Grissom/Sofia - Gone

...first of all...their ship's name is gofia? *shrugs* anways...

Title: Gone
Author: Me!
Rating: PG
Summary: This came about when I was lying in bed thinking, ‘how the hell am I going to do this?’ and I remembered a conversation Grissom and Warrick had, way back when, saying how he was just going to leave, and that would be the end of it, and the light bulb over my head went off. So here it is.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.

He was just gone.

No note, nothing verbal, no sign. Just gone.

He didn’t even clean out his office. Well, no, that’s not true. He did take his bugs. Things of value. But otherwise, his office looked completely undisturbed. He had even gone so far as to leave the bag of pretzels he’d been eating propped up against the books on his desk.

That son of a bitch.

She cursed him silently as she walked through the office, studying things he’d left behind. Things he had touched, held. She had always though there was something there between them. She was almost waiting on baited breath for the moment he would actually do something about it. But she should have known better. Leopards don’t change their spots, not even if they’re in love. Or could be.

She spotted his desk chair that he had sat in for so many years. It had practically conformed to his body, it was so used to being in the same position. She quickly glanced around so that no one saw her, before settling herself into the chair. She could feel the differences in the way her body settled into it and the difference in the way his did. She leaned back against the soft leather of the chair and absorbed the way it smelled, and the way it felt, and how it just cradled her in the way she had always been wishing that he would and—

Sofia cut herself off. She had never considered herself to be romantic, or sappy in any way. But something about this man, this unemotional, this logical, scientifically minded thinker had her wanted to write poetry and cry herself to sleep. She wanted romance and passion and to be swept off her feet by a man who had only offered her nothing more than a few glances that made her question. Made her wonder. Made her imagine—

She looked up at the sound of the footsteps standing in the doorway. She was surprised when she saw who it was. She thought for sure that if Grissom was going to take off, he would have taken Sara with him. Whatever was between them was somewhat legendary in the labs, and Sofia always figured that they were together. That Sara had Grissom in a way that Sofia could only dream about.

For a second, blond studied brunette without even speaking. They just studied each other, wondering what the other had that she didn’t, to get this attention, this affection, these looks from the man they both could only dream about.

“I figured you’d be here,” Sara sighed, moving to sit in the seat across from her co-worker. She tilted her head slightly at the look on Sofia’s face, “You look surprised to see me.”

“I would have figured he would have taken you with him,” Sofia admitted, “Since you two are—”

“Together?” Sara rolled her eyes, “That’s what I seemed to get from everyone today. Grissom—what Grissom and I had was a long time ago. It was in another place. Not here in Vegas.”

“I see.”

“Actually I was kind of expecting it to be the other way around,” Sara continued, starting to play with her fingers, “I was expecting you to be gone.”

“Really?” Sofia looked up, surprised, “Why would you think that?”

Sara gave her a look that clearly said I can’t believe you’re asking me this. “You honestly are trying to tell me that you haven’t seen the way he looks at you?”

“Honestly,” Sofia hesitated before answering, “I thought he was messing with me.”

“Contrary to popular belief, Sofia,” Sara sighed, “Grissom has feelings too. It’s just everyone else’s that he can’t seem to recognize.”

Sofia nodded slowly, knowing that her friend’s words were all to true. And now he was gone. Never having to see either of them again. Never having to invade the thoughts of either one of them again.

No matter how much they wanted him to.

Sofia’s eyes drifted away from the woman across from her to the room around her, and her eyes, once again, settled on the bag of pretzels in front of her. A soft smile played on her lips, and Sara gave her a confused look.

“What?” she asked.

“Pretzel?” Sofia offered, turning the bag toward her friend.

THE END

it's not as angsty as i would have liked. but then again, for me, angsty is killing a character...so i'm somewhat glad this isn't as angsty as i would have liked. if that made any sense.
