She and Danny had fallen into a routine in the past few months and she hadn’t even realized it. They hadn’t wanted to, nor did they expect it to, it just happened. When it was disturbed by something like a call or working overtime, it didn’t rattle them or throw them, but the daily day-to-day workings were still there.

They both would get up, get dressed go to their respective workplaces whether it be him at the lab or her at the precinct. They’d work, maybe get together for lunch, go back to work, and come home whenever the boss let them go. Eat dinner, and then the rest of the evening was left to do with as they chose.

However, things didn’t usually work out so nicely, and one of them usually wound up pulling a double, or getting an early call, so most of the time they didn’t wind up getting the time together that they so desperately wanted. And tonight was one of those times.

Kaile made her way into the apartment as quietly as possible. It was nearly two AM, and even though she had tomorrow morning off, Danny probably didn’t and he was probably in there, asleep. She didn’t want to wake him up, so she just made her way into the kitchen to grab something quick to eat before turning in.

She grabbed a slice of cold pizza out of the fridge, and then made her way into the bedroom, hoping that Danny would be there, and not a note saying he was called in for another call, or he was working the grave shift again. He had been running on all cylinders lately, and she was worried about him. Working that hard wasn’t healthy, and even though there were times when she did the same herself, she was worried that he was going to run himself into the ground with all the shifts he’d been pulling lately. She smiled when she found him, sprawled out on the bed as if he had just walked in and collapsed on the bed. He hadn’t even taken his glasses off.

Tossing what was left of her pizza in the garbage can beside their bed, she gently reached forwards and pulled the frames off his face, placing them on the nightstand next to him. She then walked around, pulled the shoes off his feet, and patted him softly on the leg.

“Danny?” she whispered, and he responded with a grunt.

“Baby, you gotta move for a minute, alright,” she whispered, pulling on the top of the covers of the bed. He lifted his hips, and she pulled the sheets down, before pulling them back on top of him, tucking him into the bed. She then changed into something more comfortable before climbing into bed next to him. She felt his arm flop against her waist as he rolled over towards the source of the heat, and she smiled, curling up closer to him before drifting off to sleep.

She felt his lips in a brief kiss against the skin of her neck, and she groaned in protest, not wanting to wake up just yet.

“You have to get up?” he murmured in her ear, and she shook her head no against him, pulling him into her so that she had someone to curl up next to.

She heard him laugh before wrapping his arms around her, “Me neither.”

Now she was awake.

“You mean we both have off?” she said looking up at him, “At the same time?”

“Yup,” he nodded, and she grinned, before he leaned in and kissed her gently. “So what do you wanna do?”

“Sleep,” she replied almost automatically, and he laughed.

“Yeah,” he said as they both settled in so that they were more comfortable, “Me too.”
