The highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive
Everybody's out on the run tonight but there's no place left to hide
Together Wendy we'll live with the sadness
I'll love you with all the madness in my soul
Someday girl I don't know when we're gonna get to that place
Where we really want to go and we'll walk in the sun
But till then tramps like us baby we were born to run

Calleigh blinked when she saw the man leaning against his car. She hadn’t expected him to be in Miami again so soon. It seemed like he hand barely left, yet here he was, back again, and she couldn’t say she was disappointed in seeing him. She walked over to him, crossing her arms across her chest as she went.

“Wasn’t expecting to be seeing you so soon,” she said with a smile.

“Yeah, well we were passing through, I figured I’d stop in, see if you wanted to—grab a beer or something.”

“Or something?” she asked, the smile thinning out to a smirk, and he laughed.

“Yeah, or something.”

“Well—you’re lucky. You just caught me on my way out.”

“I guess my timing’s pretty good, huh?”

“Guess so,” she grinned, “You gonna leave Sam out in the car all night, or are you going to let him go do his own thing?”

“Sam?” he frowned, shaking his head, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

She raised an eyebrow, before leaning over and looking at the tall man sitting in the passenger’s seat, “Hi, Sam.”

“Hey Calleigh,” he said with a sheepish smile, “How’s it going?”

“As I was saying—” she began, straightening up again, “—you gonna leave your poor brother out in the car all night, or are you going to give him the keys and let him do his own thing?”

Dean hesitated looking down at the keys in his hand, “Do I have to?” She gave him a look and he sighed, before turning to talk to his brother, “If there’s one dent in her, I swear to God—”

“C’mon, Dean,” she sighed, taking a hold of his arm and dragging him away from the car, “Let’s go. She’ll be in one piece when you get back.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that,” he said, letting her drag him away, “You haven’t seen him drive.”

***

Dean was watching her sleep through the shadows of her room, tracing a finger over the edge of her shoulder and down her arm. He loved being with her like this, but he wasn’t sure if he could ever settle down just for her. He was too used to moving around, and he would go stir crazy in a city like Miami. New Orleans, he could have stuck around, but here—it just wasn’t his kind of place. Especially if he couldn’t ogle and do other things to the scantily clad women. Lord only knew that Sam wouldn’t be taking advantage of the opportunities.

He wanted her to come with them. She wouldn’t be a liability to them, unlike most of the women he had dated. She could handle herself, unlike most of the women he wanted to see again. She knew exactly what was going on, and it wasn’t a bunch of smoke and mirrors, with Dean trying to keep up with all the lies he’s been telling to try and keep them in the dark. And she could handle what they were hunting too—after all, she had done it so many times before. He wanted to just take her away with him, and while he knew she’d never go for it—she was too comfortable where she was—he wanted to convince her that she was meant to do this, more than she was ever meant to be a cop.

Her arm slipped across his waist, and she looked up at him with a sleepy smile. He returned it, but after a minute she frowned slightly. “What’s on your mind?”

“Nothing,” he said, shaking his head, “Go back to sleep.”

“Liar,” she said, shifting so that she lying on her back more and he was resting more of his weight on top of her, “What are you thinking about?”

He shrugged, his fingers starting to trail over her skin again, “Just wondering if you ever thought about leaving.”

“Leaving?” she frowned.

“Leaving Miami,” he clarified, “Just hitting the road with me and Sam, and getting back into the hunt, and not really having a physical house.”

She mimicked his shrug, “Haven’t really thought about it. I’m pretty happy here, Dean.”

“Yeah, but I keep thinking that maybe you weren’t meant to do this,” he sighed, “You were a damn good hunter, Calleigh. I just don’t understand how you could give that all up.”

“Doing all that good you mean?” she replied, giving him a small smile.

“Yeah.”

“I’m doing good here too, Dean,” she sighed, “It might not be the same kind, but at least I don’t have to lie about the people I care about in order to keep them from locking me away.”

“So this is about getting credit?”

“No,” she sighed, shaking her head, “It’s about not having to hide what I’m doing.”

“I know,” he sighed, burying her head in her shoulder, “I know, I know, I know.”

“May not seem like it now,” she smirked, “But you’ll want to settle down one day.”

“God help me when I do,” he grinned, and she smacked him lightly on the shoulder.

“Your problem is more Miami, isn’t it?” she said softly, looking up at him.

“Yeah, I guess,” he shrugged, “It’s just not my kinda place.”

“We’ll get to the point where we don’t have to worry about everything that’s out there one day,” she said, pulling him into her again, “And when we do—I’ll go wherever you want. So long as we can pick a place and stay there.”

“I think I can live with that,” he grinned, and she pulled him in for a kiss and leaning back to let him tangle her in the sheets some more.

The idea of Dean settling down is interesting enough. But him doing it with Calleigh is such a good notion. Hope to see more of those two.

I missed writing these two. I'm glad you liked it.

I can see how everybody has a different opinion of Dean settling down (myself, I just don't see it's going to happen easily), but with Calleigh, there might be an interesting notion. Something new, and detective/CSI is kind of like hunting, but with humans, and trying to do better. I'm very interested... in either way. Loved it. ^_^

I have read all you Dean/Calleigh stories. I should have told you sooner how much I like they way you write these two together. I could believe Dean stopping for a woman like her. I look forward to the next installment
