Boston?”

“I got another couple days on this case, and then I head back up again,” she said with a nod. He took his next shot watching the ball shoot down towards the hole, and bounce off to the side.

“Maybe we could have dinner before you go?” he said with a shrug. “To either celebrate or curse the other guy—”

“What do you mean either or?”

“To celebrate, then,” he laughed.

“You sure about that? A homicide detective and an attorney having dinner together?”

“Eh, why not?” he said with a shrug. “Not like we have to face each other in court anytime soon.”

Claire went to line up her shot before nodding. “Sure, why not?” She took the shot watching the ball fly away, before turning back to him with a smile. “When I get back to the office, I’ll have a look at my schedule and let you know.”

“You do that,” Flack nodded with a grin, before picking up his clubs and starting to follow her again. Sure, this wasn’t the way he had pictured spending his afternoon, but it was still a good one nonetheless.
