One-a-Day: May 3rd

Mostly because I have a last paper to write and may not get the chance to post tomorrow. So I'm posting now! Besides, it's technically May 3rd for me anyway.

“So I was thinking,” Flack began as he made his way into the ballistics lab, heading towards where Calleigh was standing, cataloguing some of the evidence she had just processed from the current case. She tilting her head to the side for a moment to look at him, before turning back to the evidence.

“Is this a big change for you, or were you going to finish that sentence?” she asked with a smirk and he gave her a grin, before letting his hands rest on the table as he watched what she was doing.

“How do you feel about a road trip?”

“Road trip to where?” she asked, turning to look at him as she moved some of the evidence to another part of the room—probably to catalogue it somewhere, he wasn’t really sure. He didn’t really pay attention to the bullets when he was in the ballistics lab, which probably would wind up coming back to bite him on the ass eventually.

“Not far—just a quick trip across the Hudson,” he paused for a minute, playing with the pen in his hand before giving her a grin. “Interested?”

“Depends. Why are we crossing the Hudson to begin with?”

“Well, it’s the Fourth of July, and despite the fact that we have to do a bit of traveling, I happen to know the perfect vantage point.”

“Really?” she said, before walking over and resting her forearms on the other side of the table, giving him a playful smirk. “Why do I have a feeling it’s also happens to be a well worn make out post from when you were in high school?”

“I haven’t the slightest idea,” he said, doing his best to keep a straight face. “Clearly, Duquesne, you don’t know me very well at all.”

She rolled her eyes, before turning away and going back to what she was doing. “This is my first Fourth of July in the city, Don—I’d like to actually see the fireworks.”

“And you will. The spot I’ve got—it lines up right with where the barges anchor for the evening. Look straight up and you get nothing but sky.” He looked down at his hands for a minute. “Plus, I haven’t really had the chance to have you all to myself since you got here. I think we’re due for an evening where it’s just us—and I can guarantee that it’s going to be just us.”

She sighed heavily before walking over to him. “Promise me I’ll actually get to see the fireworks and you got a deal.”

“I will be the perfect gentleman,” he said with a grin.

“Road trip it is, then,” she said with a nod, before glancing at her watch. “I don’t get off for a few hours though.”

“That’s fine,” he said with a shrug. “I’m getting off now. I’ll get together what we need and I’ll meet you back here.”

“It’s a date,” she grinned.

“Are you sure that this is safe to walk on?” Calleigh frowned, watching from slightly farther up on the hill as Flack moved easily onto one of the ledges of Washington Rock. Flack turned back to her with a look, before extending his hand to her to help her down.

“Positive,” he sighed. “I’ve been coming here since I was a kid.”

“Doesn’t necessarily make me feel any better,” she said, giving him a look. “Don’t you know what happens to cliff formations over time.”

“Calleigh—don’t you trust me?”

“Yes—to an extent.”

He shook his head as she took his hand and started to make her way down. “Tell you what, we wind up in the Hudson, you get to pick the location for the next outdoor date.”

She smirked as she got close to him, sliding her arms around his waist when she got close enough. “If we don’t die from landing in the Hudson, that is.”

“It is pretty nasty down there, isn’t it?” he smirked, as he tilted his head slightly, looking over the ledge to the water below them.

“Just a little,” she replied, before shifting to sit on a spot on the rock. Flack followed in suit, before reaching for the cooler he had brought with him, and fishing out a drink for both of them, popping the tops on the bottles just as the first round of the rockets went off.

“Wow,” she said softly, taking the bottle from him as she followed the rocket’s trajectory up into the sky and watched as the colors exploded in front of them. “Alright—I will give you that this was a good vantage point.”

“Thank you,” he said with a grin. “That was all I asked.”

She grinned back at him, before settling in next to him and resting her head against his shoulder as she got closer. They stayed like that for a while, until the fireworks started to wind down, and she turned to him after a moment to give him a quick kiss.

“Haven’t gotten a chance to do that in a while,” she said with a smile as the arm around her shoulders tightened more.

“We should do that more often,” he murmured, before leaning in to kiss her again. She kissed him back, but when he started tilting them back so that he was on top.

“I thought that this wasn’t an excuse to get me alone and make out with me,” she said with a grin as she pulled back for a moment to catch her breath.

“Are you complaining?” he said with a smirk.

“No, not really—” she grinned. “But I would prefer if we weren’t doing it on this ledge.”

He looked up for a minute and then turned back to her. “SUV then?”

“SUV works for me.”
