A connecting principle,
Linked to the invisible
Almost imperceptible
Something inexpressible.
Science insusceptible
Logic so inflexible
Causally connectable
Yet nothing is invincible

“Know what it is yet?” Flack frowned, as he leaned over to get a better look at the test tube. Some colorless liquid had turned up at the crime scene, and Mac had given it to Lindsay to figure out what it was. Flack was beginning to come up with a pattern in that respect—all the unknown or unexplainable evidence went to Lindsay because she got a kick out of figuring out what it was. Sometimes too much of a kick, but Flack didn’t mind so much. As long as it meant that by the end of the day it got them somewhere, he wasn’t really one to care about how exactly it was relevant.

“Not yet,” she replied, before moving over to stand next to him. “The base is some kind of solvent, but the GCMS isn’t giving me a direct answer for what the compound is as a whole.”

“So you haven’t got a clue.”

“Not in the slightest,” she said with a smirk. “But whatever it was, the vic was drenched in it, so it’s relatively safe to assume that it has something to do with the murder.”

“So when you do figure out what this is—it’ll probably be worth it.”

“Probably.”

Flack rested his elbows on the counter, studying the liquid again for a minute. “But if we managed to narrow down a suspect, bring him in found the liquid on the guy, there’s a pretty good chance that he’s our guy?”

“Probably. But since we don’t know what it is or how it relates, it’s pretty circumstantial.”

“Meaning if we took it to the ADA, they wouldn’t be able to get anywhere.”

“Exactly,” she said with a smirk, before moving over to the other side of the table. “Is there a reason you’re so interested in getting this case closed, Flack?”

“Okay—remember how the room was loaded in DNA?”

“Hookers’ places of business tend to be that way, yes.”

“Well, me and Mac tracked down every guy that popped up, and they all have alibis for the evening. Plus—none of the goop. So—we’re figuring that whoever this guy’s gotta be, has to have both his DNA in the room, and that goop stuff, so the goop stuff is our biggest link to catching the guy.”

“Uh-huh.”

“Also, the sooner we nail down an idea of who the suspect could be, the sooner I get actually go home and see my apartment.”

“Why don’t you just go home at the end of your shift?”

“A city councilman and his two hookers died in the middle of a brothel. Between the media and the brass, I won’t be seeing the comfort of my own apartment until we have the guy behind bars.”

“And if you won’t, that means I definitely won’t.”

“Exactly.”

“So really, you want to find out what this is for the greater good of us all.”

“Occasionally, Monroe, I am capable of thinking of the greater good of others.”

“Especially when it involves a benefit for yourself,” she said with a smirk, before looking up at him and leaning over the table slightly. “Well—if you have any ideas, Flack, I’d be happy to hear them.”

He gave her a blank look for a second, before shaking his head. “I think I’m drawing a blank on this one.”

“So, if I have this right, you came down here to motivate me to try and figure out what this is faster—”

“Exactly.”

“—but really, you’re just distracting me, so now this is going to wind up taking longer than it was before you came in.”

He just smirked at that diverting his eyes from the goop to her with a grin. “Sorry—didn’t realize I was a distraction.”

Right.”

“I’ll just go run down some alibis.”

“Good idea. Thanks for the pep talk, Flack.”

“Anytime, Monroe.”

I'm glad you liked it.

I wish we could see this on the show.

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
You and me both. You think they would give them something, eventually. Grr -- makes me mad.

[identity profile] audaciousblonde.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. I love this story. I think they're personalities just mesh well together. The both are snarky and sharp with their comments. :D

The writers should take advantage of their chemistry. I would love to see Flack and Lindsay interact more. They are fun together. I almost thought that they'd take the opportunity to explore more with these two after Child's Play. They had such a fun time working that case.

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
They did! But -- nada. Instead they decide to have her cook up drama with Danny instead and make me sad because I'm losing more and more interest with Danny the further that saga goes on. It's kind of annoying.

I'm glad you liked it.

Awww...that was sweet-and you did a good job of capturing them, I can actually hear them having a conversation like that in my head!

LOL....but no smut??

[identity profile] iluvroadrunner6.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not really a smut person. It doesn't write so well for me -- I prefer little interaction moments.

But I'm glad you liked it.
